Tired

Sorry there has been no post today so far (10.30pm) but I have been very tired all day and have not even managed a walk.   It was the day for my Tesco order  and also the day when my carer doesn'tcome so I usually get up a bit later (around 8am) by the time I have done all the jobs my carer does in an hour (bed, commode, kitchen, breakfast. bathroom and help getting me dressed) it was almost 11am the time my Tesco order was due to come - and indeed it did.   So it had to sit in the garage until I had washed out the fridge and wiped the kitchen cupboard shelves before putting the food away.   By the timeI had done that and put the food away and eaten today's lunch (roast chicken and five vegetables plus Yorkshire pud) it was mid afternoon and I dearly wished to make my first lot of hummus. (Cro spurred me on the other day by talking about making it - and like him I never find any in the shops as good as home made).

So I made my hummus, putting up with the aching back which had arrived by this time.    It is certainly better than that I have been buying from Tesco but I am sure I can still improve on the recipe and before I switch off I intend  to ask Cro if he will share his recipe with me.  Do you think he will or is it a closely guarded secret?

At half past four I had my fortnightly Zoom with friends P, D and W.   For some reason I always have difficulty getting on to the correct place - I really struggle and am usually a quarter of an hour late getting on.   I find it very frustrating and begin to think there are better methods of communication.    I see friend W regularly,  Every now and then friends P and D come over for lunch from Grange - I am not sure Zoom is worth the hassle for me - is it perhaps time I stopped trying to do it or do I persevere

It was brilliant to read of all the colour you can all see in your gardens and in the countryside.   We are lucky indeed to keep the colour going almost throughout the winter aren't we?

Finally thank you Rachel for the instructions for retrieving my blog post when it disappears.   It has just done that and following your instructions I have retrieved it!

I had an elderly friend in Wisconsin who used to say "Oh my stars!" to anything incredulous. It's a phrase you never hear here, but very apt after reading this post.
You have much more patience with technology than I would ever have., and your attitude to things is so admirable. - I need to take a leaf from your book Pat, and always enjoy reading your post and the comments.- Pam, Aust.

There's absolutely no secret about my Hummus making, but I have no fixed recipe. It is always a bit different every time. This last week it could have had more Lemon juice, but was still very good. As long as you stick to the right ingredients (chick peas, tahini, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt), you will eventually find the quantities that suit you best. Alternatively, have a look on YouTube.

Good to know Rachel's instructions have been put to good use!
As for Zoom, I find it fairly easy to use and am wondering whether your struggle with it has to do with your tremor.
With my "girl friends" and for some work-related stuff, I also use zoom, and it is normally just a link you click on. If it is a regular meeting, you will use the same link every time. You could bookmark that link and have it available in your browser at one click. If you don't know how to create a bookmark (or "Favourite"), I am sure your son can do that for you.

I often wonder if I'm not alone in thinking that sometimes your obsession with cleanliness might contribute to some of your tiredness. Take the arrival of your Tesco order and your need to clean out your fridge and cupboard shelves before you put it all away. Surely many of us would not of worried our tired bodies with such extra work and simply put the stuff away as best as we could, cleaning fridges is not something I do that often.
Zoom is not something that I need in my life and don't bother with now. When our Parish Council was in Lockdown, our meetings were held via Zoom and it frustrated the life out of me.

No wonder you're tired after a day like that. I'm pleased to see that Rachel has been able to sort out the mystery of the disappearing blogs. I couldn't figure out how you were losing them, less still how you might make them re-appear.

Good news that Rachel has solved your problem and life is returning to normal. Plants are starting to appear as well, someone had photographed a little pot marigold flowering out of season in the wild on another blog.

Good old Rachel

I'm hoping that you wake up this morning and feel fresh as a daisy!
I'm glad Rachel has helped you solve the mystery of the disappearing blog posts and Zoom drove me nuts too so I understand.
As to cleaning out the fridge - I use a tea towel in the salad drawer to keep it clean and absorb moisture and always put things on plates in the fridge when defrosting and often stands things that might be sticky on a piece of kitchen roll. so the fridge shelves keep themselves clean - I hardly ever need to wipe them.

