Wednesday

A weak and watery sun hangs overall and, although I haven't been outside I would guess it is probably one of those days when it is warmer outside than in because   there is hardly any wind either.   But it is not warm sitting here at the computer.   My thermostat is set nineteen (I put it up to twenty in the evening) and I have added a mohair shawl round my shoulders and a body warmer to my usual layers.  I have a feeling I shall weaken and turn up the heat shortly.   How does everyone else compare?  Really I suppose I suffer by not being able to walk quickly - in fact without the aid of wheelie I can't walk at all.

Interesting,  when I still had my car and could go out and meet friends for lunch wherever we decided to go, I never gave it a thought - I just took it forgranted.   Now, of course. I can no longer drive, I have found most places we used to go inaccessible to wheelchairs because there are steps so I am entirely dependent upon others and I find it  rankles.  Luckily I have enough friends to keep me going.   Next Tuesday friends P and  D are coming over from the Lakes for their birthday visit.   Priscilla fits easily into their VW and Tennants, our local very grand Auction House has fascilities for the disabled - two retaurants and both are fully adapted so that wil be my Birthday jaunt.

And on my birthday itself I am just having a  "pop in" - helped by J in the morning and S in the afternoon.   Wish you could all "pop in" - wouldn't it be lovely to meet and chat?

Well I shall pop into the kitchen and make myself a cuppa (and turn the thermostat up a notch  on the way. )  See you all tomorrow.

Here in TX Pat we are just beginning to cool down.. Most days are in the 80's F now which is a far cry from the 100's F we had all Summer.. So i'm thankful.. Evenings and Mornings is where i notice the cool the most.. Wonderfully, deliciously cool.. So no complaints here.. My favorite time of year.. Just way too short.. Stay warm my friend..It would be lovely if we could all visit! Hugs! deb

I find it frustrating when I enter restaurants that aren't accessible to people who need support to get around. I enjoyed my outings with my mother and we were always thrilled to find restaurants that were walker friendly. Even though my mother is no longer with us, I still look at entryways with a critical eye. I don't often see people out in restaurants and pubs who are using wheelchairs and walkers and it's easy to see why. I think we have a long way to go when it comes to making public buildings more accessible. Your birthday jaunt sounds wonderful!

Have you tried a hot water bottle on your lap or a wheat bag warmed in the microwave, they are a godsend to me. It is much warmer outside than it is indoors today, even down here in Cornwall. I hope you have a wonderful birthday, great achievement. Enjoy the day with your friends and other days when I am sure you will have other friends popping in to celebrate with you. I'll definitely be popping in on line to celebrate with you as will many many others I expect who have so much pleasure reading your blog. Take care.

I tried a different sleeping arrangement last night, lighter blankets and turned up the thermostat. I intermittently froze and baked because there wasn't a nice even temperature which blankets can offer. Down the thermostat and up the blankets tonight!

Funny how the cold creeps in, sitting around doesn't help much. I love my warm blanket, the mantra warm the person not the house is a good one. I think 19 degrees is a bit low by the way.

The restaurant we went to last week for my birthday did have a disabled toilet, but there wasn't room for my wheelchair. So my husband had to leave me hanging onto the grab rail and take the wheelchair out. What a farce that was! I made a mental note not to go there again. Goodness knows what I would have done if I was on my own.

Yes, warmer out than in here as well Pat. I often think that if everyone in government had to spend a week either with a walker, a wheelchair or blindfolded then accessibility would certainly increase.

Another warm and sunny and bone dry afternoon down here, Have had some chilly evenings but no C H on yet. During all this expensive power crisis that we're going through I believe the recommendation is that we turn the thermostat down rather than up. I rarely let mine go above 19 degrees all winter anyway.

I remember visiting England years ago and noticing so many stairs! It seemed like each business had a step down at the entrance and also steps to different levels within stores. It was 49 degrees outside last night. The thermostat was set for 65(18 Celsius);in the living room and the furnace went on for the first time since early May.

Rainy here so cold and damp but typical Fall weather so I don't mind it. I had to Google 19 Celsius to see what that would be for me in Fahrenheit and you keep it much cooler than I do! I am usually at 69 Fahrenheit (so that's 20.5 Celsius for you). Glad you are setting up your birthday plans. Sounds like great fun!

Quite a nice morning here, fresh but not cold and just a few spots of rain. Later very grey and now quite overcast. I have had the fire on for a couple of hours this evening with no shame!
On your birthday we will all be thinking of you and celebrating at a distance.

In my last position at tbe library, I was in charge of renovating all 10 of our locations to be accessible to the handicapped. It was a three year endeavor; every toilet, door, bookstack, aisle, entrance, etc, etc had to be made to the exact specifications the govt dictated. I was fortunate enough to find a handicapped advocate who came in to be sure I had it right, and I could call him with questions. Of my whole career with the library, this project was by far the most satisfying to me.

Is there anyone who would know how to set up a zoom meeting for Weaver's birthday. It would not even have to be on the exact day, but it would be awfully nice for us all to get together and raise a glass to Pat.

I would love to 'pop in' but alas I am too far away. Wishing the best day ever, though.

Lovely thought Debby but my dear husband is grumpy at the best of times, and can't see him joyful and red-eyed helping me to navigate a zoom meeting in what would probably be 3 a.m. here. Haha! Will definitely be raising a glass to Pat though, on her birthday. - Pam, Aust.

Hi Pat, It must make you feel good knowing that so many people all over the world will be celebrating your birthday with you, even though most of us will be in the virtual mode. Have a wonderful day and I hope that your close friends make it HAPPY.

I have my thermostat set at 21. I have it turned off from 10:00 Pm to 6:30 AM.

I turn the radiator on in the room where I am, when I feel cold. In the mornings, that means the bathroom - I hate having a shower in a cold bathroom. During the day, working from home means I keep the room where I work warm enough, and at night when I settle in front of the TV, it's a combination of blanket and heating. So far, my bedroom has not been heated.
It's been sunny again yesterday, and very mild for October.

Red -I shall have that extra 1 degree trom now on!
Debby - nice idea but I think we are too far spread. Alsomy hearing is so bad now that even with friends close at hand I can no longer hear. I go regularly to a private ear clinic but ears, eyes - I am rapidly wearing out. Best left to the imagination I think - but thanks for the idea. Thank you all for good wishes and helpful ideas for keeping warm.

It is colder than I realised today. I feel it more when the weather is damp.
It would be lovely if we could all pop round bringing birthday wishes :)

I had not even heard of it but a chance to see trump in a prison jumpsuit would surely make it worth the price of a ticket.
