Before anyone thinks that something awful has happened and I am in a state, let me hasten to reassure you that I mean the other sort of harrowing.
Last season our set of harrows finally fell apart and the farmer ordered new ones from our usual supplier. They have been so long arriving that they only came this afternoon but as I write he is whizzing up and down the fields getting as much harrowing done before the weather breaks as he can.
When he unloaded them from the delivery van I said that they looked rather like knitting which needing unravelling; well my knitting anyway (never my strong point).
Tess and I walked down the lane for our walk after lunch (the farmer had to go to hospital this morning for a CT Scan on his shoulders). It was a pleasure to see that the blackthorn blossom and the leaves of the hawthorn are just beginning to break out. Things are always so much later up here.
Another beautiful day - every day is a bonus, even if it is set to become Arctic again by the week-end.

Even the cows looked perplexed.
Chain harrows to be exact.
It has been a glorious day here too and I am champing at the bit for time and energy to do some gardening. Being a full time nurse is tiring and time consuming - I have a sneaking feeling that it is being enjoyed a little too much.
I love the way the cows are keeping an eye on the machinery and am pleased the farmer is well enough to get the harrowing done. I hope his scan results will be favourable, and thank you for quelling our fears over the word 'harrowing'! Very considerate of you.
So glad you got a break in the weather and the Farmer is up to doing some outdoor work. I love how the cows are peeking out to see just what is going on!
Here's hoping his CT report is a good one.
A steep temperature drop is forecast for the weekend here, too. By then, my furniture should all be in place again and I will use the cold weather wisely, staying at home and putting everything where I want it.
I had to look up what harrows are, I only knew the other meaning of the word harrowing. I hope your husband is not overdoing it after his scary illness!
Martin has been looking at harrows and muck spreaders for his little tractor, as well as other attachments, our hawthorn blossom is not out yet, we have been having glorious weather :-)
I like the way the cows are watching. I've never seen chain harrows like that before.
WOnder if there are any of those in that farming scrapyard I visited for this blog! Been a glorious day today, best I've had weatherwise for 6 months.
Had to smile at your new set of harrows which looks like a pile of old rusty metal. Haven't seen much in the way of hedge flowers here yet.
I bet the nurses at the hospital will be swooning when they hear your beloved has got himself a new chain harrow. Who needs a man with a shiny Porsche or Lamborghini when you can have one with a chain harrow?
I'm glad the harrow had a first name put to it. It's a new sort of equipment to this city girl.
I have to look up what harrowing is ?
Love the cows peeking out from the barn is darling.
cheers, parsnip
Gorgeous weather here for the moment, and all my digging and rotovating is now done. If only it would stay like this.
I would just point out that the set of chain harrows is rolled up for transport purposes. Once in the field the farmer quickly had them trailing behind the tractor.
They are wider than his previous ones (which finally gave up the ghost after many years of hard use) They are wider than his previous ones and therefore will not go through the gateways! But on the plus side it doesn't take so long to harrow a field of course. Interestingly they were the only set the firm we deal with could get. In spite of talk that farm machinery sales are well down this year, this is not the case up here - the rep said yesterday that they are as busy as evee.