After I posted it to you it occurred to me that you are a self-confessed non-follower of instructions so I feared I had wasted my time. Next step is don't tidy it away out of sight. (The instructions are written on a small yellow index card with the intention that it can be affixed somewhere close to the laptop and always there when the fateful moment arises that text disappears).

I like Sue's clean fridge solution. I shall do that as I really dislike cleaning out the fridge for some reason.

I'm another whose fridge rarely gets a full wipe out, a tea towel in the veg drawer helps things stay fresher and means that you can simply change it and add it to the weekly towel wash. And always putting things in containers or bags means that the shelves only need a wipe down if they are empty, but not each time I put fresh produce into the fridge.

I also no longer iron ... anything at all. Things are hung over an airer to dry and then folded and put away. By the time I come to wear them or put sheets on the bed they have been folded long enough for all creases to have vanished.

Maybe my standards have slipped slightly as I have gotten older, but things are still spotlessly clean and very wearable AND I have more time for myself, which I really value.

How lovely that Rachels instructions worked for you, you must be so relieved.

I'm another who only occasionally wipes out the fridge and cupboards. Where I do my food prep is spotless, and that's enough for me.

Maybe when your friend W comes to call in person you could have her walk you through the Zoom sign on? Or perhaps your friends could send you a link that you could just click on?

I really appreciate my Zoom "meetings" . It is so good to see peoples faces if I can't be there in person. In my opinion you should try not to give up on that! I know I always re-start my computer to clear it out, before I begin. Maybe that would help you too??

I use Sue's approach and it has simplified the cleaning routine.

Homemade hummus sounds really good right about now!

Home made hummus sounds good I hope he will share the recipe. My two cents is persevere with zoom, maybe one of your friends could do a step by step list to help out.

Yesterday I could not do a booking for somethng on line, so I went out of the site and went in again. I enjoy your blog.

I am with the group that doesn't wipe out my fridge very often - only if something gets spilled really. But I know you have your own routines and you should do what you want.
I think the trick to Zoom is to click on the meeting connect button and then wait. Sometimes it takes a bit for it to come up on my screen and pushing the button over and over again doesn't help. I like the idea of one of your Zoom friends coming over to show you the steps.
You are doing well and you should be tired when you have had a busy day. Then you sleep well and start again. Hang in there!

Thanks to Rachel for a) sorting out how to undo disappearing blog
posts and also for drawing a brilliant sketch of a very frustrated me at the computer!
Also I like the suggestion that W talks me through 'how to' as regards Zoom.
Thanks to Cro - yes those are the ingredients I used - maybe a touch too much garlic.
Yea Rachel - I am indeed a self confessed non follower of instructions!

I wish I had a "Rachel" to help me sort out technology issues when they arise...and they do! When I was teaching, I always had coworkers close by who were happy to give me tips and tricks to sort out a problem. I have to use YouTube or Google for tech support these days.

I've never organized a Zoom meeting but when my friends and family do, they send me the link. The link has the passcode embedded in it so you don't need one. After tapping the link, I believe you only need to tap "Join meeting". Sometimes I need to copy and paste the link into the browser to make it work.

Sue in suffolk has some very good tips regarding keeping the fridge clean without cleaning it iut every time you have a good delivery. Definately one lessjob you can do without!

Anne said...

Tea towel in salad drawer is a tip i will use in future:)

When people like to clean they like to clean and you cannot stop them. Cleaning once a week or once a fortnight before the Tesco delivery is put away sounds alright to me and within the boundaries of being a good housekeeper. Me, I am a terrible housekeeper, I wish I was just a little bit like Weave with cleaning.

In other words, you're alright Weave.xx

well done on making your own hummus! Something I've not done for years, though I do agree it is generally better than the shop bought!
