Today was our Strugglers Meeting, where a group of us meet to discuss various topics which we are interested in or which we feel need airing. We meet for a relaxed hour and a half and I always come away feeling that things are not so bad really.
Then it was a short trip along the road to our local
TOSH - the meeting place for many of our U3A groups and also various other groups within the town - Probus, Tai chi, Keep fit, a weekly film. We really are a lively little town with so much going on. We are very lucky.
Every other Tuesday the volunteers do a two course lunch to which anyone may go. It is very reasonably priced and as we all sit round one large table it is an opportunity to chat to others who turn up. Today there were about ten of us and the menu was chicken and bacon casserole with curly kale, followed by apple tart and custard. Very tasty and it passed a pleasant hour and half hour.
This was followed by quite a long walk (for me) with Tess in bright sunshine on this, the first day of Spring (the equinox is today) and now it is time for tea.

A good day. I too have had a good day. Sunshine too!
I am also lucky to live in a small market town(10,000 Popn) near to beautiful countryside both coast and mountains. We have a very active U3A.700 members and over 70 interest groups. We are lucky also to have a very active theatre. There are always two plays being performed and a film plus other events.I think myself very lucky to live here in a very "sheltered" part of the UK but we do get a lot of snow!!!!
It sounds like a lovely day, and yes it is gloriously sunny here too, just a faint trace of snow left on the hills opposite.
You never cease to inspire the rest of us Pat, long may it last.
Here on Sheppey it has been a superb Spring day, warm enough for me to spend an hour sitting in the sun. Sparrows have started nesting in my hawthorn hedge and I even had a wasp come into the conservatory.
You have far more going on in your life than I have!
I am glad you had a lovely day Weave, I would prefer it Derek if you spoke in the singular rather than the plural when giving your opinions. We can all speak for ourselves.
I think TOSH sounds like a brilliant idea. For me in the country I find little for my age group which is slightly younger than yours but am thankful for the study groups that I have found.
What a nice day! I wish I lived there. Happy first day of Spring! xo
It sounds like a very good day! I'm so thankful to see the first day of Spring arrive and it is my younger son's birthday as well. We just arrived home from an exercise class we take twice a week and I now have various chores around the house to get done. Still too cool here to work outside but the warm days will be here before too long!
It sounds like a lovely place to live Pat. Always something going on.
It felt good to feel some warm sunshine today. Hopefully a sign of more to come. X
Dear me Rachel, given that most other people commenting are full of praise for Pat, I was simply stating the obvious rather than speaking for them. Starting your latest blog with a "We" could also be seen as talking for other people just the same.
Sounds like a busy and enjoyable day. "Strugglers" - I love that! A friend of mine used to play rugby for Huntingdon Stags seniors rugby team - they were known as the Staggerers.
Weave is a dear friend of mine Derek but I do not find her an inspiration, as she will be first to say, and as she knows and has shared with me. I have many problems with no ending in sight. We all go through our problems and we all come out the other side with inner strength. If we do not have the inner strength we do not come out the other side.
Wish I lived in your little village. You have a wonderful amount of things to do and enjoy.
Hope your spring is really starting !
cheers, parsnip
And Derek as for my post starting with "We" I was assuming that all people had been aware of the talk from reading newspapers or listening to news bulletins of Stephen Hawking being an inspiration. Maybe they aren't. In which case the post can just as easily start with "I"
Ah ... someone thinking what lunch will be, preparing it, and then doing the dishes .... sounds like heaven to me !! There are days when deciding what to eat is just b-o-r-i-n-g!!
Your first sunny day coincides with a cool change here. I hope you're not stiff after a longer walk.
You make me realize, Pat, how grateful I am for all the friends I've found on this last trip around. That does not make me grateful, however, for today's winter storm warning; snow beginning at eight this evening and ending by eleven tomorrow. I will be out at both ends, worse luck.
You've had a busy day Weaver Pat. Meeting and talking with people, eating and talking with people - and the bonus of apple tart and custard - and finally walking with Miss Tess. Your day today beats all that snow and cold weather hands down doesn't it?
Alphie
Your town really sounds like a good place to live, nobody who can still get out and about at least a little bit needs to be lonely unless by their own choice, with so many activities.
Here, the day started sunny (but still below freezing point) and then it snowed all afternoon. Another sunny morning today and hopefully it will finally get a bit warmer again in time for the weekend, when my Yorkshire family come visiting.
Your town is like John's village, full of life and people, things to do and things to eat and auction rooms which attract our neighbours. But the weather is lovely at the moment.
That does sound to have been a lovely day! It's much warmer here today and begins to feel as though spring could be finally springing!
Thanks for the comments everyone.
As to being an inspiration - I just struggle in various ways to keep my head above water.
It is hard at the moment with painful memories of the farmer. As to inspiration - I think we all find it in one way or another - no two of us are alike are we.
Inspiration is the word that I used simply because at 70 yrs I feel knackered and depressed at times and then I see what you achieve at your age and I use that as my benchmark for being positive, that's all.
I fear all gardening will be delayed this year, due to the Beasts from the East....we have usually started sorting out our allotment by now. You're very organised and at least when the weather improves, you will be ready to start planting. My thoughts are with you for tomorrow and I'm glad that you will have a friend with you.
