..It gets nearer and then it is over for another year. Sorry no post yesterday but the day began on a dramatic note and my hands had a shaking day as a result and shaking days (Benign Essential Tremor) mean that my typing tends to produce gobbledegook.....
The drama was that I fell out of bed - or rather slid out. I was putting on my dressing gown when just for a split second I got a wobble on (I can barely stand unaided) and sat down quickly on the bed to stop myself falling. But I sat down at the bottom of the bed - beyond the rail along the side which stops me falling out of bed in the night. And I could feel myself sliding off the bed. I didn't wish to fall out so I let myself gently slide out thus not hurting myself. But then of course I couldn't get up (my carer was due any moment). I reached up on to the unit and got my mobile and rang my son and he came round quickly and together the two of them had me up immediately but I was shaken up enough to start a shaky day.
My only job done was to remove things shelf by shelf on the Welsh dresser in the hall - dust them all - polish the shelves and put everything back. Looks a lot better for it (the lady who cleans for me has covid).
Today I shall attack the top of the kitchen units - especially the corner where the tea/coffee/horlicks and chocolate live.
What else did I do? The Times mind games and slept a lot of the day. Any time awake I read 'Crow Country' (thank you John (by Stargoose and Hanglands ) - a fantastic read if like me you love rooks.

Well I am glad the slide was gentle and you were rescued so quickly. Also making such a virtue of house keeping, it can wait till after Xmas you know. Be a little thankful for a quiet Xmas, my daughter is worrying herself silly about fitting everyone in the house with their 'quiet places' over the holiday. Have a good Christmas Pat. xxx
So glad you didn't hurt yourself. I am only going to be 70 on the 29th of this month but I have Parkinson's Disease. I have those terrible termors from time to time. No rhyme or reason as to what triggers a tremor. I have slipped out of bed more than once in the last 10 years. the most recent slipping incident the men who came to help me up off the floor taught me how to get myself back up. But it is not easy to do. I don't let it get to me and i keep on doing what I can. I hate sleeping. I don't know what you think but I think sleeping is a waste of precious time. Your heading of "It gets nearer" made me think of the hymn O come! O come! Emmanuel! And ransom captive Israel; That mourns in lonely exile here, Until the Son of God appear.

Pat do take care! I so agree with others that a bit of dust will wait until next year especially above shoulder height or knee level. My cleaner, and now friend, will NOT let me get on a step or ladder into the loft etc and I'm 15 years younger than you. If you return things into the same spot the dust doesn't show....
I am sorry you had this accident. That said, sliding to the floor from the bed saved you from injury. Thank goodness for your quick thinking Pat. I understand you want to be productive and cleaning probably pleases you but Tom is right, (at least for a week) consider leaving the cleaning for the cleaner. I hope you feel better today. Rest, reading about rooks, completing favorite puzzles and visits/check-ins with your son and friends seems just right. Soon it will be Christmas. Rain/high winds are expected for Massachusetts. The coastline will see high tides.

Glad you weren't injured. The days are passing quickly but I will have everything ready. I am hosting Christmas Eve (all snacks and desserts) and Christmas Day (tacos!) and all of the food is purchased and ready to prepare. My four youngest grandkids (all 7 and under) will keep us hopping and happy (I hope!).

Agreeing with everyone regarding cleaning house! It will have to wait around here as with burning wood on an open hearth almost nightly now, and for the remainder of the winter, the dust accumulates, especially on the high spots, and with lower back issues I just refuse to climb on a step stool weekly!
After the Christmas decor is down and packed away in early Jan. I will start cleaning again!!!! Meanwhile a quick damp mop of the floors, clean bathrooms, beds made with fresh linen, and the kitchen refreshed once the cooking/baking is completed----that's about it!

It's not surprising that, statistically speaking, most accidents happen in the household!
Anyway, I am glad you reacted the way you did, and let yourself sensibly slide off the bed and not risk a fall that could have left you injured.
I assume with the "top of the kitchen units" you mean the work top and not the very top just below the ceiling, right? I can not imagine you getting high up there when, as you say, you can hardly stand unaided.

I have just finished the last meeting with my biggest client until after Christmas. It's still a work day tomorrow, but no scheduled meetings. Now I think I'll go down to fetch my tree from the basement.

Your "Crow Country" book sounds engrossing. I'm mainly a fiction reader but I find crows fascinating as well. I will check out the book.

Thank you for your lovely comments. Let me explain about the units. I sleep in my computer room because it is easier now I am alone to sleep in a single bed also have room for a commode - I cannot trek to the loo each time I want a 'wee' in the night. The room is lined with units from the last owners and they are perfect for me so I have kept them. Theyare waist height.

I slid out of bed just a year ago. I held the linen and eased my way to the floor. Beat the heck out of landing with a bang! Then I waited to be rescued.
I am glad it was a slide not a fall and you could contact your son. As we get older it seems to take a lot more out of us. Enjoy your Christmas. We are suddenly going to get hot here in South Australia which I don't enjoy any more. Penny.

Yikes, sliding out of bed is indeed enough excitement for the day! Congratulations on avoiding injury and carrying on with the planned chores! Best wishes also to the cleaner with covid - a difficult time to be ill with something that is already dispiriting.
Raining here on the US east coast, and supposed to get very cold later; we are fortunate that the last day's rain fell in the warmer period so we are not encased in ice like some to the north and west!
