Marbles?

Am I losing them or am I losing them?   Last evening my son called by quite late with more covid test kits.   I have run out of them because I have been testing every other day since my neighbour went down with it.  I was preparing for bed.when he called -  I was taking my hearing aids out in fact,

This morning as usual I rose early ready to greet my carer when she arrived at seven.   In fact I had a tablet to take half an hour before breakfast so I was early to rise.

As with most folk I suspect I have a routine each morning -sit in my chair, switch on Breakfast TV for the News, put in my Hearing Aids so that I know I have them in correctly and  I can hear what the news reader is saying and can adjust the TV accordingly

I put in the right one, felt on the table for the left one - - - it wasn't there.   Where was it?   Panic button got louder and louder in my imagination as I searched.  I went through the house, running my hand across all flat surfaces.   No sign of it.   I took my slippers off in case I had dropped it on the carpet.  The nearer it got to my carer's time the more I panicked.   By the time she came through the door I was in tears.

She never panics.   She made me sit down and tell her the tale.   "Right," she said.  "Let's start with the obvious place.   Is it in your ear?"   You have guessed it.   I had slept with it in my ear.   Since breaking my hip I can only sleep on my back so once my head is on the pillow I don't move it.   So there it was all the time - still in my left ear.

I have told you before what a brilliant carer she is, how she solves every problem for me.   Well dear readers, she has done it again.

I am glad she solved your problem. We used to have similar experiences with our mother and we solved them for her and always laughed a lot when all was well. I wrote up the film review for you tonight. Thank you for your encouragement to come back. xx

Easily done. I wander around moaning I can't find my glasses and they are inevitable on the top of my head.

Oh, poor Weave. Don't panic, in the words of Dad's Army. You reminded me of an Andy Capp cartoon where he is doing the Pools and cannot find his pencil. He asks his missus where it is and she says it's behind his ear. "Stop messing about woman", he says, "Which ear?"

That made me smile. I would soon know if I still had my hearing aid in... mine are the size of house bricks.

Smart career! We always knew my dad was taking a nap. His hearing aid would fall out and start screeching. Of course he couldn’t hear the screeching! Then mom or I would pick up the hearing aid and put it on a table near the couch.

You probably my don’t need to test u less you have symptoms. Be careful. Our President just had it and now has Rebound. They list the deaths in my home state. I now live in Florida. Those dying are not vaccinated and or not boosted. I have no clue on this earth why people won’t get the vaccine.

Bless your heart, Pat! I've done that with earrings in the past and at that time we had cats, so who knows where their paws would have propelled one earring? All but two of the lost earrings were in my ear overnight and those lost two were never found. Now I have a small sweet china bowl where I put earrings so I know where both of them are when morning comes.
Now it's my glasses I frequently "flat spot" and then cannot see to find them!

Hugs!

We all do things like that sometimes, in spite of trying to be orderly. I end up searching in ridiculous places like the fridge when I have mislaid something. I recently bought some patchwork hexagon templates and put them somewhere 'safe' - I have yet to find out where it is. Does anyone have any ideas? They aren't in the fridge!

With me it's the t.v. remote. It has a place within arms reach by husband's grandfathers photo.
"Where's the remote?" is often answered by "Grandad has it", but when it slips down the side of the black recliner it is impossible to see. It's also often by the kettle or computer. At least there are the familiar places to look, but most frustrating when not where its supposed to be. Your carer sounds very experienced with lost hearing aids...well done!- Pam.

Oh Pat, I do sympathise, that would have been very upsetting. My hearing has recently dived, and without my aide I’m now completely deaf so I’d certainly panic if I misplaced mine. What a treasure of a Carer you have. They’re not like glasses, where your old ones will do at a pinch if you misplace them, are they. Every time I get new aides the difference in performance is incredible. I suspect that all the young people listening to music at ridiculously (injurously) loud volume has meant it’s been profitable for hearing aide companies to put money into research and development, to our advantage.

That little story made me smile, Pat. I hope you continue to stay well.

In the moment when something goes missing most people see it as a big deal. When in the end it is often a simple misplacement or losing track. We all do it. You are not alone Weave. As for your carer, she's a keeper and a lovely woman to spend time with.

Funny how easily things can go missing. I worry that a hearing aid will fall on the floor and someone will step on it before I find it.

You are amazing I think..

It's one of those times that once it's over with you can see the humor in it. But in the midst of the situation it's not the least bit funny!

I once found my wife hunting for her glasses; she was wearing them!

Alls well that ends well. I am very good at panic mode but I have learnt to sit down and think and you have a very good carer who spots the obvious...

It was unusually dark in my kitchen the other day and I had to put the light on to prepare my meal. Should have taken my sunglasses off when coming inside!

Glad the ear piece wasn't really missing! O.K.'s Dad has lost several sets of hearing aids while out walking, and even though the family always retraced their steps they only once found one again, but it was squashed with probably a bike or even a car having run over it.
I once managed to find a string of pearls my (blind) Grandma couldn't find anymore. She had opened her jewellery case while sitting on the bed, and the pearls had slid in between the two matresses.

Thank you for your words or sympathy and reassurance. Happens to us all obviously.

I do wish I could remember what I'm to do next, sometimes. I just went in the kitchen to get a glass of juice, and poured some fresh water into my cup. Guess I'll drink the juice later, if I remember! So glad you found your hearing aid so easily! Hope COVID keeps passing you (and me) by.

I’m as blind as a bat without my glasses but often take them off to see up really close (I wear varifocals). Frequently I have to telephone my 84 year old mother to come over the road to my house to find them for me when I’ve put them down and lost them 😂.

I was thinking you might have left it in your ear because I have done the same thing with mine! I will go downstairs to refill my water glass and then all the way back upstairs without remembering to bring it if something has distracted me while I was done there! It happens all the time, Pat, so don't worry! The important thing is you found it!

Laughing in empathy. I am always looking for my glasses when they are perched on top of my head.
