Goodbye to 2022

Twenty past nine and barely light.   Ten days since the so-called "shortest day";  ten days since my carer and I stood in the window at a quarter to eight and watched the rooks fly over against an apricot sky; this morning at 9.20am I couldn't see to read the Times headline at that time.   How contrary the weather is at the Solstice - all the more to just remind us who is in charge I suppose.   One of the few things that so far we have been totally unable to regulate for our own ends.  I have a photograph of the farmer and I standing in front of the Apollo spacecraft - we can go all the way to the moon and back  but we can't   press a button so that so-and-so can have perfect weather for their  wedding day (just as well as farmer x may be desperate for rain that day to make the grass grow).

I have been absent a day or so - it is now New Year's Day and at last we have a beautiful day with clear blue sky and sunshine.   And - it always feels like a complete new start.

Oh that it could be that for places like Ukraine, and places like the English Channel where migrants risk their lives daily crossing the bitterly cold sea to get to what they think is a better life and yet where here people queue at food banks to see them through Christmas.   It is a strange old world and all I can do is to say Happy New Year to you all - please do keep reading me and sending me your comments.   Now that I am 90 and housebound they keep me going.   Thank you also for the super Christmas cards I received - they are still giving me pleasure as they wobble in their post-Christmas way.   They will stay a few more days for me to enjoy until Thursday when I am having my carpet professionally cleaned.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE.

Happy New Year to you from Virginia! We have been having wonderful apricot (just the right word!) skies at sunrise and sunset - our best view is toward the sunset and it has been remarkable for the last 2 weeks. Carpet cleaning sounds alluring after a season of tracked in leaves (our dog is like a dust mop, built low to the ground and bringing in debris).

Warmest regards,

Ceci

Best wishes for good health and the strength and fight to keep on going. My dad turned 90 this past December and is in assisted living. I admire his determination to fight to get whatever he can, out of each and every day. I think I complain about aches and pains more than he does and he's 21 years older than me. I look forward to your blog and I, like many others, worry when we don't hear from you. You've had your bumps this past year and I hope this year will be a smoother ride. Ranee (USA)

I add my New Year's greeting and good wishes for you to the many you've already had, Pat!
It's a joy to read your most interesting blog and I thank you for including us!
In her elder years, my mother put her Christmas cards into a box that was kept on her breakfast table so she could look at the cheerful cards and remember the person who had signed each one. She said looking at the cards again and again was like a little visit with those friends.

Hugs!

Happy New Year to you Weaver. Your day sounds very dark and gloomy. We don’t experience such extremes of light here in the middle of New Zealand, and of course it’s mid summer for us now, so it’s very bright and the days are long. I remember visiting England in winter and being astonished at night falling at 4pm.

I hope this year sees you in good health, and continued good spirits. You are an inspiration to us mere 70 year olds, and certainly cause me to think with your stimulating blogs.

Thank you and may you keep going, just as long as you are able.

I woke up to sunshine this morning to welcome January. However, it soon became cloudy but no rain today. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year, and twelve more months of interesting blog posts to keep us interested and enlightened. Thank you for each one of them.

I wonder what I have ever done (if anything) to deserve all of my blessings. Your blog is fantastic...so upbeat...so inspiring...no whining...I enjoy it so much. Thank you. Good luck this year...best wishes for good health and prayers.

I like your idea about starting anew. It's so simple that it's stupid. Yes, if only the Ukraine situation could start over on a plan that would bring peace. Keep on blogging. I enjoy your daily reports and look at life.

Hello Weave. We must remind ourselves to be careful what we wish for. Here in northern California USA we prayed for rain and now we're receiving it in buckets! Why, oh why, can't there be a happy medium? Oh, and "whomever" decided to throw in a couple of earthquakes!
Please don't ever feel pressured to write but I do enjoy your posts even if you write about nothing more than daily life. What else is there?
Happy New Year, dear lady!

A very happy New Year to you as well. I love your posts. My favorite ones are your reminiscing ones. How different your life was from my own. We have a nice community here and it is an interesting thing to think we would have never found each other were it not for the mysteries of the internet.
