The farmer has just returned. There was a good turn-out and the weather held until closing time, when suddenly it began to rain heavily - but of course by then it didn't matter anyway.
He took photographs as he walked round - so I will just let them speak for themselves; it gives you a taste of what the event was like:
Notice the large rumps in photo number three - Belgian blue cross beast - there would be plenty of good rump steak there.
Hope you enjoy a taste of our Show.
PARSNIPS ! BIG BEAUTIFUL PARSNIPS !
ReplyDeleteNow why just have a everyday carrot when some wonderful parsnips are there.
Parsnips arise and go forth and sing to the world.
Wonderful photos, Thank You Farmer.
cheers, parsnip and thehamish
Weaver, please convey my thanks to the Farmer for each and every one of these photographs. I feel as if I now have a good notion of what it was like to attend this famous event. What magnificent animals...and the fruit and veg look prize-worthy, too.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness the rain held off for hours. xo
Oh yes indeed, just as much as I enjoyed Johns entry on the flowershow. This is really great. When I was a child, farmers came to town and brought their cattle with them, once a year. We had large exhibitionhalls where they would fit in, I found it exciting and interesting to spend the day among cattle, honey and homebaked bread. This looks so nice, thank you Weaver!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a great day out Pat,always nice when farming folk can get together. Well done to the Farmer for the photos.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see these photos. Looks like it was a successful show.
ReplyDeleteA Proper Agricultural show! I love them. Thank the farmer for the pics.
ReplyDeleteGillx
I like the dray horses. It took four of us once to help one back on its feet. It had slipped on slippery cobbles. I think it was from Thwaites. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteYou can have the steaks - I want the parsnips! A nice wedge of Wensleydale would be tasty - do they have cheese blue ribbon winners too?
ReplyDeleteThe cart horses are so handsome.
Please thank the farmer for taking so many great pix - he did really well.
Thanks so much for the photos. For interest sake, we have similar events in Ontario in our small towns. We call them "Fall Fairs". They might also include amusement rides, games, food (hamburgers, sausage on a bun, cotton candy...), and maybe an evening dance or small concert. I love the heavy horses!-Jenn
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to attend an agricultural fair in the UK. However, since I'm fairly certain this will never happen, I truly appreciate the photos the farmer took today. (please convey my gratitude!)
ReplyDeleteThings are so different, yet so similar in our two countries. I love it!
And, the hindquarters on those beef critters are downright amazing!
No pictures of Leyburn Band!
ReplyDeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleteThe fall fair is on here today and tomorrow too.
ReplyDeleteTell the Farmer thank you from me for his photos, my favorites are the large horses. So powerful and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteAnd not too hot for the animals.
ReplyDeleteNice to see what goes on in other parts of the country. Look as though there was plenty to see there.
ReplyDeleteThe farmer is so pleased that you enjoyed his photographs of the Show and he does apologise to you Gilly for missing out the Band. (Our little town of Leyburn has a very thriving Band of which Gilly is an important member). Although she doesn't have a blog, she does read mine and comment from time to time.
ReplyDeleteI am also glad that you were pleased with the parsnips, Parsnip.
Thanks to you all for your comments.
What a glorious setting - how I would love to have been there in person. Thank you Farmer for your photos, they really did capture the occasion. Wonderful animals and hens, produce and crafts. I love those heavy horses - they are so majestic. I thought of you yesterday and hoped the weather would be kind for the show. Ours was rather damp all day.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos by the farmer, and those cattle certainly have big rumps ;) We missed our local fete yesterday due to heavy rain in the afternoon...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely show in a beautiful setting. So glad the rain kept off.
ReplyDeleteAstonishing - wonderful - fabulous. We just had our county fair and the displays are similar - some different breeds I'm sure - but great viewing and fun to see all that is on display.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Give The Farmer a pat on the back from me. Wensleydale Show looks a much bigger deal than the little show I went to yesterday - at Froggatt near Sheffield.
ReplyDeleteLove that beautiful black horse! All your photos are just outstanding!
ReplyDeleteLinda
Great photos, thank you farmer.
