A Pleasant Day

What started out as a possible boring day seeing nobody has turned out quite well because my gardeners arrived at lunch time and as I write this are both beavering away in my back garden - weeding, cutting back, pruning - - both on their knees.   They have just been in for a cup of tea and a toasted tea cake and as I look out of the window they have just started again.

Soon will no doubt be their last big garden job before the winter but now it is just good to admire their handiwork.

It was good to see University  Challenge new series last evening and what a cliff hanger it was too.   It has been running for such a long time and it is always exciting.   My son and I always have a contest to see who can answer the most questions - he always wins- I rarely get to ten and usually get most if it is anything easy like birds or wild flowers

Already my garden is looking so much tidier and given a good rain this week-end when it is forecast and then a couple of weeks of warm weather and - hopefully more flowers will appear.   Until tomorrow dear friends.....

It is good to enjoy others doing your garden...and reward them too!
From being a regular gardener of other people's gardens,I can say that you do get to love the gardens you do as if they were your own.

My garden, in Texas, was looking brown and very rough. Got 3 inches of much needed rain last week and it has rebounded nicely. First rain we have had in 2 1/2 months, with daily temperatures over 100 degrees. The restorative power of rain is amazing. For both flowers and peoples spirits! Glad your garden is now in tip top shape!

Tea and toasted tea cake sound so very delicious and what a treat for your gardeners! It's wonderful that you have such eye candy right outside your windows!!

Hugs!

It is always wonderful seeing a well cared for garden. The heat and lack of rain has been hard on our gardens. In the heat, I lost a few bird's nest spruce shrubs. I've bought a Katsura tree and it will be planted next week. Like you, my garden gives much pleasure.

I enjoyed coming home from the office to find that the lawn and garden crew had been hard at work that day. Autumn was always special. After a summer of spectacular blossoms and a riot of colorful displays September's preperations for putting the garden to bed was much welcomed. After everything was tidied up for the upcoming "long winter's nap" the final dressing of mulch was applied. Then in a few weeks time the nurseymen would arrive with what the neighborhood was waiting for, the Chrysanthemums! The nurseyman would always put on a good show using many different varieties of early to late bloomers. It cost a pretty penny but the neighbors did so enjoy it. I would find thank you notes and tins of homemade cookies and candies and even bottles of wine and the occasional still warm from the oven fruit pie on my door step. So Pat, I think I know how you feel when the gardeners come "to visit'. Being semi shut in these days and living in a cottage in a retirement village I know how a visit from anyone can brighten one's day. You are truly blessed with still having the gift of mobility, limited as it is, to get out and dead head and water the tubs and garden. Oh, and what a gift University Challenge must be for you. I so enjoy our American version, Jeopardy! I do so enjoy your blogging. I regret that I don't think I will ever learn the art of commenting on blogs that you do so well. I tend to comment with a chapter from the book that is my life's story. At least Parkinson's hasn't taken that away from me. And for now I must say, Adieu.

There are a lot of avenues of deciduous trees where I live, and it is delightful to see them all burst into blossom at the moment - Spring starts tomorrow. We have a Manchurian Pear tree on the lawns outside our front gate, and it's presently showing off. With a good encore it will be completely covered in white flowers, and looks beautiful in the moonlight.-Pam, Aust.

We have gardeners come twice a month to keep up with the weeds. It's always a surprise how quickly those things grow.

We are having a riotous autumn season, what with all the rain.

I feel lucky if I get more than two questions right!

I don't think I have ever watched University Challenge when in the UK, but I do like a good quiz - preferably the pub quiz with my friends :-)
It was nice reading through your post and then the comments, like Woddy's with a bit of his "life story" shared with us, and Pam's in Australia, where spring is just starting as we are heading into autumn.

Like Woody, I watch Jeopardy when in the mood for a challenge. My mother used to watch it faithfully and she was darn good at it. It was one of the many things I admired about my mother. I myself am much better at games involving word puzzles. Lately, I've been watching Wheel of Fortune regularly and I still play Wordle every morning.

Thank you all for responding. I am now on the search for another controversial post to set the cat amongst the pigeons - I do love to do this and then imagine you all in my sitting roo with a glass of something arguing the toss.

I love Jeopardy, a quiz show here. We usually watch that right after Wheel of Fortune (which is a lot like the childhood game 'hang man'.

We have really had a nice batch of rain, sorely needed and it is ever a surprise to me how quickly it all greened up again after our dry summer.
