A plus!

One of the advantages of having a carer who also provides my mid day meal is that this year I have scored greatly.   Yesterday my dear friends T and S invited me to lunch - T collected me and brought me home just before dark.   S cooked a delightful meal:  Homemade Asparagus Soup - absolutely delicious, thick and creamy and oozing the taste of fresh asparagus.

Gammon cooked in the slow cooker and served with pigs in blankets and a gorgeous array of roasted veg including asparagus, sweet potatoes, sprouts - all delicious.

Chritmas pud with vanilla=flavoured white sauce.

Then coffee in the sitting room.

A lovely Christmas Day.

Then today Christmas lunch from my carer's Mum - a good old-fashioned farmer's country Christmas lunch:

Prawn cocktail.

Roast turkey, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese, sprouts, roast root veg and Yorkshire Pud (well we do live in Yorkshire).

Christmas Pud and brandy sauce - couldn't manage this so am having it for my tea.

Yes - two complete dinners and I never lifted as much as a finger.   I am so lucky.

It will be back to earth with a bump tomorrow when heavy storm is forecast.

Happy 2024 to you all.

What grand meals you have had, and for two days in a row! I am glad to read of your happy days.

How delightful to hear about your lovely Christmas, dear WoG! Any meal that includes lots of delicious vegetables is my idea of a grand dinner, especially the asparagus soup. Must look up recipes for... Your status as 'guest of honor' absolutely includes 'not lifting a finger'. As a farmer's wife for so many years, I can only imagine how many Sunday and holiday dinners you prepared in your life!

Your holiday gatherings and meals sound excellent. Everyone in your circle seems to be outstanding cooks. You are blessed. Enjoy.

You've been a good and kind friend to many, so now good food and kindness come to you. How wonderful! Hope some of those goodies and some of the yummy treats you bought at the shop can be enjoyed during tomorrow's stormy day and during this Betwixt week.

We're to have rain all day tomorrow, but no storms. Our temperatures stay oddly warm with highs in the neighborhood of 13*C and the lows about -3*C.

I want to sew as I've missed it.

Hugs!

Lucky you! It's just after Boxing Day lunch, and I feel it's only now I can stop cooking!

I'm so glad you had two lovely meals and enjoyed them as well.

As I said before, you inspire me to enjoy my life more; I tend to wallow in the sadness. So thank you for that.

It would have been a rum old farmer's kitchen to have had a prawn cocktail. Glad you enjoyed your eats Weave.x

Wonderful, although I have to say that all that asparagus would have had a certain effect on me.

Oh that all sounds wonderful! We had a ham dinner on Christmas Eve, then a turkey dinner yesterday ( at my brother’s) with Yorkshire puddings made by a young man of Greek heritage! So good to hear you are enjoying your Christmas gatherings! - Jenn

Not aware of any carers around here that provide home-cooked meals, you do appear to be quite privileged.

Delicious sounding Christmas dinner with friends! Good food, good company, good conversation!
And a wonderful Boxing Day dinner is a bonus!
Hoping tomorrow's storm isn't as nasty as forecast.
Take care, Weaver dear.

Fantastic - just hearing names of all those much-missed British Christmas delicacies whet my appetite. I did bake mince pies and made a lovely sherry trifle.
I'm so glad they took such good care of you Pat - and I know you deserved every tasty morsel.
Happy New Year - hugs, Mary

What a wonderful Christmas and so much good food. I am happy just imagining how great a day with friends and lovely meals that you didn't have to cook.

Happy New Year and may the coming weather not be too bad.

I had to Google "gammon" as I didn't know what it was. Google tells me it is like ham and that is what we had for dinner yesterday too! Your meals sound fabulous! I am glad you are so cared for!

A cheery post Pat. I bet others loved bringing a smile to your face...and often you cheer us up too. It is part of my morning routine to find out what you've been up to. Carry On!- Pam.

You have one great appetite to put all this away.

Glad you had a lovely holiday and meals. I didn't know you could serve Yorkshire pudding with poultry. We had it Xmas eve with our roast and I made them again today to go with the leftover roast on its third and final day. Nothing beats a Yorkshire.

I've been eating Gammon recently. I don't think I'd bought it before, but I love it; I serve it with pots, carrots, and butter beans, all slowly cooked together. Lovely.

So glad you enjoyed a lovely Christmas. I too was waited on and not allowed to do a thing. My youngest daughter and her husband came to me on Christmas Day and cooked delicious roast beef and Christmas pud. On Boxing Day I was taken out for lunch by my son and his wife for another delicious meal. I hope I haven't put on too much weight as I'm off to the doctor this afternoon for an injection in my knee. However, extra ballast might be useful as there is a gale blowing.

I thought the same as Rachel when I read of the prawn cocktail as part of a typical farmer‘s festive meal.
So far, I have not done any cooking this holiday, as I have been invited every day. But I am hosting a small family meal on the 30th, will be making Yorkshire pudding, roast vegetables and game in dark gravy based on red wine.

They sound like the most perfect Christmas meals, how lucky you are. When you are as nice to people as you are, they will always look after you well. It sounds like you had a lovely peaceful and food filled Christmas. xx

Marjorie - If you are a Yorkshirewoman/man Yorkshire puds go with anything and everything!

Didn't have any tea pn either evening but I love Heather saying if she has put on ay extra weight it will be good ballast in the gale blowing

Thank you everyone.
