It never ceases to amaze me how people can be so thoughtless and cruel. There are organisations which will take kittens (and if you have a cat then please have it 'doctored' to save yourself having to cope with kittens.)
My mobility is poor and after struggling as fast as I could I rang my son. At the same time the lady who cleans for me arrived and together they managed to collect four of the six - the other two ran into the hedge and it was impossible to catch them.
We put them in Tess's crate and took them to the Vet in Bedale who deals with such things. They were transferred to another crate and we arrived back home a short time ago.
They were such pretty little things and certainly not wild - but I do wonder how the two who escaped will cope. I suspect that something - a stoat, a fox, a rat - will get them as they are too innocent to survive. It is not all that far to our barn where our two farm cats live. I shall keep looking in case they find their way there.
I wish I could find out who did this. Not only because of their cruelty to the kittens but also because of the inconvenience it caused me. I am struggling to cope at the moment and certainly didn't need this.
But it is good to know that four of them are in safe hands - three ginger and one black.
As you say, there's no need to do that. It's very cruel. The kittens would probably have died if you hadn't come along. What a shame that two of them got away - not realising that you wanted to help them. Well done Mrs Weaver (and Tess)!

I live across the street from a farm and heartless people often abandon pets here. For some we can find help but others are left to nature. It is heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteAren't some folk cruel! Like you say, there are organisations out there to take animals in need. No doubt these lucky kittens will get snapped up by new loving owners. Perhaps the other 2 will stay around and might be "catchable" - here's hoping. I do love cats.
ReplyDeleteGoodness what an adventure. We have wild cats here - unneutered- who reproduce every year. It's a nightmare for the local wildlife and I'm furious at whoever let them go in the first place. They are impossible to get close to. Well done on managing to collect those you could.
ReplyDeleteAs a bird lover and gardener I'm no lover of cats but I could never do that to the kittens, it's deplorable and totally unnecessary and I just can't get into the mind of someone who can walk away from them like that.

ReplyDeletePoor babies! As young as they are, the two that escaped have no chance of surival until they are found very soon. They can not eat proper food yet (at least not enough to give them strength) and need their mother's milk and warmth.

My cat in England was born on an allotment, and despite him living until he was twenty one years of age, there was a part of him that was always feral.

Someone dumped a whole litter of Siamese kittens in the woods near us (many years ago), and they thrived for about 15 years. I haven't seen any of them recently, so maybe they have come to an end.

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were able to help four of them. People are just awful to abandon poor innocent creatures like that. My dog Ginger was "dumped" by our house as a puppy. I was dismayed at first (we certainly weren't looking to own a dog at the time) but she's turned out to be such a blessing to us!

ReplyDeleteWretched people, they should be prosecuted. The one good thing when cats end up in rescue organisations is that they get neutered, not to repeat the same story over and over again.

ReplyDeleteUpdate. There is a cat rescue lady living in Snape, not all that far away. At tea time on my walk I heard a kitten mewing in the hedge - I rang her and she came an hour ago with two traps which she has baited with food as they will be hungry by now. She is coming back later tonight in the hopes that she has caught at least one.
