Blue faced Leicester Sheep.

Here goes. I shall attempt another post about them and hope that this time I can transfer the photographs. To re-iterate - the farmer and his niece went to a pukka Blue faced Leicester sheep sale last Thursday. It is her favourite breed, although I think they are incredibly ugly. But as I said then - Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder. Some of the really good ones, used for breeding, fetch an incredible amount of money. Last year's champion from the sale at Hawes Auction Mart, was sold after the show for a massive £16,000. This morning I received an e mail from said niece to say that she has now bought a tup (ram) to put with Nellie Noo Nah (her ewe). He is to be called Bert. So there you have it - Nellie Noo Nah and Bert - the Blue faced Leicester married couple (we hope). Bert's portrait is here for you to admire. The 'alien' writing turned out to be blogger's way of inserting the instruction to paragraphing. I carefully went through and erased them all. You would think that by my age I would have learned how to do things correctly.

    New to me, this breed, but looking at the pic', I think I see now from where they got the shape of the modern car -- that flat, streamlined contour -- or do I mean the modern locomotive?

    Bert looks to be of noble birth if not exactly handsome. I wish him and his wife Nellie many beautiful lambs and many happy years together (though he may of course have several wives).
    I had no idea these animals were so valuable.
    Well done for getting the picture onto your blog. If at first you don't succeed ................!

    Nellie Noo Nah is a wonderful name for a sheep! Her face doesn't really look very blue....

    I'm sure that Bert is a handsome representative of his breed and will make beautiful lambs with Nellie as soon as they are hitched. Will it be a church wedding?

    awwww, very sweet and I think if not handsome he is very noble looking.
    I wonder why they are called blue faced ? I looked them up when you posted last time and some had a soft dark brown or had dark coloring around their noses that made then look so cute.

    I was intruiged by the introduction to this breed at The Weaver of Grass. I didn't think we had them here in Australia, and research shows we do in very small numbers - bet they are expensive here as well. I think they look wonderful. The pressure is on Bert to do a good job. I suppose he'd like lots of opportunities to prove himself!
