Saturday

Always a bit of a 'nothing day', especially in February with a strong wind blowing, rain falling and the temperature not all that far above freezing.   We had a 'good' January but oh dear it is going uphill now that February is here.   Still, chins up, not long to March.   I shall now put this first paragraph into store, make a cup of tea and go and watch Escape to the Country for a bit of pleasant, sunny countryside.

Well the cup of tea was made, H next door rang and said should she come round and we had a nice afternoon chatting about the old days as we usually do.   To say times have changed since we were at school is a huge understatement.   Some things for the better, some for the worse.

By the time she went home at half past five the weather was terrible - a gale was blowing and it was raining heavily - and it was 'February cold'.

Now I shall go and made myself a ham, cheese and salad sandwich and sit down and wait for the old version of Around the World in eighty days with the young Michael Palin.  Tomorrow is another day (as the heroine says in Gone with the Wind I believe  (can't remember her name I'm afraid).

We've had quite pleasant weather today and we went to the library and our little town. That was my exercise with my wheels ( Rhett) Quite a walk as the library has steep steps, so I take the disable walk ramp, 'S' and up hill. I say 'This is doing me good' with every step! Then I walked the little road to town, a trap for the unsteady as the pavers are cracked and uneven. But then a very nice coffee in town.. hope your weather warms up.. lovely to read back about your memories.

Have been up early this morning picking a posy for my mother-in-law as it has been quite humid here. The humidity has given a burst of growth to the lawns, roses, and the Lamb's Ears have gone crazy, with long spiky flowers. The bees are delighted. Should walk to the Aged Care facility, instead of drive, but heat and laziness tends to go together and makes you not want to expend much effort - unless you're a bee!- Pam, Aust.

It wasn't too bad this morning down here, though I was glad to be wrapped up. Things went downhill later with rain and strong gusty winds so I was pleased that I got my walk in early.
I did notice a south-facing bank by one of our mini-roundabouts showing lovely clusters of primroses. A treat and a very cheering sight whatever the weather.

Scarlet O'Hara indeed -thank you girls for remembering - it would probably have come to mind in the middle of the night!

I once met Palin at a tiny village Summer dance in France. What a very nice person he is!

We had a nice sunny day yesterday, after weeks of rain, fog or just gloom. And now it is rain and wind again, at 3°C. A good day for reading, baking and knitting.

Your day sounds pleasant and cosy with a friend visiting and something nice on the telly.
Snowdrops and aconites are out now in full force here, too, and yesterday was a beautiful sunny day although there was a strong wind blowing in parts. To me, that February cold feels different than December or January.

For Sue who was asking about The Old Deanery in Ripon: Yes, it is still a restaurant, has recently changed hands and looks rather nice from what I have read online.

Another chatty day for you. One of my SIL's went to teachers training college in Ripon.

Thanks for responses. I think there may well still be a Teacher Training College in Ripon (I went to one in Walsall)
Your commenton Michael Palin is interesting Cro - I always thin he seems a nice person.

We are covered in snow but the sun is shining. My young grandsons (3 and 5 years old) are coming today to spend 2 weeks with me while my son and his wife visit her family in Rwanda! Should be an exciting adventure for me!
Hope the weather lets you get out for a walk again soon.

My mother, God rest her soul, always used to say that once March 1st came we've "broken the back of winter". We've been having a horrible time of it here in Indiana... lots of lots of snow. I'm ready for spring, most assuredly! ~Andrea xoxo
