Yet another day of sunshine.

We near the end of the month and at present there is no great change on the horizon.   By next week-end we shall be almost into February.   My winter duvet coat has not been out of its summer wrapping bag yet.

Just a short walk round the block today.   I did meet a charming retired greyound - a newcomer to the area - he is the most beautiful lavender-grey colour and such a gentle chap.  So different in temperament from the terriers - of which there are many around -when there are so many different breeds around  it is interesting to pick up characteristics.

Friends W and H called for a cup of tea and a couple of hours chat this afternoon, which passed the day on nicely.

Just had a long chat with my son and now I am going to watch episode three of the old Around the World in 80 days - an old Michael Palin version.  Then an early night calls.   See you tomorrow.

I'm surprised you've not needed your cozy winter coat yet. Our low temperatures in the daytime have been in the -5*C to 3*C range and I look like Nanook of the North when I go outside!

How nice to meet a gentle greyhound on your walk, to have friends pop in for a visit, and then Michael Palin to travel with. Life at it's best as we stay home!

Hugs!

Another dry, some brightness, but cold day here. Actually wore my winter coat today. Recent winters have been so mild I had almost forgotten I had one. It is supposed to be getting milder toward the end of next week but we mustn't forget that February can be pretty wintry too.
Glad you've had a nice day - sleep well.

I love how you meet and get to know the various neighborhood dogs. You are right in how they are all so different in temperament and personality. Greyhounds are such beautiful dogs. Enjoy your show tonight and sleep well!

I have been wearing my padded winter coats plus woolly hat, scarf etc. for weeks now, with only a brief unseasonably warm spell in between. You have more visitors in one week than I have in six months, and I‘m not kidding!
The last day of this month will be my Dad‘s 80th birthday.
Terriers as a breed are so unfit as family dogs; they were never meant to be, and I just wish people would THINK before getting a dog that seems to be cute and small like a Jackie or similar.

So nice to have sun at this dreary time of the year. And so nice to have friends dropping in. You are blessed!

Just popped by on my way to bed - night night all.

...and while you sleep we have strange weather patterns going on during the day, for example bushfires in the south of the state, while there is flooding to the north in South Australia, particularly at a place with the quirky name of Iron Knob. Here's hoping the rain puts out the fires in the South East. One dedicated volunteer firefighter lost her life and the Prime Minister has sent his condolences. A challenging start to the year.-Pam

When I returned to England last October, I arrived with the minimum of clothes. Knowing that in England it rains 360 days each year, I decided to buy a new Barbour (my old one has fallen to bits). Sadly I haven't yet had the opportunity to wear it. I would have been better advised to buy some new shorts. Sunny down here too.

I take issue with Librarian over her comments about terriers. I have had Jack Russell terriers on a continuous basis for the last 55 years and they have always been amazing, loyal and friendly companions in the family homes. Like any dog, a lot depends on how you treat them and exercise them.

Derek, thank you for adding your firsthand knowledge and experience with Jack Russels. I do not doubt they make good family pets if their families know how to handle them, but I greatly dislike people getting pets on a whim, just because they look cute and may be the right size for a small flat, without knowing the first thing about what a dog really needs in terms of training/education, exercise and guidance. Too many end up abandoned, neglected or at a shelter, simply because they turned out not to be the cute little doggie that the family wanted.

Your coat for winter hangs in the cupboard because you stay in during winds which are bitter at this time of year and you avoid ice and snow as well. You come out on fair days only. You may be fortunate in the Dales but here we have experienced winter temperatures.

I agree with everything you said in your second comment Librarian, nothing appalls me more than seeing little fat Jack Russells being trundled round the block by people who have little or any garden and no intention of giving the dog lengthy exercise off the lead.

You must be very lucky where you are because even my lovely thick wind resistant coat has not been warm enough on my short walks.

I do hope the greyhound had an equally lovely owner with him ;-)

We have several inches of snow this morning so I am glad my oldest son loves to shovel for his workout!
You are lucky to have sunny days to get out for your walk and I am glad you take advantage of them when you can.

Sadly there will always be daft dog owners who have no idea what kind of dog to get and how it should be treated.
