Too tired to post

I don't really know why I was tired but I read all your posts and then it was time for my son and his wife to come round.   We had decided to have a Pizza evening and I have to say the pizzas and the company were both very enjoyable.   But when they had gone I was just too tired to put on a post.

So here we are on Easter Day wishing you all  a Happy Easter.   It has been a pleasant day here weather wise but not all that warm.   I had a short walk this morning and just now, after my tea I decided to walk my patio five times.   It is flat and in the evening it is sunny.   I am going to try and keep it up all week if I can in addition to my short daily walk.   My friend and neighbour H, both the same age, have decided we have got to work at our core strength in order to get any better.   So see how it goes.

As a child, living in a staunch Methodist village, the tradition was that all the little girls had a new dress for Easter day.  I don't know whether it is still the case now.   But on Thursday morning I sat thinking about the past and I suddenly decided I needed something new to wear.   No I can't justify it.   No I do not need any new clothes.   I have several 'tops' which I have not worn yet.   But I wanted to cheer myself up.   So I searched the internet and finally found a 'sweater' called 'Patchwork' which was nice and colourful and I actually found that it was stocked by the ladies outfitters in our little town and they had it in my size.   It is now sitting there, paid for, in a bag with my name on it - my Easter present to myself.  All I have to do is find somebody to collect it for me.

Easter Monday tomorrow and then it will be back to normal - I rather think our schools here may start back to school on Tuesday.   Enjoy the sun while we have it.   And see you all again tomorrow.

Well done, Pat! You certainly have no need to justify buying yourself something nice. Every now and then, a bit of retail therapy can work wonders! And if you support a local business at the same time, even better!
A pizza evening sounds nice, and I like the idea of you using your patio for exercise.
Happy Easter!

Good for you, treating yourself at Easter. I remember having a new dress at Easter time and then going to the church services in it. One memory that sticks in my mind is when I had been bought a new 2-piece costume (it was a small yellow and brown check skirt with matching jacket) plus new white sandals and socks. My 2 cousins, Jim and Dennis, who lived a few doors away from me, had been designated to see me safely to the church and back. On the walk home they decided we'd go across the golf course. There was a stream with high, sandy banks . . . The boys ran and jumped across and I ran and jumped - into the stream!

It would be good if we could see a photo of you in your new sweater.

Happy Easter!I like the idea of your new sweater.
Yes, here in the United States we all had to have new dresses, shoes and a hat for church on Easter Sunday.

How nice to have that new sweater waiting for you. As a child we had new Easter outfits each year. Not sure about after being a teen. We did still wear hats and gloves to church (in the 50s).

I love the sound of your new sweater and hope it wont be too long before you can wear it. It has been a lovely day here today but yesterday was even better. I think there will be a change on the way but we enjoyed it while we had it.
Well done on adding a little extra to your daily walk, and to your two neighbours also. I keep forgetting my extra exercise and must make more effort.

You know me Pat i buy craft supplies to cheer myself up..! lol So glad to hear you feel up to working on your walking! You could probably do some core strengthening exercises without even getting out of bed.. Or do some of the moves you do throughout the day but do several.. Like getting out of a chair.. then sit back down and do it again.. etc.. Stand on one foot and try to balance with your walker handy incase you need it.. Lots of little things are possible Pat to make your life easier in the long run.. So glad to hear your having nice weather.. We need rain desperately... Hugs! Debs

It seems that a new outfit at Easter was a widespread custom.

Yup, a new 'costume' for me at Easter as well. Until I was well into my teens I had to go to church three times on a Sunday - every week, but at Easter there was the extra Stations of the Cross service on Good Friday, which seemed to take about three hours. I learnt to sit quietly for very long periods at a very young age!!

I had a wonderful picture of my kids all dressed up in their Easter finery. Well. Except for the youngest who stood there in her beautiful outfit with a horrible scowl because she didn't want to put on her hat.

Happy Easter Pat. No need to tell you to keep warm on those walks. The new sweater will help. The young people these days take the lead in looking their best for exercise, so you're up there with the trend-setters. It will be Nike for you patio wear next! Keep well. - Pam.x

Such an upbeat positive post. :)
I am a firm believer in walking and it's health benefits. Even a short walk like the ones that you take are good for physical and mental health.
Pizza is my absolutely favorite food. It's even better when eaten with friends or family.

I'm afraid I can't get excited about Easter. My wife bought me a chocolate bunny, and I roasted a leg of Lamb; that's it.

I am thrilled that you bought a Easter present for yourself! I hope it is collected soon.

Happy Easter! When I was a child, the women and the children got new clothes for Easter and they all wore it for church. I don´t remember about the men, maybe it was a new shirt and tie. I remember that I always was ashamed of my shoes because we had to walk a mud road and no matter how carefully I walked, my shoes were always dirty.

Don't mean to sound curmudgeon, or even resentful at this age but I never felt our poverty more acutely than at Easter when the rest of the congregation seemed to be decked out in new Easter finery. Some even flaunted. I was glad when Easter Sunday service ended.

Nothing new in our house for Easter. First I have ever heard of it. We were always busy on the farm so it was a weekend just like any other. I still can't get excited about it and buying new clothes unless one needs them is dyed in the wool for me.

How wonderful that you bought an Easter present for yourself! It sounds like a lovely sweater. When I was a child I always got a new outfit to wear to church on Easter Sunday. In those days it included a hat and white gloves. The styles in the 1950s were so different than today but I liked them. Happy Easter a little late Pat!

A late Happy Easter Pat. Patchwork jumper sounds just the right thing.

Glad you enjoyed your Easter weekend. I remember dressing up for Easter when we were young. My sister often got my Hand-me-downs so she would have my Easter outfit a year or two after me! One of the perks of being the older sister, I got the new outfits first! :)

It sounds like your Easter was just right!

Your Easter sounds enjoyable. I also remember getting dressed up for Easter and going to church. Everyone was outfitted for Easter Sunday and really looked lovely. Easter hats were required and some women wore gloves. All this formality has disappeared.

How interesting that so many of you remember the thing about new clothes for Easter - it must have been widespread. Thanks for the response.

We used to get a new outfit for Whitsun and wear it for the Whitsun walks through the town, afterwards we would visit both our grannies ... easy for us as we lived with one of them ... and they would each give us a sixpence. We thought it the best ever tradition.
