The temperature here today in North Yorkshire is sixteen degrees and there is a strong wind blowing. I have not really been warm since I got out of bed this morning. I have just settled down for the evening, wearing winter jumper and sitting with a rug over my knees. The central heating is on. I hate to say it but at present, Winter has arrived. There has not even been a vestige of sun to shine into the window and warm the room up a bit. I think my blood must be thinning in old age.
Off now to watch University Challenge - this series has been really exciting and sometimes I can answer a couple of questions!!

Hope you warm up while watching University Challenge. Take care x
Cooler here too, with rain, rain and rain--and a hurricane barreling down on the coast that will bring more rain to these mountains even though we won't get much otherwise from that storm. Tonight we'll have our first fire in the fireplace, weeks earlier than usual but it will feel pretty good. Hot vegetable soup for lunch today--not like the soups I had in England and Ireland though. We make it "lumpy"--with the cut up vegetables left that way, not pureed. Both ways are delicious though.
You sound quite cozy, but I do hope you start feeling warm. There's nothing so miserable as being cold and unable to warm up. Do you have a heating pad for your bed? I find it tremendously helpful.
The day wasnt too bad but after 4 p.m. brrr.. Woodburner lit now. Fortunately it heats most of the house, certainly downstairs, where our bedroom is. But yes its on its way.
Difficult to believe that we're in the same country - 20 C here today and 23 C forecast for tomorrow, though I think we're into some cooler weather after that. While caring for Mum I was able to watch University Challenge for the first time in years and was astonished to find I could answer about a dozen questions. B****y H**l, I thought, after all these years I've become an intellectual! Unfortunately it only lasted a week and I was back to one or two questions the next episode.
Pat, though it's beautiful weather here, you've just reminded me why I don't like winter. It seems I can never get warm, but I'm not turning the central heat up. I'm silly like that.
I am barefooted and wearing shorts and tank top. September is usually our second hottest month, May being the hottest. We will start to get cool (for us) in November. Stay warm and cozy.
We had lovely, sunny weather today and temperatures will be even better the next days. I wish I could send you some sunshine.
It is now half past ten at night, the wind has dropped and it is a little warmer. The heating, which is on a thermostat, has gone off and I am going to bed warm! I answered four questions tonight on University Challenge - almost as many as one of the teams answered!
We had a glimpse of the sun here in West Yorkshire for all of about 10 minutes. I have more layers on today too.
Weaver, I turned on the heat by noon. Couldn't take it any longer.
Fall is almost here in Tucson, it is only 101 today and evenings drop down to 72 to 75 so nice !
No sweaters or central heating here not until end of November or middle of December.
cheers, parsnip and badger
I have to admit that I do like 16C, if there is no wind. Today was about 18C, but with blue skies and nary a breeze. Very nice.
Keep warm!
30C here in France today, perhaps I shouldn't be moving to Lincolnshire! (I'm usually thrilled if I manage to answer two questions!)
Different temperatures affect us all in different ways, I suspect there are also people in your area that wouldn't feel that yesterday was especially cold, or needed to have central heating on. You are, as you say, probably feeling the cold more easily these days but I guess most of us will as age continues to catch up with us.
Keep snug and hopeful of a return to warmer temperatures, however brief. I always feel cheated if I need heating on before October.
I make do with Egg Heads - their questions are a bit easier and I get some of them right! I'm definitely not up to University Challenge.
I know I got one right on University challenge - I shall keep a check, but I miss some mondays due to WIs.Like Heather above - I'm better at Egg heads too.
Thanks to you all for your comments.
22 degrees, sunny but windy on the reserve this morning Pat, perhaps you should hitch a ride with the Swallows and come south.
