Le Tour

I am following Rachel and my son, both avid Le Tour followers.   I watched for a while this morning and now, in a quarter of an hour I shall watch the highlights in the hour's programme on Channel 25.   My son rang me a while ago to say I must not miss it as it was dramatic and will be talked about for years.   This means a short post this evening so that I can go now and get ready for the drama which will unfold as I have just watched what happens in a short clip on the news.   See you all tomorrow.

Just as I read this there was a lot more drama unfolding at Downing Street so I wrote about that.

Le Tour started next to the town where I live now, and arrived in the town where I was born, so it was special for me today ! And a very good "étape" it was too, though it had dramatic moments indeed. It's so good to see enthusiastic people on the side of the roads, but one of them was way too enthusiastic and caused a lot of damage.

I will have to wait and read about it in the newspaper tomorrow. I am all agog!

Some awful crashes. Hard to see them all fall in such a tangle as they haven't much to protect them.

It is not something to enjoy, crashes like today's. Not nice at all. And spectators clearly hurt as well.

I love Le Tour, too, having been a memeber of a cycling club since 1980...but tonight I missed it; not a fan of watching the crashes, though. Must have a look online and see who may have gone out. The year Geraint won will never be topped!

I don't know what happened in the tour so I await your synopsis.

I was hoping to be able to watch it but unfortunately I can't get the station that was showing it here. I did see the first crash on our news. I felt sorry for all the riders that had put in so much preparation only to go down by a person holding a sign.

Not what we wanted for Day 1; let's hope the majority of riders will continue today.

I used to watch, but more for the scenery than the cycling. There has long been a problem with the behaviour and control of the crowds which often spoils the race as a spectacle. I've never owned a TV myself and don't feel I'm missing out too much.

We upgraded our tv package for a month to watch. We have been twice to the tour in France and we also went to the grand depart in Yorkshire.

I missed all the drama because son and DiL + 2 grandchildren arrived and he wanted to see the rugby!

I saw something about a major accident with some bike race, where a fan held a cardboard sign in front of one of the racers and caused a huge tumble. Is that the race you're watching? I hope your favored racer wins, if you have a favored one. :) ~Andrea xoxoxo

Andrea it is indeed that race - the most famous race in the World.
Moira - we watched it in Yorkshire as it literally passed the end of my road.Miraculously only one person had to drop out although I believe several spectators were hurt too.

The crash was horrible. Why would someone DO such a thing? And on television for the whole world to see? He will be found. Someone will recognize him.

I'm not a cycling fan but watch when it's the tour de Yorkshire - like John for the sake of the scenery! I've enjoyed it when the cyclists have gathered in Halifax too. There was a tremendous atmosphere when they set off from the Piece Hall. Hope that will happen again. Maybe next year?
