Weather

Well, sitting in the house this morning chatting to T and S who called in, it was pleasantly cool.   When they went Priscilla and I went round to the tubs to cut off the  heads - we rounded the corner and the heat hit us like a barrage.   I filled the jugs with dead heads and then came in, shutting all doors behind us.  It is quite impossible out there in spite of the breeze.   Far to hot for me to add a post today unless it cools of later so I shall put this on for now and see how the day goes

I'm drinking lots of water, even if not thirsty.

Yes, be sure to stay hydrated Pat, very important in the heat - and something we should all do no matter what the temps are anyway. I love water - cut up a lemon and add it to my bottle. Keep it out on the kitchen island then to remind me to drink, and not to have it too cold from the fridge!

Yes, enjoy your shelter from the heat, Pat! There are books that await you and cool beverages to keep you safely hydrated. For me, it's Crystal Light Peach tea. Yum!
I might get the center of my Single Irish Chain 9 Patch queen size quilt together today, or tomorrow. Yippee!!

Hugs!

Staying cool is a challenge here all summer long but at least we have air conditioning. I don't know what the humidity is like where you are, but it's so high outside my door right now that every time I step outside I start to pour sweat. I hate it so much! Humidity makes high heat even more miserable!

Stay cool!

I haven't been out at all today. Windows open, blinds closed and lots of drinks of water. I am keeping my cooling fan in reserve in case things get any worse. It seems to have become very humid this evening so I'm hoping to cool down a bit before getting into bed.

You do well to keep indoors with doors and windows shut when it is that hot. I went to see my mother-in-law today. She is 88 now and finds the heat hard to bear. She was quite comfortable in her shady backgarden underneath a tree, relaxing in a garden chair and not doing anything strenuous.
Our cottage here is old and has thick stone walls, so it is easy to keep it relatively cool inside as long as we make sure to shut windows and doors before the hot air gets in.
We still did lots of walking today, but all at a very leisurely pace.

We've had enough breeze to create small draughts throughout the house, and it's much more pleasant. I'm finding it a tad hard to breathe (post covid) in very still air.

The high heat is very unpleasant. Being inside shaded and cool is probably best for now. Let's hope the high heat ends soon.

Isn’t this where trees and shade make so much difference (up to 25C!) Old fashioned Aussie remedies in extreme heat can be useful to bear in mind if there are power cuts and air conditioning goes out (or if you don’t have any). Some I know of include cold towels around neck, putting feet in bowl of water, wet tea towel in front of breezy window or fan. Up north I know of people walking under a cold shower in your pyjamas and sleeping till they dry and reheat, then repeating all night to get some sleep. I remember 47C here before Black Saturday fires and people were bringing their chooks into their kitchens to help them survive. Take care everyone. Meanwhile we have damaging winds and thunderstorms.

Anyone watching The Tour de France yesterday will have heard all about the weather here. 42 C at times, and no breeze. Even the pool reached 30 C yesterday. Same again today!

The heat wave in Europe is all over the news in Canada. Hang in there. Hopefully, relief will come soon.
