It is surprising now how some days are so much more successful than others and I end them feeling a sense of satisfaction. Today is one of those days.
First of all, before going to the Church Coffee Morning, I went into town to buy a Guardian Newspaper and also to deposit three plastic bags of the farmer's sweaters in the deposit box for The Salvation Army. Another job to tick off my list.
After lunch my son came with an armful of boxes to take more books to the Oxfam Shop in Richmond for me. We packed the boxes and then I went with him and his wife into the town and while he took the books we sat in the car and then all three of us went into the Deli and bought a few things.
I came home and in a 'firm' mood I brought downstairs all the papers I had amassed on my desk, sorted them out and put them into laabelled files.
My last job of the day was to e mail the accountant to ask her when the accounts would be done. She returned the e mail within five minutes to say they were done and she would be contacting me on Monday about coming over to tie up loose ends.
Now if that isn't a satisfying day I don't know what is!

Is the purging of the books in preparation for your move into town? Books are often the most difficult things for us to sort through, decide what to keep, decide what to get rid of, and even where to take them. It is nice to have a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment at the end of a day, isn't it? -Jenn

It's nice when we can reach the end of a day and know we have achieved things in it.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a day of great accomplishment. At this stage of life often such stellar days are followed by several of 'puttering.'
ReplyDeleteI've not faced widowhood, but have found in our various moves around the country that it takes considerable time to find a 'new normal' and settle into the next phase of living.
I only ever have days like that when I start my day by making a list of things that need to be achieved. It should be easy enough to do but somehow I don't do it very often!

My oldest daughter was just mentioning last night that she can't get it all done like she used to. I told her to just work at a few things at a time - little things, but I was thinking to myself, it's all down hill from here. ;)

I love days like that; where everything just works for us, rather than against us. I wish you many more.

ReplyDeleteWhen my husband's father died, he'd been in a rest home down the road from us for a year and so all his underclothes, though nearly brand new, were named. I was delighted that the Night Shelter - where the down-and-outs can go for a meal, a shower and a comfortable bed - were please to take them, so I was able to re-home every garment he had. That gave me great consolation, that they were not wasted.
We have a once a year City Mission book fair, and they store books for months ahead of time. Last year they had 90,000 books on sale!! People queue for hours to get in! Isn't it great that these places can gain from our recycling!
Now, go and have that dram!
Slowly things fall into place, you are very organised Pat, and sorting through your books will probably off load one worry from your mind. Hope you had a good night's sleep.

ReplyDeleteI'm a bit of a 'firm' person myself. I tend to use the expression 'head-on'. I have found that it's often easier in the long run to gather a bit of steam then crack on with a job, no matter how unpleasant. The sense of satisfaction is always worth the effort.

ReplyDeleteWhat a successful day indeed! So glad the paperwork is coming together and you are staying busy. It has been unusually cool here in my part of California... I can only imagine how chilly it must be there with that cool wind.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice when things fall in order and we feel an accomplishment after doing some task. My grandson, Zayn is visiting this weekend and the weather was lovely. We painted some wrought iron furniture and fixed a bird feeder.
