My latest dream

Do you dream?   I think we all do apparently but we mostly forget the dream before we wake up.   Sometimes I remember, sometimes I recall them in the middle of the night, but this morning I remembered my dream when I awoke.   I got up at four for a drink of water, having already emptied my glass during the night.   I got back into bed around twenty past four, not really expecting to go back to sleep but I did and when I woke at a quarter past six I woke with a beautiful feeling of enjoyment.   I am going to try to prolong that feeling by telling you my dream.   I hope I succeed, at least until the end of my post.

It was a lovely Autumn day - no wind, not too hot, not too cold.  The sun was low in the sky and the birds were singing.  There was a smell of fresh grass in the air.   There was a knock on the door.   I opened it and E, my neighbour from many years ago when I first moved up here (and still a near neighbour because we have both moved), stood there with a plastic box in her hand.

'Fancy coming blackberrying?' she said.   Did I indeed.    Off we went down Mill Lane.   The Hawthorne (May) blossom was out on the hedges of the lane and the air will full of the heady scent of the blossom.  Blackberries were hanging from the hedges (yes I know May blossom blooms in May, blackberries are on the hedges in September and early October but remember this is a dream).    We opened the gate and went into one of E and A's fields - a grass field which was yellow over with buttercups - and in no time our boxes were full of ripe fruit.   We sat in the grass among the buttercups and chatted for a while and then we got up and walked home (remember I can no longer walk without a walking aid - I had no such difficulty in my dream) and in no time at all I was standing by my preserving pan full of bubbling blackberries and sugar and, as I woke up I was filling jars with jam.

Have a nice day.

Judging by what I saw yesterday it won't be too long before there are blackberries on the hedges; they seem very advanced this year.

How lovely to remember a pleasant dream instead of a scary one! And such detail!

The blackberries are already starting to go ripe here as well. Good dreams leave you with a warm feeling all day.

That was a lovely dream. I almost felt I was on a berry picking trip with you. It was a reminder to me to fully appreciate the everyday things I enjoy but too often take for granted.

We went for a stroll around the garden this morning in a gap in the showers, and we have just a few blackberries ripe, with lots more to come from the look of it. Dreams like that are comforting, of a time when all was well with the world, or our tiny parts of it, at least.

What a beautiful dream. I couldn't help noticing huge blackberries in Hereford town (waste ground) when I was driving through the other day. We're later locally but I am keeping my eyes open to pounce on them as soon as they're ripe!

Your dream does sound lovely. It isn't frequent, but I do sometimes have a dream that leaves me with a happy feeling for a couple of days - and that is so nice.

The warm and overall good feeling after a pleasurable dream is soothing and wonderful. Fresh berries are so enjoyed and homemade jam that lasts through the winter is always the best. I'd say, you had the perfect dream!

What a perfectly delightful dream and I hope it keeps you smiling all day long! Will you call E and let her know how much you enjoyed her invitation to pick blackberries?

I don't often remember my dreams.

Hugs!

What a delightful dream! Your friendship is very precious.
I wonder....do your husbands visit you in your dreams? Mine does, often and I love this quote: "He sleeps inside my soul, And sometimes wakes up in the night. And plays with my dreams."

Gail - in answer to your question - only very rarely. But much more often I do get the feeling that one or the other of them is in the room with me.
Anonymous - in answer to your question - I don't know but I do hope not - I miss her already.

A perfect dream. I rarely remember mine, in any case they are usually totally nonsensical and rather disjointed.

. . . . and I just bought blackberries today and of course they're not in season here so must have come from some far off place!
Lovely dream - wish they could all be full of pleasant memories, don't you?

P.S. JUST CHECKED THE BOX - FROM FLORIDA, which is not too far from here! Probably raised in a greenhouse though.
Hugs - Mary

An old girlfriend of mine (in Johannesburg) has been very unwell, and was on a life support machine. The night when we all thought she might die, I dreamt about her standing motionless in a street, I approached her and gave her a very delicate kiss on her lips and she started to cry. I'm pleased to say that she's doing better now. The dream was very odd; it was about three days ago.

What a happy dream visit - it is my experience that I can improve my retention of dreams by thinking at bed time that I will remember any dreams, and then thinking back when I wake up. Not to many are as beautiful and vivid as your retelling of this one, however. Clearly you need to continue this practice (and get some blackberry jam!).

In my dreams, I soar over vistas and sing beautifully. In reality, very much earthbound - can't even fly along on a cycle anymore and I have a very nondescript singing voice. May you continue to have beautiful dreams and remember them- thanks for sharing here. -it was such a lovely dream - Pam.
