Done it!

Well - I have done it.   I almost did it yesterday but drew back at the last minute.   After all it is only 18th August and the sun is trying its best to shine here today.   But there is a strong wind blowing.   So what is 'it'?    I have put on my thermal vest.   And on top of that I have put on a thinnish polo-necked jumper.   It was either that or turn on the central heating.   Saturday is a day when I rarely do anything and apart from administrative jobs which I will probably do when I have eaten my Sea Bass with peas and the first of my runner beans I have nothing else to do.

Saturdays are the hardest day of the week to fill when one lives alone.   Sundays are fine as I go out with three friends for lunch.   Had today been a pleasant August day then Tess and I might have had a longish walk - but even with my thermals on no thank-you!

H.I. has begun to make herself a hot water bottle at night now. She is from up North too. And they call us soft Southerners.

It's overcast here in Greater London but very muggy. It is still too hot to get in bed at night and I yearn for the cooler weather! I know you have said before that Saturday's can feel lonely - well I am married with a son who is home at the moment - and we all stay in separate rooms in the same house. Sometimes I feel very alone and as though the rest of the world is having a party - although I know this isn't true! I think that listening to a talk radio station (such as LBC)can help when feeling lonely as you then know other people are out there listening to it too. I hope that the weather warms up for you. I will blow some hot air your way! :)

Our August has been 'pleasantly ' cool.... at least for us.. Temps in the 80'sF instead of pushing 100F which is usually the normal.. I hope it leads into Fall honestly.. I'm over this Summer and its hot temps.. There was no build up just BAM hot this year... But August has come in as a surprise.. cooler.. rainy..BUT the hummingbirds are still hear in numbers so theres nothing sending them South yet.. I have a unique view of them this morning...It is misty outside this morning and there must be close to 20 of them zipping in and out of the fog to the feeder then zipping away again.. I guess they can see in the mist just fine.. lol

Stay warm dear Pat... Can't believe i just said that...lol Hugs! deb

It is pleasantly cool down here and I am coming back to life. I even cleaned my windows this morning so that must be good. Who knows what I might be able to do if the heat doesn't return. Enjoy your lunch out tomorrow.

Still mild down here, I don't want to start lighting the woodburner yet, although with next weekend being Bank holiday it might be wet and cold.

Blimey Pat, it's gonna be a long winter for you if the thermals are on already and not so long ago you was complaining about the heat.
It's a nice lonely Saturday here - watching the cricket undisturbed all afternoon with a bottle of beer, and have turned the phone off in case anybody wants to be sociable.

Still quite mild down here in Somerset . Hope that you have a lovely lunch out tomorrow!

Well Tom I admit to joining HI - I had a hot water bottle last night too - first this Autumn.

A belated reply to say how wonderfully I thought you summed up the bank holiday! And to think people look forward to them!

Pat, as a Pastafarian you can wear your thermal vest under or over. :-) wearing it over means you can easily take it off when you get warm. May the Flying Spaggheti Monster keep his friendly eye on you and protect you with his gentle wing.

Can't imagine you did this ;-) But never mind, do what makes you feel the most comfortable with. Have a lovely Sunday.

We used to have summer and winter vests, summer cotton and winter wool. Do you remember this? So we wore a vest all year round. In the north east of England where I lived in the 1970s it was said that the children of Byker and Wallsend never took their vests off for the whole of winter.

I've just returned from a walk and it's very mild here today and "close" (as people used to say, but don't seem to anymore) - no vest required. Listening to this morning's news I hear that it's been decided to carry out lots of engineering works on the railways this coming Bank Holiday - it never rains but it pours!

Oh My Goodness ... here today it will only be 98 instead of 115 but no Fall/Winter clothes yet.

According to the DP it is now officially Autumn as he saw a Wheatear this morning! A migrant.

Hello Pat, from NYC, where it feels as if we are underneath a grey soup bowl that it full of heat and humidity. Thunderstorms last night. More due later today. Cooler relief is in the Sunday forecast. Meanwhile, it feels like 35 C. Whew!

It could be months before I even want to wear a jumper! xo

No cold weather here yet, though when it does, my first difference in clothing will be a pair of socks. I must say though, our August has been like early fall. Usually it is our hottest part of the summer, with triple digit heat and no rain. It is more like September than August this year. Crazy weather everywhere it seems.

Gwil - thanks. As a Humanist I am not sure where I fit into the Pastafarian scene!
Thanks everyone. The wind has dropped a lot tonight and it is starting to rain so not quite as cold. Derek questions what I am going to do mid winter if I am in thermals already. The thought had occurred to me too. And yes Rachel I do remember the vests of yesteryear - and the liberty bodices.
Thanks everyone.

Very breezy for my cricket match today, my cap kept getting blown off and I should have worn a long sleeved shirt

Very humid in Richmond today, bought some lovely runner beans from market, eaten with lamb chops from local butchers and mint from garden.

Gosh Penhill - so near and yet obviously not as cool as here. It has warmed up a bit this evening as the wind has dropped considerably from earlier in the day.

It's winter here, and bitterly cold today. I have two layers of Merino on, and padded jacket when I go out as well. The sun is trying to shine, but unless there's a double glazed window between me and the sun, I'm freezing.

When winter comes Pat, you wear as many layers as you need to feel warm and just don't count! At 65 (and having been ill recently) I'm noticing the cold far more than I did when I was ten years younger.

Still hot here. I didn't swim yesterday as clouds came over just as I'd put-on my trunks. Today I will.

Even without air on in this old brick structure I have on a sweat shirt, too. It's cold.
