Football
Oh dear, I have to admit to being a turncoat. I am not at all interested in football - the thought of watching a match from beginning to end never enters my head. But I have a confession to make before I go to bed for the night. I switched on the television expecting to just see who had won. It was a Penalty Shoot-out. I watched it. It was nail-bitingly exciting - I could hardly bear to watch. And when England won I was so pleased for them - they seemed so young and they looked so surprised to have made it through to the quarter finals. So well done England.
There you are Weave - you are not immured after all.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it the strangest things that make us smile and connect.
ReplyDeleteI am rooting for England !
cheers, parsnip
I am very glad they won!
ReplyDeleteI'd much rather soccer that rugby/football. I'm a New Zealander so it's heresy, but rugby is so often 'thugby' . The hooliganism that seems to go with English football I can't explain, fortunately there is no equivalent here after rugby matches. Just FAR too much drinking!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has got up to watch the World Cup matches; fortunately he doesn't mind watching alone!
Well done lads. I hear the two Colombians who missed their goals will be shot at dawn.
ReplyDeleteWell good on them, what I can't stand is the silly business of over-acted 'glee' and triumphant runs around the stadium - they are just kicking a ball around for goodness sake ;)
ReplyDeleteI tried hard not to watch it but ended up watching the second half.
ReplyDeleteWell, goodness me, never expected a post called Football here! Rachel has converted you!
ReplyDeleteDo you think you will be glued to the TV for the Sweden match ? :-)
Like you, I am (usually) not interested in football and do not watch matches just for the sake of it. But - see today's post on my blog; I made an exception last night :-)
ReplyDeleteI clearly watched a different match to the media. I watched a ponderous England side over two hours of open play, have just two shots on target, fail to score a goal from attacking play and then scrape by on penalties against a team that was hardly of the quality of Brazil or France, etc.
ReplyDeleteA hot summer, progress in the World Cup, now just the simple matter of Brexit and we are sorted.
ReplyDeleteYou watched all you needed to see Weave, the penalties.
ReplyDeleteI watched the whole thing - partly because my English husband (I'm Welsh) is home this week, but I have to admit that I'm enjoying it!
ReplyDeleteI did exactly the same Pat. I just had to know how we got on especially as my son-in-law is a keen supporter. It reminded me of the World Cup final match back in 1966 - watched in a household of supporters. So much tension - it must be bad for one's health!
ReplyDeleteThelma - my view exactly but I did get a kick (pun intended) out of those penalties.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone.
Yes, well done! (I don't care much about football either, to be honest.)
