Today seems to have been a day and a half and although it is only half past nine I am well ready for bed. My carer has her day off on a Tuesday so I take care of myself and it shows. Waking up late and so getting up late, getting my own breakfast, washing and dressing myself, making my own bed, dealing with my commode, tidying round, washing up and running the duster round - jobs which J, my carer, does in an hour each morning- take me all morning and thus make me running late all day. I had no callers today until tea time when my neighbour came round with the local paper which she passes on to me each week.
I was hoping my gardener would call in today to mow my lawn as I have a magnificent crop of dandelions, but he hasn't been and I try not to chivvy him as he is very busy so I leave it to him. My taxi driver the other day says that if he sprayed them with a weed killer called 'round up' it would kill them without killing the surrounding grass so I shall discuss it with him when he comes.
I managed my five laps of the patio again today but with difficulty so I didn't add the walk round the block - I don't wish to overdo it. Now I feel very tired so I shall sign off. Until tomorrow dear friends......

You have had plenty of exercise today with doing all those chores yourself as well as walking. Don't kill the dandelions just yet. They are a valuable source of nectar for bees until everything else starts to flower.

I advise against Roundup. It is toxic to weeds, animals and humans. It is claimed some ingredients cause cancer and the company has been found liable in several law suits. I leave my dandelions alone and enjoy knowing they are feeding the bees.
Round up is a broad leaf weed killer. It will not kill your lawn if properly applied. Personally, I would never use it for the sake of the bees.

Dandelions are the first food available for bees in Spring, and therefore very important, please leave them while flowering. I´ve read you for years, with much pleasure, but this is the first time I´ve commented! Hope you don´t mind.

I advise against using Roundup, as well! It not only poisons plants, it also poisons people! Please do not use it! Find a safe weed killer after the bees have feasted on your dandelions!
Many, many people have stopped using Roundup because as it kills weeds,there seems to be enough evidence that it can cause serious cancers in humans that there are now many lawsuits being filed against the manufacturer due to suspected health dangers. I wouldn't use it or even allow someone else to put it in my yard.
Please don't use Roundup. It's very toxic to wildlife, even when applied carefully to reduce toxicity to people. Celie
Roundup is so poisonous to humans, animals and plants that many states in the US have banned it. Please don't use it. Save the dandelions for the bees.
Ah, you've reminded me of what our older son said to my mother when he was 3 years old. He'd just learned the meaning of the word "rich" and said, "Look, Grandma, we're rich in dandelions!" Our of the mouths of babes!!
I agree with the worries about using Round-Up. We no longer use it and haven't for years.

There's always something to worry about. Be very cautious with round up. I believe it kills everything.
I do not like dandelions…weeds…allergies…there are safe sprays…or he can dig up the roots…
Please don't use Roundup.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the others about Roundup. It is dangerous for humans and pets. There are other weed killers you can get that are safer to use. Take care and don't overdo!

Although I don't know anything about gardening and stuff like Roundup, I would leave the dandelions for bees and other insects, too. Besides, they look pretty with their yellow heads, don't they!
No wonder you were tired last night after all you've done during the day.

Another vote for glorious yellow dandelions raising their sunny faces to greet the bees and hover flies.
And a big NO to all herbicides (esp RoundUp which I thought had been banned and if not why not)and all pesticides too. The government's backing down re Neonicotinoids is appalling, particularly as the crop in question is sugar beet. Sugar! One thing we already consume too much of.

My garden is awash with golden yellow dandelions and the buzz of bumble bees. When they go to spherical seed they look like light bulbs when backlit by the setting sun and then the goldfinches arrive to feed on the seed. Nature at her perfect best and all for no work or money. I add dandelion and sorrel leaves to salads and stir fries too. Sarah
I won't tell you what I think about Roundup, Weave, but I will say that I always feel sorry for the bees when I cut the dandelions around my workshop! Hope you had a nice snooze.

I was going to mention dandelions for the bees but I see it's got a few mentions already ! How wonderful to do your five laps - it sounds as though you're getting fitter all the time !
Here in my area (east coast US) round up is banned in many places because of links to cancer in humans - perhaps the formulation is different there, but I wouldn't chance it.

Please consider leaving the dandelions for another week; they are so necessary for the bees.
Our councils here in Yorkshire are delaying the first mow of the year for this reason and the city is awash in yellow!
Well dear blog friends you will all be pleased to hear that my gardener came today and he said - as most of you did - an absolute NO to Roundup anywhere near my garden and leave as manyas possible for the bees.

Agree with all about the dandelions for the bees but if you need to get any weed killed,just put on white vinegar. I use white vinegar when i need to get the hard water deposits out of my kettle- so after it boils and cleans the kettle , i take it out and put it on the weeds and they are the only ones to die.
