Change

Well after a few days of my new regime I was quite hopeful that there was a slight improvement in my mobility.   That hope has gone today.   There is a strong wind blowing from the East and it is very cold in the wind although the sun is shining.   Although I have walked round the block I can't say I enjoyed  it and I found it quite a struggle to get back home.   I am not going to attempt my laps of the patio after tea - best to leave it at that and hope for the wind to die down a bit tomorrow.

My very dear friend from childhood - six months older than me and with very bad cellulitis- has just rung and we had ten minutes comparing aches and pains and agreeing that old age is not particularly fun.   I can't say that that has cheered me up so I have come on line to say hello and of course I am more cheerful already - how 'you lot' do cheer me up every day.   Do keep it up - and thank you all most sincerely.

I met a lovely Lakeland Terrier on my walk round.  I thought it was a Welsh Terrier (like John's Mary) but no - there is a slight difference in height I believe.   I also met two Cockapoos - black and full of life.   They were not very old.   I don't really think I approve of all these Labradoodles, Cockapoos and the like, but the deed is done now and they are usually very friendly dogs.

Sitting here looking out on to my very  pretty back garden with its tulips in red and yellow I am still waiting for an allium.    Last year I had fifty or so - this year none so far.   I am beginning to wonder if the mice have got them all.    Has anybody out there got alliums and if so have they put in an appearance yet please?

I shall go and make myself tomatoes on toast for my tea - I just fancy them.   Pop a handful of cherry tomatoes and sugar in a pan and gently warm them while toast does in the toaster.   Once the tomatoes become 'sloppy' butter the toast and pour over the tomatoes and eat while piping hot.   Yum!

See you tomorrow.

It has been exceedingly windy here too today. Bright sunshine but a cool feel to that brisk northeasterly.
I bought a tray of Bizzy Lizzies today on impulse and have planted them out in patio pots. Hoping they brighten the day each time I open the front door,

They used to be called mongrels. I don't think you need worry about all this walking lark too much every day. A positive frame of mind takes you far enough on a couple of days if you can't do it.

I love tomatoes on toast. I’ve planted a cherry tomato in a bag of soil because my garden soil is infected with tomato blight, and I’m looking forward to my little treats when I inspect it each day.
Gardening is such a joy. I wish we could see some of your flowers,

You are wise to listen to your body and not do your patio walk if you don't feel up to it. I think your mobility is improving but you just had a strong wind to deal with today. A wind like that can make your walk understandably more difficult.

I always enjoy hearing about the friendly dogs you meet on your walks. I'm sure your attention brightens their day just as much as they brighten yours!

Lived next door to a Labradoodle for 6 years. It was a very, very needy child having been bought by the owners as a child-substitute until they had two of their own. They never took it out anywhere with them so they would go for a nice day out and we had to put up with a howling and barking dog for hours at a time. They thought it highly amusing and refused to believe us when the neighbours the other side denied ever having heard it bark at all. We moved.

I planted a new bed of alliums back in September of several varieties designed to flower from now through to the autumn. Two varieties are white, one is red and one is blue, all from the Sarah Raven catalogue. All of them are well up and the first are in flower. Alliums I planted the year before are also up.
At Sissinghurst today all of their alliums were up and starting to flower. While there I also saw in flower, two daffodils that I loved and will order - "Pipit" and "Thalia"

Just do what you feel up to each day.I think if it is windy it is too risky.
Thinking about tomatoes!I put two slices of tomato on damp compost and I now have soooo many seedlings.Plants for free.

Derek - the trouble is I can't reach that part of the garden and I remember last year that I thought none were coming and suddenly they were out. So I live in hope.

Thank you Bonnie - that is a nice thought.

Thank you for the words of comfort Rachel.

All of you are doing your best to cheer me up = and succeeding - thank you!

You're welcome Weave, you keep me going too.

I read a number of blogs including yours and John on going gently and I find they cheer and inform me daily. I’ve not taken to commenting before but it is high time I said a huge thank you to you.

A friend had no tulips this year because the wetter than usual winter rotted the planted bulbs.
How fun to meet neighborhood pups on your walks! Like Rachel said, mixed breed dogs used to be called mongrels. They also were not as costly as purebred dogs. Now some cost far more.
We have a poodle and she has some dog friends who are doodles. Interesting to see how the doodles often have more lab or golden behavior than poodle.
Thanks for the tomatos on toast idea for lunch!

Better to be safe and not walk too much on a very windy day, there will be other days when the weather is more favourable. I love the sight of yellow and red tulips in the gardens right now, they really brighten up the day.

