One day at a time.......

Yes - each day a little improvement.   Today it is such a grey day here - a totally grey quiet day  - all of which helped me to go back to sleep sitting in my chair with today's Times immediately after my carer had gone at just after eight.   I woke up at a quarter to twelve!!   I have just eaten the lunch she left for me - garlic mushrooms and salad to which I added baby beetroot in sweet vinegar - and have just come to my computer, feeling a bit more perky.   I am assured by my doctor that this intense tiredness is all to do with this total change of tablets bit by bit and that once I have totally changed things will return to normal (whatever that is).

Yesterday one or two people commented on the performance of the N H S.    So I just wish to say here - I do understand that many folk are unhappy with the treatment they have had but I can only speak for myself when I say that I am 100 percent happy with the way things have gone for me - perhaps the wrong words to use but I can almost say I have enjoyed the last few weeks.   I feel that right from my seizure everyone has gone out of their way to be kind, reassuring and comforting.

I feel stronger each day and little by little my brain is returning to normal.    It is as though my brain was a finished jig-saw broken into many pieces by my fall and bit by bit somebody is redoing it.

My lovely birthday cake is almost eaten.   My son has taken over the distribtion of my tablets and my carer bought one new tablet box and my son bought another.   He called this morning for last week's now empty box (to refill for next week) just as I was making my after-lunch coffee and I saw him looking at my birthday cake so suggested he cut himself two slices for their after-lunch.   He had no difficulty finding the knife.   Like his father before him fruit cake is near the top of his list of likes.  It is now 31 years since his father died and after 39 years of happy marriage I count myself very lucky to have had 23 equally happy years marriage to my dear farmer.   And while we are  on such things as dates - interesting to read that Petula Clarke was also 90 this week and has been married for over 60 years to the same man.   And is at present singing "Feed the Birds" on the West end Stage.

Such is life dear friends.

What a joy to read this post today, dear Weaver.
Your recovery is progressing wonderfully!
Bravo to the NHS, your doctors, nurses, carer, son & friends!
Stay safe, warm and continue to heal.

Almost daily there are letters in the Daily Telegraph recounting the appalling service that people or their partners have had from the NHS and just today there was an account of an elderly lady dying in A & E while waiting for a bed.

It seems you have received excellent care and attention from all around you. Long may that continue.

Glad to know you are feeling better and had received such good care. Here on this side of the pond where we do not have NHS, there have always been conflicting reports -- those like yours, and those who say it's dreadful. I suppose it is all in one's perspective.

Weaver, you are such an inspiration to me. Your optimism and grace throughout your struggles are an example to us all. Much love to you from South Carolina, USA.

I’m so glad to hear you are having improvements in how you’re feeling. In Canada, we have a similar health care system as yours. As I’ve recently experienced, once you are able to get an appointment or see a specialist, you get excellent care. It’s the lack of staff and long wait times that makes it not so good. Take care, Pat! - Jenn

What a delightful post, dear Pat, and am glad the puzzle bits of your wonderful brain are being
fit back together in their proper places!
We like fruit cakes, too!
Nap as needed as naps are a good part of healing.

Hugs!

It must feel so good to be back home, with the carer you so appreciate and in the surroundings you love, and noticing how you improve bit by bit.
I never wished you Happy 90th Birthday - here are my very belated VERY BEST wishes to you, dear Pat!
Hats off to Petula Clarke for still performing on stage at 90.

Yes, you did well, finding not just one but two wonderful husbands to share your life with. My Mum was 15 1/2 years old when she met my Dad, and that was it for her - no more need for looking. They were together for 62 years, 57 of which they were married.

You know who is reassembling your jigsaw brain? YOU are. By simply pushing on! Perhaps you and Petula should do a duet!

You are definitely improving each day. My husband and I enjoy fruitcake however no one else in the family does. I rarely make it now because it takes so long to eat although of course it will keep forever too.

Petula Clark is 90 and performing on stage, I love that. I am glad you are recovering step by little step, I always read your blog and feel I am having a bit of a visit to your area of the world. For me it is a nice change of pace from my home in California, also a beautiful area. Be well my friend.

Glad to hear you are doing much better. We are having snow flurries today in West Virginia USA and it is a typical November day. I saw where you were talking about Petula Clark being 90. I am 83 and I say we are not getting older we are just getting better. We are like fine wine and cheese. The older the better. :) Keep on keeping on Pat. We can't do anything else can we? Have a good day.

The jigsaw analogy is brilliant!

What a positive, uplifting post! You sound happy and I am glad you feel better each day. I like that you have had good service from your NHS. People will speak up when they get bad care but many do not spread the news when things have gone well.
Petula Clark is still singing at 90! That's amazing! I remember her song "Downtown" was popular when I was a teen!

Pure propaganda! Expect nothing else from the Press.
Sad to hear of the death of an elderly lady, shame they don't report on all the good work the fantastic medical staff and ancillary workers do every day inspite of shitty hours and workload. It's turning out to be a thankless job, with general public moaning who have no idea of the pressure they are under.

So lovely to hear you're feeling better with each passing day. When each dreadful day passed without a post from you, it just didn't feel right.

Hey, I liked Petula Clark. I'm amazed that she's that old.

Sleep is the best healer so they say. While you are resting your recovery working.
I hope you didn't miss your birthday celebrations. Being in hospital is not the best way to celebrate. I can never understand why anyone should complain about their treatment from the NHS. The care my husband received could not have been bettered by any private hospital, and though I have only been in hospital a couple of times I had no complaints - even the food was alright.
I can't imagine Petula Clark being 90 which is ridiculous as I know she is just a little older than I am!

I can't say that Pet Clark was ever a favourite, but how wonderful that she's up, about, and working.

Just reading through yesterday's post to see what you were referring to about complaints about NHS treatment. I did not see any complaints of this nature at all. I am pleased to see you are progressing as one would expect after a major fit, great tiredness firstly, and then adapting to new medication and of course, old age doesn't go away.

Someone sounded a happy person yesterday Pat, things just slotting into order. An ordered brain think of that!

One of my favourite Powell and Pressburger films (made during the war) has Petula Clark in it playing a precocious little girl with wealthy parents. She has a huge fan club now. Happy Birthday Weave!

I'm so glad to find you posting regularly again. You certainly had us all worried for a while! I hope your birthday was a good one. Petula Clark is amazing.

I so enjoyed reading your post this morning. It left me wishing for two things. I'm now craving a slice of fruit cake to go with my morning coffee and I'm longing to hear Petula Clark sing Feed the Birds on stage.

What an enjoyable read this evening! You sound much like yourself again. It must have been very unsettling to have to deal with the jigsaw, which is such a vivid and clear description of what you went through.
