Tired

Although I seem to have been busy today I have also been very tired.   It was Writers' Group this morning but I was too tired to go and went back to bed after my breakfast and slept until eleven o'clock.

Then Tess and I went into town with a long list of things to do - I always make the list in the order of shops I pass so that I don't miss anything.

Coming home I popped a ready meal in the Aga (how handy these are when you live alone), but I must say it is not one I shall buy again; I didn't really enjoy it.   It was pasta with butternut squash and spinach and with pumpkin seeds scattered on the top.  Still, you can't win 'em all.

This afternoon Tess and I had a walk and at four o'clock we went to the vet's.   Tess has an allergy to grass which really troubles her in the summer, so she has to take tablets for it.

Now I am checking my e mails and my blog and desperately trying to stay awake until bedtime.

Sorry to hear you are feeling tired Mrs Weaver. Perhaps you should buy a jar of "Philosan". Remember the ad.? "Philosan fortifies the over forties".

My grandmother would have said that your tiredness is your body telling you to slow down . She always told us that 'the good body ' knew what it wanted and if you listened to it you wouldn't go far wrong . This was 60 years ago and I am only just taking heed of her advice , better late than never . Take care, you are an example to us all .

Sleepy days like that are wonderful Pat.. When you don't have anything that MUST be done and you can give in to them... I usually feel like that on rainy days... And like 'the imperfect knitter says its your body telling you what it needs.. best to listen to it i think....... Much hugs! deb

I hope your tiredness passes. However you did the right thing and listened to your body and taking yourself back to bed. Too many people ignore the signs.

I often have to try to stay awake until bedtime. I think it is all those boxes we have to pack. Perhaps when we are settled in our new abodes we can be a little lazy and not feel so tired. You are very sensible to go back to bed for more sleep when you need it. I take cat naps in my recliner chair during the day.

Do as you feel. You are free to do so. I enjoy your presence on my blog. Thank you.

You must've needed the sleep Pat. Perhaps you have the bug that did the rounds down under a couple of weeks ago - I had a temperature and slept for two days, then I was fine again. Sleep is a great cure, isn't it. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Somewhere there must be ready meals made with no added salt, lots of vegetables, and tasty. Have you found any?

I couldn't make it without my daily nap, nothing wrong with sleeping in.

I have been having a wander again in blogland and discovered your delightful blog - I read all the way back to your post in the New Year including the one which made me smile when you suddenly found yourself typing in italics! I then found I had a few tears for you when I was reading about your sad loss. I do wish you well when it comes to your move and look forward to catching up with your tales of daily life. My daughter and sister are not far away from you - it is a beautiful part of the country.
A good sleep is the best form of recovery from such a stressful time. Viv

Hope you have/had a wonderful nights sleep and wake refreshed for more box packing!

I think it pays to listen to our bodies when they say rest. I am always one for keeping active, but two days in this past week I have just had to listen to my body and rest, and felt much better for it.

All that packing is taking it out of you, and the emotional toll too will be exhausting you.

There is nothing worse than fighting the body when it says rest. I speak from experience. That feeling of go and rest so often coincides with but I have to do....you dont have to do anything so rest.

Pat, I did the same thing last week. I was still tired when I got up and after a while laid back down and slept. I really felt refreshed and ready for the day afterward. However, I did feel guilty for some reason which is silly. Some days you just feel better than others. Are you still going to your workout class?

A friend recommended spirulina for animals with hay fever! I wouldn't know the dose for a dog, but my cat suffers, so I may give it a go. I hope you sleep better tonight.x

Since. I have been sick, I have been eating those ready made meals. Some are not bad (but never good) and others are just terrible. However, they are quick with little clean up.

There is nothing wrong with napping when you are tired.

The ready meal sounds good by the ingredients, but I think ready-made pasta is always hard to get right.
Like almost everybody else who has commented here before me, I am sure your body was giving you the signals that it needed a rest, and you did well in listening to them.

How about beans on toast, eggs on toast, sardines or cheese o toast or baked potatoes with cheese?
I think we all (if we are of a certain age) feel meat and two veg is the only way to eat nutritiously.
Recently I have been serving more of the above meals especially when I'm tired.
We have both enjoyed the change and it has enabled me to do more gardening, walking or other activities.
Be kind to yourself.
You are not letting standards slip, just being wise when you are working through such a traumatic activity as clearing your home.
Take care. As a previous poster said you are an inspiration to us all even if you feel frayed underneath ! Sue

Zoe also suffers with allergies (remember our Border T?). And that means we suffer too... the scratching, the licking (her, not us!). She was even allergic to the allergy pills!

I am not surprised that you are feeling tired. I am in awe of all that you fit into an average day! Take it easy for a day or two.
That ready meal even sounds disgusting, so I am not surprised it wasn't nice to eat.

Ready meals have to be accepted simply for what they are - emergency belly fillers when you can't be arsed to cook something, they're never gonna be corden bleu. As for your tiredness, well I get up most mornings around 5.30 and need and then most afternoons need a short sleep and also fall asleep in the evening and I'm only a few weeks short of 70. At your age Pat you should expect to feel tired most days, vim and vigour got left behind a long time ago.

My mother tried Wiltshire Farm Foods when she was ill and did not feel like cooking. Think she was quite pleased with them. They are delivered frozen right to your door.

Squash is an odd thing, my sister and brother in law to be love the stuff, I find its taste pleasant, but jarring in a lot of meal settings.

The Weaver of Grass said...

Eleanor I intend to try these when I get into my
new home.
I don't necessarily agree Derek. I sleep well and most days don't need a mid-day rest but sometimes, particularly in my present circumstances, things catch up with me.
Donna - I haven't returned to my work out class since the farmer died eleven weeks ago, I have just had too much physical activity clearing the house. But I do go out a lot.
Thank you everyone for your constant encouragement.

Poor old Tess. Pop has on/ off allergic reaction to something outside. I give her a bath which eases it and a cod liver oil tab. I suppose tiredness isn't all that surprising given what you've been through recently. Thinking of you x
