Variable

The first thing to happen today was that my neighbour, who I last saw on Friday, rang to say she had tested positive for Covid.   Because today is the day my monthly cleaner comes I immediately tested and luckily so far I am clear.

Yesterday I worked - for me- extremely hard and so it is hardly surprising that I am very tired today and have taken it easy.   Tonight I have a headache so don't feel I am in the clear yet as far as covid is concerned - so fingers crossed.

I went out at lunchtime to water my tubs.   When it is showery it is easy to think tubs are getting watered - sadly  it is rarely the case and mine were extremely dry and between us my cleaner and I gave them all a good watering.   The sun is very hot but there is a strong wind blowing.   Half way through the afternoon the heavens opened and there was a downpour.  Judging from which windows the rain poured down the wind seems to have gone round to the North and boy did it rain.   It is raining still, two hours later  no doubt the garden is delighted.

I have enjoyed the athletics from the States this afternoon - an amazingpole vault - a new world record.   The dedication of all these athletes - they are on T V all the time at this time of the year in one sport or another - just fills me with admiration.

I shall now go and concoct something for tea - can't say I fancy anything (ominous sign?) maybe a poached egg will fit the bill.  This reminds me of a bit I read yesterday in "Excellent Women" our Book Club book for this month where the narrator - speaking of poached eggs says she always finds that the white ends up floating about like a sea anemone.  (Lovely book - maybe a bit dated but so beautifully written -a smile on every line almost).

Until tomorrow.

Still virtually no rain here, a small shower this morning for a few minutes.
The common near where I used to live in Knodishall had a huge fire yesterday or early today - even dryer on the heathland there.
Have a good night after your busy day yesterday

Poached egg is one of my favourite meals when all else fails,
Plenty of rain here this weekend but finally the strong wind has eased off.

Is that Excellent Women by Barbara Pym? I remember enjoying her books when they came back into fashion about 20 years ago. I also read somewhere that a sloosh of vinegar in the water when poaching eggs stops the white floating away. But I'm sure you already knew that, or you have a poaching pan with little cups for the eggs in it.

That rain reached us here in Ripon a bit later, it seems; all day it was sunnier and warmer than expected (very windy, though), with big fat black clouds gathering during the afternoon and finally releasing their load some time after 5:00 pm.
Hopefully, you‘ll get over your tiredness, headache and lack of appetite without it turning out to be Covid.

We need rain, too, so please send any excess our way. Ta!
I prefer my eggs scrambled or hard boiled and diced to top a salad or deviled. Yum.
Hope you keep testing negative, Pat.

Hugs!

I do hope your friend will not be too greatly affected by Covid. It is definitely still with us and we cannot afford to relax our precautions.
I often feel slightly unwell after overdoing things so I hope you will wake in the morning feeling better once more.
We have had rain here, but not a lot. The grass is still looking very brown, though it is amazing how it perks up again after a good few deluges.

Fingers crossed you don't get covid - my husband and I had it the beginning of June - he had no symptoms and only tested because I was ill and tested positive; surprise he was too! So you never know! I was prescribed the anti virals (like the President.....) and it sounds like they ware worth trying to find if they are available around you.

On the weather front after several terribly hot and humid days we are now in the midst of a big thunder storm with driving rain. The garden can go unwatered for another couple days!

Hope you bypass Covid Pat. My son-in-law and granddaughter have it. She is only 18 months old. My daughter is run off her feet looking after them, and husband and I can't help as the little family are in isolation, and she would be even more worried if we caught it. I will be happy when they are well again but it is taking its time.
I have to keep the water up to my indoor African Violets, even though its Winter. The indoor heating dries out the soil quickly. I have ten of them doing exceptionally well. So many people can't grow them, but the secret is to group their pots together, (they like company!) and keep the leaves well away from water. I stand the pots in water when they are due for a soaking. - Pam.

Hope you don't get Covid, Pat. I was ill last week with a 5-day migraine that I still haven't recovered from. I felt quite awful for awhile but I am on the mend today just tired from it all.
Glad you got your pots taken care of. You are so good to your plants! Take care!

I hope you remain Covid free. It does seem to be on the rise again. Any rain at all is beneficial because we've all been so very dry. Still no rain here and the wind is quite strong. It was a bit cooler at 80 degrees today.

Oh heck - Civid is the gift that just keeps giving, isn't it! I do hope you have dodged it. Isn't it typical - you water the pots thoroughly, and then the downpour comes! Over here parts of the country are experiencing their wettest winter on record, and with gales thrown in, getting home at the end of the holidays proved a nightmare, with ferries and planes all cancelled. And now, come Tuesday, it's fine and still - even though we were told to expect wind and rain. Weird.

Hoping you wake up feeling fine in the morning.

It was cooler here yesterday. We were promised some rain which never came. I still managed a swim or two.

It always seems damp in the morning here, so must rain over night. Do hope Covid is not making its way around your area and you stay safe.

Ooh. Poached egg.

I hope you've managed to avoid Covid. That tiredness and headache you feel might just be your body telling you to take it easy. Poached egg is my favourite breakfast and you've now got me in the mood for some.
