Now we have a little gas fireplace that pretends it is stuffed with logs and a heat pump outside that supposedly keeps us cool in summer and warm in winter.Hildredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05420791064923078834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-79383095654417963002011-09-09T18:10:06.053-07:002011-09-09T18:10:06.053-07:00Bet you feel safer now with a nice clean flue! It is expensive but worth the peace of mind knowing we'll not have a chimney fire! We love our open hearth, watching the flames dance, listening to the crackling wood, and the smell of oak and hickory - does make a lot of extra dust though with an open fire!

Happy weekend - no fire here yet as it's still hovering around 90 degrees!

MaryMaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11915239653283205065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-66798969390543796592011-09-09T10:35:43.194-07:002011-09-09T10:35:43.194-07:00Thank you for replying. I remember when the bough caught fire and set the chimney alight. The smoke billowed across the road and was so dense all the traffic had to slow down! This happened more than once and eventually damaged the chimney. After she had died it had to be repaired before the house could be sold. We have to disconnect the pipe from the stove in order to get the brushes up the flue. Then it's my job to stand in the garden and shout when the brushes appear out of the chimney top. We always burned very dry, seasoned wood, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. And we never had a flue fire. I was in someone's home once when the flue did catch fire and it was very scary.Leilani Schuck Weatheringtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04517660684870960794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-29383661777520137952011-09-08T06:39:44.988-07:002011-09-08T06:39:44.988-07:00Wow, I had no idea.
