There was a time when I was really interested in Politics - when I would turn up at pre election time to stick things in envelopes and lick them and then put them through peoples' doors. When I would listen to Party Political Broadcasts and believe every word 'my' party said - all other parties were lying of course, but not 'my' party. Now I know better. They are all lying in their pre-election Propaganda and I believe none of it. In fact I try to avoid listening to any of it if I can. Will I vote on the big day? Well conscience tells me I should; after all we fought long enough to get the vote. But as to who I vote for well that is another matter. As my Grandson once said - if you don't like any of them or can't make up your mind then go along and spoil your ballot paper. I just might do that.
Tomorrow W and I drive through Wensleydale to meet friends at the Wensleydale Creamery for lunch. It is forecast to be a relatively nice day (as it has been today) - I shall enjoy the company, I shall enjoy the scenery and I refuse to give the election a single thought.
Someone commented on the radio today that the election was like the Iran-Iraq war - you rather wish that both sides could lose!

Very sensible post Weave. I met three friends today. We did not discuss the election.
ReplyDeleteI thought all the hassle over Brexit was bad enough but the thought of the election is awful. I shall vote in case Mrs. Pankhurst and her followers all turn up to haunt me, but I wish there was someone I wanted to vote for.

This is what interminable positing about Brexit has done for most of us - put us off the idea of taking responsibility for chosing the person we want to represent us. Please don't spoil your vote, Weave. It just holds the door open for someone you might not want.

ReplyDeleteI don't have a vote this time, but in my constituency Caroline Lucas always wins anyway... a total waste of a vote for just one Green MP.
ReplyDeleteWith our last general election here, I felt a bit like you; none of the parties really represented "me", and their campaigns were nastier than usual. But I decided to vote for what I consider the least evil, just to make sure my non-voting would not strengthen those parties I definitely do not want to see as part of the government.

Decisions have to be made. Ask yourself were our politicians (or at least the system) always corrupt, or is it a more recent manifestation? Vote always as your conscience dictates, perhaps vote for a different political system..
ReplyDeleteLike you, I hate listening to politicians. And, they are all politicians - doctor, lawyer, indian chief or the one across the street running for constable. At least your empty promises are almost over. Ours are just beginning and there is almost another year before they will stop.
