Weather

No sooner do I say it is Autumnal than the next day is very warm indeed.   But somehow it still feels like the tail end of Summer.   I should have gone to the doctor's yesterday for a report  on my short spell in hospital but something went wrong with the plans and I went today instead.   The doctor is going to ring me in the morning for a chat.   He was a charming young man, all six feet four inches of him, and very reassuring about my recent 'episodes'.

Back home to find that my lawn has been cut - the first time in at least three if not four weeks.   In that time we have been lucky enough to have quite a lot of sharp, heavy showers and now my lawn is beautifully green and lush (sorry Derek).  My green bin is full to the brim and tomorrow is green bin day so it couldn't have all fitted in better.

See you all in the morning:::::

Shame you were required to make a visit to the doctors, when now he is going to ring you anyway. Don't doctors realise the upheaval of 90 year olds getting down to surgery just to be told there will be a phone call the next day. If I was asked to go down I would say no, you can come to me or tell me now over the phone. My lawn is parched brown but that is ok with me. No crass cutting needed since June.

How lovely to have lush green grass. Ours here is still very brown, though a few tiny patches of green are showing through here and there. Your doctor sounds quite positive about your episodes, as you refer to them. That is good to hear.
There is a definite feeling of late summer to everything. The nights are drawing in already, and becoming much cooler, though today has been very warm and muggy. Autumn is certainly on it's way.

A giant doctor too.

No sign of Autumn here yet but it is my favourite season so I am looking forward to the cooler temperatures and the leaves starting to turn. No green grass either as it has been a very dry summer so far.

How nice that the rains and temperate weather greened up you lawn. No cool temperatures here. The humidity continues high light occasional rain throughout the day. Lucky you to have a nice tall doctor with reassuring health updates for you.

It feels like summer is coming to a close to me as well, even though it is still quite warm here. I think it is the shortening of the days, with a noticeable loss of daylight hours now.

I'm not feeling that fall feeling yet. When the leaves begin to fall...

We had our final swim yesterday, it was a beautiful day. Today I close down the pool and make sure all is well protected from any winter frosts, etc. Tomorrow we take to the road.

Rachel's comment echoed something that I initially thought when reading your latest posting - why was it necessary for you to visit the doctor if he's ringing you today, surely the phone call was all that's needed.
Latest news shows that most of Europe is now suffering the worst drought for 500 years, anybody with green lawns can't be part of that.

Same as Rachel and Derek, I wonder why the trip to the doctor's was necessary if he rang anyway. But the main thing is that he was reassuring and your episode will hopefully remain a one-off.
Green grass has become a rarity here, too. Not a drop of rain in sight all week, and the little we had last week was just enough to wash off some dust but not really turn things round. Some farmers here have losses of up to 50 % of their crops.
Autumn is round the corner in spite of the warm days - just look at how much shorter the hours of daylight have become already.

Here in Cornwall, popular among tourists for its hot weather & Summer holidays, my lawns have remained green and lush. The front lawn has been mowed every 2 weeks never been hosed and had a single dressing of Feed & Weed. Back lawn hasn't been cut for 2 months and is only slightly longer than the front lawn and nice and green. Since the really hot days broke, we've had steady rain every day/night so happy garden again. Poor holidaymakers!

So now he tells a 90 year old that he will phone her and then doesn't. You wait by the phone. He should have had the courtesy to ring you to say he had no information to pass on (if that was the case) so that you knew to not keep listening for the phone, or asked one of his secretarial staff to do so on his behalf. We have sunk to a very low point in terms of good manners.
