Sunday 9 August 2015

Sunday lunch.

Alternate sundays the farmer walks with his walking group and I go out to lunch with my lunching group.   Today is not one of those days, so I had to come up with something for the two of us.   Added to this, I do really run out of ideas.

However, I attempted something a little 'way out' (by the farmer's standards of tradition) and for once it was a huge success (unlike my augbergines the other day!)   Pork steaks with mushrooms picked this morning from the pasture; roasted butternut squash; roasted whole onion; green beans; potatoes and apple sauce.  It was delicious.

  1. Yum, that looks very nice, a good bit of traditional Sunday lunch there as well as something a bit different. I would have had to include a Yorkshire pudding though to get away with it here.

  3. That is a beautiful lunch! As for eggplant, I like it and know few other people who do. To sneak it past my children I used to call it EP (remember "phone home, ET"), but that worked for a very short time; only until a little purple showed through and the game was up.

  4. My mum made the same Sunday lunch, well it was called dinner, week after week. It didn't seem strange to me growing up. Perhaps that is how it was with the Farmer.

I would be very happy with your Sunday lunch. Mum always had some sort of fruit pie with custard to finish up.

    Take care.

  7. Hi Pat,
Oh yeah, that's exactly the kind of supper I enjoy making. I like to make -and we both just prefer- whole, plain foods. As opposed to casseroles and such.
:) m & jb who feels the exact same way -raw chicken and keep it coming!

  8. How could that be anything but delicious. Vegs from the garden and mushrooms from the field - wonderful. I usually enjoy cooking but it is so easy to get into a rut and there are days when I would love someone else to make the decisions for me. Fortunately I enjoy eating so that is my salvation. According to the tape measure there are some who would say it is my downfall!

  11. I think I could find a space for that; at least I could have done before I ate my own lunch.

  16. We've now had rain, so maybe mushrooms on the menu here before too long. I'm looking forward to my first Butternut of 2015.... they're all sitting there looking up at me.
