Tired

I am almost too tired to type this tonight.   I watered all my plants this morning - tiring enough -and then just as I was sitting down to my salad lunch my gardeners urned up.   They have been here three hours and have done a marvellous job - cut the lawns and edged them, cut off all the dead flower heads, tidied up the  herbaceous borders, cutting back where necssary. given everywhere a good water - including the lawns and swept up after themselves.   I sat on the patio on Priscilla to watch them and to chat to J, the best friend of J my carer so I have had a lovely afternoon.   They have gone now and I intend to sit down and w atch Today at The Great Yorkshire Show - a reminder of the days when my farmer and I used to go,   Those were the days..

See you tomorrow.

No lawn cutting necessary down here, they're yellow and lifeless.

Another sweltering day and our second with no mains water due to a couple of severe leaks in the main pipes that bring the water on to our island. We've been able to collect free bottles of water from the water company collection points but not being able to wash properly or flush the toilet, or simply go to the sink and wash our hands, has not been fun. Looks like we could still be without mains water till at least tomorrow morning.

Sounds like you had a busy and full day. I always read about your activities here, but don't always comment. I don't know if you read other people's blogs. It has become a little blogger family for me!

I'm so glad your gardeners keep the garden well watered and under control so you have it to enjoy whether looking out the window or sitting outdoors, weather permitting!
Perhaps we can find the Great Yorkshire Show on You Tube? We enjoyed glimpses of it when we watched Yorkshire Vet.
Today I'm machine sewing more of my 9 Patch blocks together and am making good progress which is pleasing. Of course, I did have to sit and rest for a while even though I'm sitting down when I sew.
Wishing you sweet dreams and restful sleep when it's time for bed.

Hugs!

Still very cold Winter weather here, and the ground is sodden with plants looking waterlogged and miserable, even too wet for the snails, which my granddaughter, just learning to talk, calls 'shideddies', firmly entrenched in the family vocab now.-Pam, Aust.

You've managed a very productive day. It is always wonderful to see the garden well cared for and watered. It is so very hot. The heat continues to be very oppressive. 90 degrees F today in Massachusetts. Last night it rained but only about an inch of water fell. This made no difference for the plants and lawns. Like you, I am watering my pots just to keep things alive.

It sounds like your day was long, but pleasant. Sleep well.

I was gardening yesterday too, from 7 am to about 10 am, after that it was too hot.

I have to do all gardening before 9 pm, afterwards it is too hot. Maybe some work in late afternoon in the shadow. Yesterday we had 31°C, and it is going to be even more hot today.
You really have excellent gardeners, was it difficult to find them? Here it is almost impossible to get someone to help in the garden.

Like Hilde, we had 31C yesterday, and today it is going to get up to 33. Unfortunately, I have to work on-site at my client's office today - no a/c in the building apart from the top floor where the "top" people work (not me!). So the choice of outfit has to be business-like and at the same time matching the temperature.
Having your garden taken care of so well is great! I know you want everything to be nice and in order, but can not do much yourself any longer; all the more it is important to have someone reliable do a good job.
The Great Yorkshire Show! It was in 2017, I think, that my sister and I spent a day there with my sister-in-law and niece. We loved it! This year, we're too late to catch it.

Satisfying to have the garden looking well... ready for a bit of rain too I bet!
We are not having the heat you are having, but still need water..a brief heavy shower last night and one this morning netted one watering can fill for the greenhouse tomatoes

The island used to have its own bore holes

Pat, sorry to impose, but since I found Rachel through your blog would you be so kind to give her my best wishes from San Francisco. I don’t have a blog and prefer to post anon and she requires a google log in. Thank you

The Island still has a few boreholes but they are used to irrigate crops or nature reserves, they couldn't serve the needs of the current population.

It is a little cooler today and I managed to get out for my short walk at about 9 am, but I'm not sure I'll get out at all if it gets much hotter. Even as a child I found very hot summers completely draining, and it has never left me. Luckily my flat gets the morning sun but by lunch time I am nearly back in shade.
Glad your garden is surviving. It must be looking beautiful just now. Keep cool.

Thanks everyone we are all becoming a bit preoccupied with the weather aren't we? I wonder how much hotter it will get before we start taking our clothes off and running
out in it when it rains

Thanks everyone for responding.