A favourite of mine tomatoes on toast, either lightly fried or boiled and then squigged on toast! It is cold that wind, so you are wise to stay in and don't worry about the exercise just do it when the weather is better.

We have a warm, breezy day here in Virginia but the pollen count is too high to make it pleasant outside.
You are a ray of sunshine, Pat!

Hugs!

The wind today was a nasty one - much colder out than it looked through the window.

A very chilly wind here too, but I'm sure we can look forward to warmer days before long.
I have never tried tomatoes on toast. It sounds delicious and I'll certainly make it soon.
Perhaps tomorrow will allow you a more pleasant walk and maybe a few laps of the patio.

Hello Weave..I read your blog daily but rarely comment (I guess young folks might call me a lurker) LOL! Anyway, I loved reading your recipe today for tomatoes on toast!! I live in the US and had never heard of this before...now I've just got to try it because I so love tomatoes! We are coming into spring here in Illinois and come summer we will have some lovely tomatoes to eat...on toast, for sure!! I'm already picturing this with a lovely lettuce, vegie salad on the side! *did I say I love to cook and try new recipes?
I really enjoy your blog! Wishing you a lovely weekend over there!

Gusty cool wind is not conducive to a pleasant walk. Soon there will be warm sunny perfect days for your stroll. Your tomato sandwich recipe sounds delicious. All my Alliums disappeared and I suspect the mice ate the bulbs. Mice destroyed my tulips as well. My garden is very trial and error. The deer destroy certain plants as well. I try to grow what will survive long term.

I like your tomato recipe. I'm going to try it. I like toasted cheese whiz and tomato!

Love your blog.

Your tomatoes on toast will be in my tummy very soon. Sound delicious.
I am with you on the poos and doodles. They were originally bred for assistance dogs for those with allergies and that was a fine idea. Now they are bought by people who don't want a dog that sheds. That's what a broom is for. Or get a cat.
You are improving. It's obvious from your blog but might not seem so to you.

I have some cherry tomatoes. They will meet toast in the morning. Your blog is always a day brightener for me. You always have such a positive outlook, no matter what might befall you. Believe me, when I think I have problems, thinking of you helps
diminish them. Thank you so much for being such a faithful poster. We have had several days of very high winds. In Texas, we have such a brief time for yardwork before the heat hits, but the wind is making it impossible to plant. Of course the weeds keep growing, though!

I have always been a person to stay out of windy weather - it unsettles me, so it was incredibly fascinating to listen to a radio program, the ABC Art Show here, by Daniel Browning on the 6th April when he interviewed an Iranian/Australian artist Hoda Afshar about her exhibition and book 'Speak the Wind', all happening at the Monash Gallery of Art til the end of June. She has researched- belief systems held about the wind by her homeland off the southern coast of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. Perhaps I'll listen to it again eating tomatoes on toast this time! Hoping for nicer weather for you Pat ...from Pam.

I will certainly try tomatoes on toast. Usually I buy a sourdough bread which is not so good for toasting, but I think I will get what is called a "white bread" here tomorrow.

Your comment about cockapoos etc, made me start thinking that in fact my " pedigree" schnauzer was originally bred in mid 1800s from several other dog types. (One site says german poodle and wire haired pinscher). Considering that they all started as wolves, all pedigrees are a mix of different types, however far back they might go!
Wishing you a pleasant Sunday. Sunshine here in the SE !

I'm always impressed by your positive attitude and good sense ... and it's good sense NOT to walk if you're too tired or the wind is strong. I haven't commented for weeks, as my new computer decided it wouldn't let me! Today, for no reason I can discern, it is cooperating. Give me a dip pen and I can cope (without blots) but if a computer can go wrong on me, it will!

What concerns me most about the Cavoodle/Schnauzipoo/ etc is that they've cost heaps, and may well have come from puppy farms, when for virtually nothing they could have rescued a dog in need of a home. Over here people were paying thousands of dollars during Lockdown for a companion pup/

Re the alliums, mine are only just starting to appear in SW London - so don't give up hope yet.

I always find your blog interesting; please keep sharing your news with us.

Glad you got out for your earlier walk and got back home safely. We have rain today but I will have a visit from my daughter so that will brighten my day.
Sleep well!

Virginia - I am inclined to agree with you in the dip pen versus computer argument - but if you read today;s post which I shall put on in a minute you will agree I'm sure that we can't stand in the middle of the road to halt progress! Hilde - the thicker the better for toast. Add a bit of sugar to the tomatoes.
What delightful and helpful comments you have all made. So much food for thought. Thank you all. Doggie comments are certainly making a good point.
