Cool, Dull and Still.

The three words summed up the weather today.   Had we not had any 'real' summer days we might finding today boring.   As it is it is as I say - cool, dull and still - and bliss

My garden is looking decidedly weather-beaten.   Many of the flowers appear to be finished for the year.   I am just hoping that once the withering flower heads of some of the perennials like osteospermum, hellenium, scabious and the like will reward me with a second 'flush' if  the weather is kind to them.   A very wet day would  do them (and me) a power of good but them seems to be none on the horizon.

Haven't we had a sudden rush of good results on the sport front?   The 1500 metres and Jake Wightman, the Ladies Football team last night and if he can hold on to it maybe Geraint Thomas in Le Tour on Sunday just might manage third place in what must be one of the most gruelling sport feats in the world

I am slowly getting back to normal after feeling decidedly under the weather during this hot spell.  Another couple of days of 'normal summer' and I should hopefully be back on form.   See you tomorrow.

We actually had an hour's rain yesterday evening, which freshened things up for a while but although today has been mostly cloudy but humid, you'd struggle to recognise that it had rained.
England's women's football team last night were fantastic, I've been following them for a few years now. The cycling does nothing for me.

Baking hot, windy and bright sunshine defines the day in Massachusetts. A second flush from the flower garden would be a gift from nature. Let's hope.

Today‘s much cooler weather is certainly welcome! Here in Ripon, we had some rain during the night and early morning hours, but far from enough to make up for the recent dry and hot days.
I am wearing long sleeves for the first time since we‘ve arrived!

I echo Meike - a welcome relief. On Tuesday around 5pm the hot weather was beginning to feel too much and I began to understand why it can be dangerous.

It's hot, dull, and still here with a 50/50 chance of storms this evening. Come on, rain!!! Oddly, next week is forecast to be much cooler and that will be welcome.

I hope you still have one or more of your quilts to add lovely color to your home and to keep you warm when that's needed.

Wishing you more blooms in the coming weeks!

Hugs!

Good to hear your summer weather is back to normal levels for the Dales. It is still pretty hot here but a lot more bearable than 37 to 40C.

Warm, breezy and dull this morning but the clouds lifted this afternoon and it became quite hot. We did a two hour walk before lunch when the temperature was still pleasant. Our garden is starting to look a little droopy now.

I think we’ve gone ten weeks now with no rain, when it does arrive I intend to stand outside and get soaked. The Tour this year has been extra hard with some brilliant racing, particularly Yorkshire lad Tom Pidcock just 23 on his first tour winning on the gruelling Alpe d’Huez, the stuff of dreams. And the leader today waiting for his rival who fell on a descent, sport at it’s best.

Cooler down here but still quite humid which I find very exhausting. In spite of it I managed to stay awake to enjoy a cream and jam scone with tea in the garden this afternoon with the other residents, most of whom were in the same condition. Still no rain though there were plenty of promising clouds to tease us. The grass is like straw and everywhere is desperate for a good soaking.

I have been sleeping so much over the last couple of weeks. That's how I survived the hot weather. Yes, It's good now cooler.

It seems none of us are happy in the really hot weather.

Whatever your beliefs on life I must say i am happy I was born to parents who lived in Lincolnshire where the weather is variable and often open to complaints from somebody or other
I am delighted I wasn't born in a tent in the Sahara. Thank you for your comments everyone.

I think a spot of rain would do everyone a bit of good no matter where you live right now.. Terribly , terribly dry here.. Hugs! deb

If you had been born in a tent in the Sahara your family would have reared you by instinct on how to deal with the heat.

Our weather has cooled ever so slightly as well so I'll be able to go for walks without feeling like I'm breathing through a wet rag. My osteospermum are in full bloom and look fantastic. I think of you every time I stroll past them. They are not a perennial in my part of the world but I will happily plant them again next year.

Melinda - so pleased to hear of the success with your osteospermum - do keep dead-heading and they will flower til the frost
I am sure you are right Rachel but I feel I might have been the exception that proved the rule

Thanks everyone.
