Red Letter all last week

Well blog friends it is weeks since I managed to walk all the way round my old walk - not since before the bad weather.    And in view of the fact that in another eight months I shall be ninety I had begun to think that that was the end of my serious walking. But after going just 'round the block' all last week, when I looked out this morning and saw it had stopped raining and I felt reasonably strong - and there seemed to be only a light breeze, I decided that when I got to the bottom of the drive I would review the situation.

I did just that, took the bull by the horns and yes, I managed, slowly but surely, to walk all the way round my old walk.  I arrived home after three quarters of an hour satisfied and tired that I can still do it.   Now I must begin to build up my walking strength again by not missing days but by keeping going.

After an extremely wet afternoon and night last night - and still raining when I awoke this morning - it is now bright blue sky, sharp cool breeze and a mass of crocus everywhere you look.   If only we could do something to stop the suffering in Ukraine then we could take such joy in the arrival of Spring.  Why does possession of someone else's land become so very important at the expense - so far - of thousands of lives whatever the nationality they are ?   A life is a life - every soldier is somebodyy's son, every child is an innocent who knows nothing of any of it.   For God's sake let somebody see sense.

Well done in taking advantage of the good weather and gentle breeze to walk the distance you walked before the winter set in!

Amen to your last sentence, dear Pat.

Hugs!

So pleased to hear you have managed your walk around the block - I bet you are tired now though!
There is only one person who can call a halt to all this bloodshed now and stop any escalation and further bloodshed but I do not think he has any intention of doing so.
Spring as always will arrive despite what is happening in the world at least we can hang on to the fact that nature never lets us down.

Well, that was certainly a good long walk. You must be pleased, although tired.

Hooray to you for making it around the block. A 45 min walk is impressive for anyone but at almost 90, and needing a walker for support, it is a monumental achievement. You deserve to put your feet up.
I keep thinking this invasion would end if enough Russian citizens turned on Putin. Too many, it seems, still believe the lies they are being fed by Russian news sources. I watched an interview of a Russian woman living in the Ukraine who was fleeing the bombing. She said she phoned her parents, who live in Russia, to tell them what was happening around her. They simply refused to believe Putin would do what she was claiming. It's unfathomable to me that they chose to believe Putin over their own daughter who was terrified on the other end of the phone.

Not enough attention was paid to Russia and Putin's intentions in and around 2013 and 2014 and no intervention was shown at the time of the Crimea invasion and no noise was made from any of us, or very little. Along with everybody else I hope it can soon be over. I am glad you have made your walk around the block again and strengthened your legs.

Well done on the walking, I know how hard it is after just a few days of staying indoors. So just a bit now each day, spring is certainly on the way and the weather improving, so enjoy that fresh air and keep your legs going.. I'm trying to do the same.

Sounds like you walked a lot further than I did today, Weave. Have a watch of those Stanley Tucci programs on iPlayer tonight!

Hurrah for you! It's the keeping at it that makes the difference and with spring surely on the way you will have fair weather for the most part to make your daily walks a reality.

Your return to major walks is wonderful in every way, physical and psychological and you are a great woman to emulate as I age, I am a senior too. I pray for a peaceful end to this invasion of Ukraine.

Hope you are feeling the mental and physical benefits of your exercise, keep it up. The news from Ukraine just gets worse, the destruction is obscene and we all feel so helpless and I admit scared. Surely it cannot be allowed to go on for years as has been suggested, please let it end soon and the world rally round to help those poor people recover.

Well done on your walk.

How on earth will a whole country be rebuilt after this awful tragedy is over?

Well done! 45 minutes is a long time and I'm sure it took a lot of effort. I also have instigated a daily walk. I am trying to recover from a heart incident from a year ago. The doctors are still not sure what is going on or how to treat it. They have given me the standard drugs without really knowing what needs addressing because they can think of nothing else. Meanwhile at every single interaction they tell me to build up my stamina! As I was gardening a quarter acre plot, swimming two or three times a week and walking my dogs every day before this hit I am rather offended that they should think this is somehow a case of letting my stamina decline! Just to get them to shut up I walk every day, down and then up the hill because I live at the top. I am documenting the effects so I guess we will see if they are right or not. Nothing much improving after one month. sorry to go on, I have to get it out somewhere.

Congratulations on your walk today. I like to go out as early as possible or I'd get too cosy indoors and not want to go at all.
Looking forward to getting some good news when picking up a newspaper or on TV.

Well done with your walk. That's brilliant. Keep up the good work.

Continuing to do your walk is an excellent achievement. Your health and wellness will benefit. May the attacks on Ukraine stop soon. Clearly, P was left unchecked for to many years and today Ukraine is his target as the world watches.

Glad to hear that you took the bull by the horns, Weaver!

Yes to what you wrote, "For God's sake let somebody see sense." It is occurring to me that you were a child during World War II and that you have seen a lifetime of wars. I was born in 1949. There has always been a war as long as I have been alive, each one bringing sorrow to so many. The sorrow of war endures. It is not easy to keep one's balance. We do what we can to tilt the balance toward peace. No action too small.

Glad you are back walking Pat and the weather can only get better. As for that other terrible tragedy that is happening, we can only wait and hope for better times for Ukraine.

I'm so glad you managed it, you are most likely tired today but what an accomplishment. The sunshine really helps push us to enjoy it doesn't it, a glimmer of brightness in a currently very sad and scary world.

You certainly are amazing how you make up your mind to get out there and walk despite some drawbacks and difficulties dear Pat. You put me to shame, although since Bob's recent scare and overnight hospital stay, we are doing better with walking and eating low-sodium big time!
My heart breaks a little more each day when catching up on the news from Ukraine. Today we heard of the attack - and many deaths - on a training center very close to the Polish border where Americans were actually assisting in training Ukranian military just a few weeks prior to Russia's invasion! Also today an American journalist was shot and killed.
It just gets worse by the day, so very, very sad.
