Yesterday, as I expect you know, the date was a Palindrome - 22-02-2022 - it was also my friend Ps birthday. Now for the coincidence - he actually received 22 birthday cards. Happy Birthday P!
As I am sure you all know by now (I have complained about it enough) I have been having trouble with my cordless cleaner. Derek (Letters from Sheppey) who is often a great help to me has looked into the situation for me and has advised me to ditch the wretched thing and get a new one. Now I know the cost of a new battery I could almost buy a new cleaner for the same price so T and S = also great friends= are going to go into town on Saturday morning and do just that for me. Friends - what would I do without them. The answer is without friends - and in this include my wonderful carer- I would be in care by now. Of that there is no doubt.
T and S called today, I made them coffee, put the coffee pot on my wheelie and promptly knocked it over. Not the first time I have done that and always there has been someone there to help me clean up the mess. When I say 'help me' what I mean is clean it up while I watch. So I finish as I started - Friends - what would I do without them

I hope your helper/carer lady has some input into the vacuum purchase as she will be the one who ultimately uses it.
When I worked at the school I looked after a young man who was born on July 7th. On 07/07/07 he celebrated his 21st. I think he got more than 21 cards though. My mother used to have a flask to carry hot drinks from the kitchen to the sitting room.
I would recommend a G tech air ram battery operated. It is light but very effective.
I have a cordless vacuum whose battery charge gets shorter and shorter. Now down to six minutes. A nuisance, though i am more likely to vacuum if I know it will not be for long.
I have GTech too, both here and in Italy. In the early days I had a few issues and the company were great providing spare parts free of charge, including a new battery. I’d recommend them, after the initial hitch I haven’t had any problems for years and the one in Ilkley had a real work out when we were doing building work in the apartment.
I have never used a rechargeable vaccuum cleaner so have no recommendations for you. My Sebo cylinder cleaner has lasted for quite a few years now with no sign of wearing out, but it can be quite heavy to drag around.
I have the Dyson V6 animal vacuum which, with it's long arm, can be used to do walls and ceilings as well as the floor. It also comes with a bag of attachments.
Glad you have friends to help you when you need it!
You are much loved Weave! You also do marvelously well in your own home. Let's face it, we all have accidents occasionally and that is okay. There is no better place than home...surrounded by friends and family.
I'm just learning to use my new cordless vac and thoroughly enjoy not having to move a cord all over the place...it has really been terrific getting rid of the kitty and pooch hairs, etc. however, I'm still a little overwhelmed by how to empty, etc....getting used to what goes where and how to. Just tried it yesterday. I'm pleased that you have such good support to help you out when you need it. And, at the same time, it's clear you've adapted very well to various "surprise" experiences. Take care from the base of the mini-mountain in Maine.
Rachel - strangely enough this change coincides with my carer finding a lady to do my cleaning - my carer has only been doing it until she could find me somebody. The new lady comes on Tuesday and I wanted to get it all arranged by then
Husband and I are still chuckling at 22 birthday cards on 22.02.2022 - we think there's one hidden under his pillow or hidden in a drawer. Don't mind us, we're just jealous, as with advancing years our birthday card deliveries become smaller - and a very happy happy birthday to P ! Enjoying your posts Weave. x - Pam.
You have a wonderful assortment of talented friends! Your ever efficient carer will doubtless find a cleaner every bit as efficient as she is.
Spilled coffee is a mess. Glad you had friends at hand.
We recently bought a small cleaner to cope with the new carpet on the stairs. It is totally useless, and was a total waste of money.
You are blessed with many good friends and they are equally blessed to have you as a friend. I hope you find a cordless cleaner you like!
By coincidence, I am also looking into getting a new vacuum cleaner. It may seem unromantic, but it will probably be one of O.K.'s birthday presents for me - as per my request.
I am sure your friends will happily carry the coffee pot for you, so that you do not have to transport it by wheelie.
My experience of cleaners is that they bring their own hoovers.
Rachel you may well be right although my cleaner on the farm, who I had for twenty years, never brought hers.
Thank you everyone. Seee you tomorrow.
We are so disgusted with vacuum cleaners - there just doesn't seem to be "the perfect one" anywhere. Bob says Mr. Hoover (if there ever was such a person) must be turning in his grave! We've just about given up finding one which works well, is lightweight, easy to empty, has tools which attach and stay attached, and is QUIET - why do they scream so loudly one requires ear plugs? We bring them home, try them out, repack them and return to the store constantly. It's so tiresome and no matter the price none are any good.
