The heat, the heat!!

So long  as I sit decoratively in the shade (or indoors) and do absolutely nothing I am fine.   Any 'risk' of movement of any kind and I am immediately a trembling heap.   I was never designed to endure this weather.

I look at (mostly) men and women in the Middle east in their flowing white djellabas, somehow cleverly designed not to flap open or fly above one's head in a desert storm and (rather like Scotsmen and kilts) wonder what one would wear underneath.   In Summer surely the answer would be very little.   Here folk of a certain age ( mine) might leave off a layer, or not bother with a cardi but that is about it.

And here's Brad Pitt (who else?) arriving at his latest film wearing a brown linen jacket and matching skirt.   Will it catch on?   I sincerely hope not.   Certainly amongst my aquaintances I can-t think of anyone who would be seen dead in a skirt but then that is not a very wide sample,   Bit by bit the sexes have grown nearer - jeans have even made it as a garment for everyone; tattoos are widespread these days.

Wardrobe Liberation?  We shall see,   Anybody out there brave enough to start the trend?   If so publish a photograph.   But don't expect me to let on that I know you.

My next door neighbour invited me round for coffee and she answered the door wearing a loose, flowing, light cotton kaftan. She looked very cool. Perhaps I should buy something similar for the rare hot day we get up here.

I cycled along the seafront here and joined many other people in having a lovely refreshing swim - great way to cool down.

Keeping comfortable and dressing for the hot weather has been important. More of my friends are installing additional air conditioning (heat pumps) as the summer the heat has been intolerable. Today, Massachusetts is a temperate high 70's with a cool light breeze. This year, the coolness of Fall will be greatly appreciated by all.

Lemonade and a cooling fan blowing on you will help a lot.
Our weather has cooled to 25*C but the humidity is 72% so it's difficult to breathe outside for those who have respiratory problems.

Hugs!

There's a professional wrestler who is Irish and he wears a skirt (kilt) sometimes, on tv, and I must admit he looks mighty fine in it. I think he's about the only man I've seen who can get away with it. But I suspect he could wear a boa & lipstick and still look like a he-man! *lol* ~Andrea xoxo

Brad Pitt in a skirt... does he realize he just looked ridiculous?Probably not.. I wonder if someone talked him in to that one or if it was his idea? Now a man in a kilt ? Thats a different story! Funny how that works..lol I'm in the camp that i never understand why people want to blur the lines of who they are.. But i'm very old fashioned in my way of thinking and not acceptable at all these days.. Best i can do is just shake my head and mumble to myself.. Im kinda glad i'm old and i'm not going to see where this world will end up.. Because its not looking good in so many respects.. Hugs! debs

Many years ago David Beckham wore a skirt. He only did it once. Our local high school deemed recently that boys could wear skirts in the summer but not shorts, something to do with sex equality. Madness in schools these days. As for keeping cool, the best thing to do is to aim to wear cotton garments in your house, and loose if possible, in order to keep cool. I remember reminding my mother about this and she immediately changed what she was wearing and became more comfortable. I wear shorts all the time at the moment.

The most comfortable thing I ever wore, no matter the weather, were a couple of kaftans my husband brought me back from Saudi Arabia. They were certainly the coolest thing to wear in the heat of the summer and I was sorry when I had to declare them only fit for the rag bag.

This is Brad's reasoning for wearing the skirt ...
"I don’t know! We’re all going to die, so let’s mess it up,” Pitt told Variety’s Marc Malkin.
Seems like he just wants to have some fun with it!
Kilts have been in vogue for centuries and the Scottish seem to have a lot of fun in them!

When husband and I were travelling in Scotland we saw a wedding party with formal kilt attire.
Those men looked very handsome indeed. Over the years I've seen thinnish young men with flowing hair in less formal kilts and black t-shirt looking good.
Just the thought of my old Dad in a skirt makes me laugh though, with his skinny knobbly legs - he was a stickler for no crossing the lines between the sexes.Today's world would be way beyond him, and we could never humour him about men having long hair- he was a good parent to rebel against in the sixties and never moved on! -Pam, Aust.

The trouble is with my age and condition once I am upright my legssw ell rapidly.......... I am sure kaftan's would be the answer = they would hide my legs as well as trousers. Buying a couple would guarantee the end of the hot weather

My b-i-l believes men appear only in trousers, and so he did, until a heat wave a couple of years ago. It was hot and he succumbed, but only to below the knee shorts. Ludicrous. My sister got him read Bermuda shorts which he now wears all the time and loves 'em.

I'm just old enough to remember when jeans became acceptable for young girls to wear - however they were specifically designed jeans for women with a zip on the hip rather than in front. Sailors were the only people who had tattoos. Men only wore shorts if they were playing football.

How funny! Just yesterday at the fair, I stood in line behind a very handsome young man wearing pink earrings, a purple long sleeved shirt, a long brown skirt and birkenstocks. He looked very comfortable in his own skin and was surrounded by a gaggle of nieces and nephews that appeared to adore them every bit as much as he adored them. I admit to being shocked. It was wretchedly hot for long sleeves.

In Indonesia sarongs are the national dress. The men look good in them. As a lot of Aussies holiday in Indonesia we wear them here too, maily at the beach and around the house...practical cool and attractive.

Certain people wear certain clothes simply to shock, or be talked about in the press. I imagine this was one such case. No doubt I shall see photos in today's paper.

I have not seen Brad Pitt in the photo you mention, of him wearing a skirt, I am quite happy to admit. That is not a trend I welcome but I don't really care about most clothing choices I see around town, especially since 10,000 university students live here.

With so many of us having been working almost exclusively from home over the last two+ years, dressing for work has changed. I do not work in my PJs when working from home, but certainly not as formal as when I go to my clients' offices; some of them are insurance companies and they are still a bit more traditional when it comes to what is considered appropriate business attire, than what has become fully accepted in other industries. I don't mind either way; if you wear the right size and it fits well, you can be comfortable in a business outfit almost as much as in hiking gear or a "house dress".

I don't mind if men want to wear skirts. I haven't worn a skirt or dress for years and years. I am just not comfortable in them anymore. There are more things to worry about these days than what others are wearing. As long as you can be comfortable in your outfit, Pat, that's what matters.
August is flying by and soon we will be worrying about the cold weather!

Well we might not but Pat will!

I've never been one to mind what people choose to wear or look like, I was outrageous enough myself during the 1960's.

Mostly people dress up to make a statement, like Derek used to do! Then we grow older and it is too much fuss. This said by a person who is always in jeans. I have no problem with men wandering around in skirts, as long as they co-ordinate their socks and shoes, or even wear sandals (immediately branding them as green) And there you have it we need to label everyone!
