Friday again

Friday again and another pay day past.   How quickly they come round.   The days pass by so fleetingly that I rarely know what day it is apart from Friday - pay day.

For some obscure reason my arthritis is very bad at the moment - probably something to do with the weather - beautiful sunny day after day but very cold and very damp with it.   I started out this morning but gave up after a short while as it was so bitterly cold.   Lucky that I did as friends T and S called within the next five minutes, while I was chatting to friend and neighbour M on the garage doorstep

Poor T , who has only had his new hearing aids for about a fortnight, seems to have broken the tube on one and the phone in the office where you report such things seems to be only manned at some odd times.   So he is back to being hearing aid less which is a bit frustrating.   As we went to the front door T found someone had pushed a bunch of beautiful daffodils through the letterbox - didn't take much detective work it out.   I know W had to go to Ripon today and that when she goes she usually shops in M and S Food.   I also know that around this time of year W always buys me a bunch of daffodils - and these were from M and S.   So if you are reading this W - thank you so much for putting the first sign of Spring into my house.

I have decided to have cheese on toast for my tea - always a comfort on a cold day.   Would prefer it to be crumpets but one of my resolutions was to eat less crumpets.   I have gained weight and by no stretch of the imagination can crumpets be called slimming -even without the butter!

So until tomorrow dear friends......

The opening sentence reads to my brain, sing to a lovely song. The cold brings home chilled to the bone, even when the sun is bright.
Happy Flowers & Friday!

Does putting a bit of weight on at your age really matter enough to deny yourself some favourite food.

Go on. Have a buttered crumpet. I would!

My arthritis is bad, too.
I love your header.

What a thoughtful gift it is to receive the daffodils!

How kind of W to leave you a bunch of glorious daffodils!

I'm with those who say go ahead and have a crumpet, just don't have more than one and perhaps have one only every second day?

As a nurse, I've long been of the opinion that once you reach your senior years, you can relax most dietary rules (NOT if you have diabetes!!). My Dad's doctor told him to stop having an egg every day and to stop adding salt to his food. Well, once Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer, I told him and my mother he could eat anything he wanted to and could use a reasonable amount of salt, too. Why not?

Hugs!

A lovely moment, seeing a bunch of daffs come through the letterbox!
None here but I did treat myself to a deep blue hyacinth in a glass vase at LIDL yesterday - you can see it in my post today! Smells so fragrant and cheering.

Don't deprive yourself of crumpets.

Since you mention them, today I bought the first bunch of daffodils. As I was walking home, with not a care in the world, happy about that yellow sign of spring in my hands, I suddenly stopped in my tracks. OH MY GOD. I haven't even taken down the Christmas tree yet (Norwegian pine fir - lasts forever). What a wrench. Same old story every year. I wouldn't put it past the Angel (my son) to put a tree (fully lit) onto my grave when the time comes. Here you are, Mama, even if you can't consciously enjoy it at least it'll illuminate what once was.

The first paragraph of your previous post touched me greatly. My mother is four months younger than you (Feb 1933). And, of course, all things considered, time flying like water through a sieve, I am not that far behind. My beloved grandmother, the woman who brought me up the first few years of my life, joyfully assisted by my dear sweet grandfather, died when I was just a touch over eight years old. Whilst her demise never diminished my joy of and in life I have always been aware of the finality of life. If I had three wishes, Weave? One of them would be to know the actual date. That way I could relax and get organized. Nothing concentrates the mind more than a deadline.

All the best, you are an inspiration,
U

Derek - yes it does because it affects my walking and I have difficulty walking at the best of times. If I put on a few pounds I notice it and my walking suffers.

I enjoy the happy feeling of daffodils. they are such a unique flower recognised all around the world, but somehow always associated, along with lilacs and bluebells as delightfully swathed through English landscapes. Daffodils certainly like to 'own' a vase though, centre-stage, while other flowers are more willing to share aren't they! - Pam.

How a vase of daffodils brings a sunny glow even on a cold day. Our little town has them planted in most of it's grassy areas and they always look so beautiful in full bloom.
I hope the atmosphere dries a bit to ease your arthritis.

The cold it biting isn't it. Daffodils inspire Spring and we all need a little color on a very bitter cold day. My indoor Amaryllis has large tightly closed buds but shows no signs of blooming. 10 or more days should produce flowers. Today was a good day for sipping hot tea and staying comfortably warm inside.

It is now known ( USA ) that fat does not cause weight gain, it is carbohydrates such as flour products, sugar. milk, (use cream instead it has no milk sugars in it) Potatoes and more. Carbohydrates also contribute to a lot of modern day illnesses, especially diabetes. High humidity and cold do things to our joints unfortunately.

One of my favourite lunches is toast and cheese, particularly when it's really good cheese. I must be hungry because I'm salivating just thinking about it.

I bought a pack of 6 crumpets recently. We had one each that day, then they were forgotten about until a couple of days ago when I found MOULD on them. What a shame.

The secret is not in how much fat and/or carbs you consume, but in how you balance it with physical activity. Pat, you are right in not wanting to gain weight, because you notice the difference and it makes your walking harder than it needs to be. But those who say you don't need to be overly strict with yourself also have a point.
Eat that buttered crumpet, but go for a walk afterwards :-)

I don't believe you have opted out at all. Yesterday was yesterday. Today it looks like business as usual.

Have you got a large letterbox or were they small dafs?

To add to my above comment. My husband and I do not exercise intentionally. I have exercised a lot in the past and not lost a pound when I had a high carb diet. ( I am English ) Also our blood pressure has become in the normal range, we are older !! I find this interesting and just want to pass the info along, as it is the opposite of all we have been led to believe.

Tom - daffs at this time of year tend to have shortish stems - they are all out today and a joy.

There does seems to be a universal love of crumpets - theyhave inspired me. When I do my order tomorrow I shall add crumpets!

Thank yiu for tiyr response dear readers.
