I am the family member that stays with any of our sick and/or dying animals. I feel it is important to be by their side as they pass gently. I always find the air surrounding newly cut fields carries a glorious fresh scent. The fields take on a new look after cutting and harvesting the bales. When my old fellow passed away, we called on the "white box truck" for removal. The attendant was very respectful of our feelings, covering the remains with a tarp during the procedure. He offered a consoling remark, that he could see the horse had been a well-loved pet, and then he observed that, "That's a prize Angus bull in there with him...his folks are grieving for him, too." We called the family to share condolences because we knew they were really fond of that bull and his quirks (happiest when he shared his pasture with a cow and calf), never mind his monetary value.Beth Waltzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02720634636307254576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-31279772023107609502022-12-09T08:44:07.103-08:002022-12-09T08:44:07.103-08:00The scent of newly cut grass is most lovely. Your story about the horse and his last day is very touching. If only all creatures could be cared for and loved like this horse. My own grass is quite green and still growing. I might have to mow one more time. I've never mowed in December. Your writing style is very conversational and makes reading along personal and very welcoming. Your visits to Marakesh reminds me of the award winning book, Our Horses in Egypt, which when I am feeling emotionally strong, I plan to read. It is based on the true situation of the thousands of cavalry horses left in North Africa after the war, and an English lady who traveled there to find her horse. It smells beautiful after a week or so as it matures. We've had two nearby horses die in the past few years. A digger is brought in, a big hole dug, and in goes Dobbin. A hyphen is -
while em dash is — slightly longer, can you see?
The em dash is not on the standard keyboard but requires extra keystrokes.
