Sunday 29 May 2022

Well, important day indeed because today (my Carer's weekend off) my carer J rang in to say she has tested Positive for Covid.   Strangely enough for the past few days I have been wondering what I would do if my Carer caught the dreaded lurgy.  We discussed it on the phone and have decided that we are going to try my managing on my own.

My son is not happy about it and wishes I would get a relief carer in.   But I know I am not getting enough exercise these windy days and could do with a bit more bending and stretching.   So I am going to try.   Everyone is keeping their eye on me and a carer is standing by - I already have one day alone - so fingers crossed - let's try.

Whether or not I catch it remains to be seen - I hope  not,  but it is highly likely I expect.

First of course is to surround myself with food because usually my carer provides my meals.   So I have been on line and ordered quiche, salmon. sea bass, prawns, lotsof mushrooms and tomatoes and a large pack of jacket potatoes.   Let's see what I can concoct.   Getting dressed should be alright as long as I take my time.   Let's face it it doesn't matter what time I end up dressed does it?

Tonight there is another programme about the Queen with lots of family footage so I look forward to seeing that.  I will keep you informed about my meals!!

Keep it simple.

Please take care. Do not try to keep on top of the housework as well - it can call wait. Just go slowly!

Rachel is right. Simple is best.

A UK friend from the Midlands says she keeps a supply of "ding" meals in the freezer. Those meals are prepared but frozen and go in the microwave, which when the food is ready, goes "ding"! Yes, simple is best and can be delicious - and the housework can wait.

Wishing your carer an as quick as possible return to good health.

Hugs!

Good for you having a go on your own, I’m sure you are wise enough to know if it’s not working and ask for help. Take care and please keep well.

Take great care and please ask for help and get your relief carer in. But I admire you for trying to manage. I do hope your carer gets better very soon.

Rachel - I like simple meals best as I know you do.I have boughtlots of fish - my carer doesn't care for it so I don't get much so I shall enjoy sea bass and salmon both cook quickly and easily

I would hope that if you've got all your shots you should not get covid. If you get covid I hope it's not severe.

I'm sorry to hear that Covid has struck your carer and you've been exposed. Simple meals will be ideal. Pace anything you undertake and all should be just fine. When there is a will, there is a way and you have great will. Plus, you know how to get help if you want it.

Good on you for giving it a go. As you say, there is no rush to get dressed. Eating is important, though, so glad you have given that due thought. Your meals sound interesting.

Had the carer with Covid visited you recently? I hope you keep clear of it. We've become so complacent these days; we forget it's still there.

I'm sorry to hear about your carer and I hope you don't catch it. Since you've had all the shots hopefully you won't get it. I agree with Rachel and the others that say just keep things simple and don't worry about the housework! I'm glad to hear there is another carer standing by just in case. I know that is not what you want but it's always smart to be prepared for the unexpected. Take care my friend.

And don't forget you've got a dishwasher. Use it.

I know that you like an immaculate house ( and fridge), but don't worry about a bit of dust or whatever! It will still be there next week! As everyone says.....relax and take it easy.

Hope your carer does well and is over her problem very soon.

I hope you remain Covid-free despite your exposure. Fortunately, people like you who have kept up with their vaccines, seem to be fairing much better after getting Covid. The long term care home in which my friend's mother is living had Covid sweep through very recently. According to my friend, not one of the patients came down with a serious case. All who tested positive had minor symptoms only. Take care and enjoy your fish dinners.

Thanks everyone. I texted my carer this morning - she has a runny nose and a bad head but is otherwise OK. She has cleaned through her flat (the sky would fall in if she didn't do that)
and is now sittingdown with a coffee.

Hope your carer's symptoms stay mild and she gets well quickly. You have a good attitude about the situation and I think you will be fine. I like how you will make yourself treats that your carer doesn't usually make for you! Making the best of it all!

I like the slow and steady advice you have already received. I hope you don’t get Covid as that will just complicate things further.

started to reply to you all but fell asleep at the computer. Now I try again. I have no symptoms but can't keep awake. I managed to do everything - tidy round, wash and dresss, make the bed etc. So far so good. Carer and I are in constant contact.
