Friday lunch

Out to lunch today as we usually are on Fridays - just the two of us.   Today for a change we went to
Middlemoor,a restaurant between here and Richmond.    The ambience is excellent, the food  out of this world, the management are cheerful and helpful - what's not to like?- we peruse the menu long and hard, discussing the pros and cons of various dishes and then usually end up choosing the yorkshire Platter.

What is the Yorkshire platter I hear you ask?   Well I am sure I have described it before but it will merit being described again.   As usual there was far too much and I was completely unable to finish it.   Imagine a board.   Arranged on it in no particular order:
a colourful salad of leaves, beetroot, small tomatoes, coleslaw, red onion and the like.
three wedges of cheese - one Wensleydale, one Yorkshire blue, one Cheddar.
several slices (thick cut) of home cooked  ham.
a Yorkshire pork pie from a well-known butcher in
Richmond.
a warm roll and butter.

Believe me, by the time you have eaten this you have no feelings of animosity towards anyone (you are too sleepy to harbour them).

All this, followed by a  good cup of coffee and all
that is left to do is have a good sleep.   I am home again now and trying hard to fight sleep

The Wensleydale Show tents and the  bits of equipment are all in  place, various vans are whizzing around the site importantly.   My bungalow is over the wall and the back garden backs on the Car Park.   That is the nearest I shall get as my mobility doesn't allow me much more than a slow wander.

Typing this I keep falling asleep at the wheel so to speak.  I shall therefore go and sit in the sitting room and close my eyes - this will the signal for me to become fully awake!   See you tomorrow.

That's a nice snack that you described, I could quite enjoy that, but with an added plus - a pint of real ale or glass of wine.
The falling asleep at the key board is quite frustrating, I do it often, sometimes ending up literally with my face on the keyboard.

The meal sounds fantastic, tho I doubt I could eat it all. I do worry about waste too! But it would be nice to sample a bit of everything. Yum.

Do you bring home a doggy bag!?
I haven't eaten a pork pie for ages - I shall add it too my shopping list. Will need a good local one as the supermarket type can be tasteless

I do agree with Sue about the standard of the pork pies. Around here, because we are in deepest Yorkshire, there are quite a few specialist pie shops and competition is fierce - so easy to find a good one

Yes I'd go for that Yorkshire platter in a heartbeat!

The Yorkshire Platter sounds amazing. I don't think I could eat it all either though I'd have to eat the pork pie. I love them but have trained myself to walk past them in the supermarket!
Hope the weather holds for the show tomorrow. It's a shame you can't go upstairs and watch the comings and goings from your bedroom window! I hope it isn't too noisy - there seems always to be a man with a loud speaker at these shows.

I still have one Pork Pie in my freezer, but am almost afraid to eat it as I know I would no longer have one at hand. What a dilemma!

Sign me up for a Yorkshire platter, I know I would love it.

A Yorkshire platter would make a nice change here I can tell you. We had some success finding pies in Lazio, frozen steak and ale of an unknown brand and shipped in for a British food event. Not great but they were pies and any pie is better than none which is what we usually get. We’ve put a few in the freezer for future cravings,

eems the restaurant would have run out of pork pies had you all turned up as it seems to be everyone's favourite lunch. Thanks for calling.
