Bright and early.

Good morning bright and early - very breezy (far too breezy for Priscilla sadly) but sunny on and off.   Thank you all for your best wishes yesterday about my BET - yes, it does tend to run in families.  My father was afflicted by it for the last ten years or so of his life - it did get worse and before he died he could not get his cup to his lips but had to get his lips down to his cup!   But he never complained and put up with it with good heart - and I try to do the same.  My sister was similarly afflicted.

What unseasonable weather we have had over the festive season - each day warmer than the last.   But sadly each day it has been windier than the last and, as you know, Priscilla does not care for the wind so trips out have been minimal.   I have been reading my Christmas book (Felicia's  Journey' by William Trevor) and watching some TV.   I particularly enjoyed watching 'The Drawing of my Life' Quentin Blake which Rachel recommended and the sheer escapism of the film 'Shirley Valentine'.  In addition friends S and T for coffee and a Christmas chat, H next door for the same and various friends phone calls.   So plenty going on.

I looked at the weather report on The Times this morning and really, surely anyone reading it must agree that it has been a horrendous year and surely an indication of climate change wouldn't you agree?   'Catastrophic floods' in Germany; Huge tornados in the US, and a second year of more than usual Atlantic hurricanes.   Then there were the temperatures - record breaking - forty nine degrees in British Columbia (highest ever in Canada),  such high temperatures in many places so that huge wild fires broke out.   Interestingly in Greenland it rained for the first time on record on the summit of Greenland's ice sheet and for a long spell there was melting of the ice.   Fifteen degrees above normal remperatures in Siberia.   When we look at them all together then the prospect of Climate change does become a bit scary doesn' it?  See you tomorrow dear bloggy pals.

Hello bloggy pal. I crave a return to freezing temperatures and at least the possibility of a white Christmas. I don't think they even bother to run a book on it these days.

Two thoughts about BET. (1) Would you be better with a trackball mouse which moves the cursor by thumb instead of by moving the mouse? (2) You used to be able to get keyboard key guards which are a kind of grid that fits over the keyboard to help prevent pressing an adjacent key. Obviously they make typing a bit slower. I'm not sure how well they work with recent keyboards but they worked well with the old style that had greater spaces between the keys. Perhaps just an old style keyboard would help. Your O.T. may know.

It is quiet here today. I am having my morning coffee at the computer and when I am done, I'll get up and put the house back to its preholiday order.

When you spoke of the wind, it brought back a memory of how the wind howled against our house in the woods. In the summer, the trees around us made it sound like rushing water. I miss the wind. We don't hear it much in town. When we move back to the country, I'll be glad to hear the wind again.

Dear Pat ... You are so correct about the climate change dilemma! Every year in the U.S., we have both tornado and hurricane seasons, however, the climate change seems to make them more horrendous then what they have been.
There is a disastrous wild fire burning in Boulder, CO right now ... Last I heard, 500 homes burnt to the ground! Very dry conditions and high winds are not a good combination!
2022 has to be the doorway to making tremendous changes in every aspect of the lives of everyone on this Planet!
Sending love 💕 and hugs to you!!

To determine whether my tremor was Parkinson's or ET I went through a lengthy brain scan. I don't have Parkinson's, thank God although 2 of my siblings did. I have one pound weights I use to strengthen my arm muscles and I massage my hands and fingers. A good deal of the problem with aging is frailty or muscle weakness. It seems logical, but time will tell.

The weather report in my Telegraph today, that caught my eye, was the fact that this month looks like being the dullest December since the 1950's - I can certainly agree with that, probably only had a couple of sunny days. A heatwave next summer would be nice.

I'm not sure about the instant media reflex that always labels any unusual weather as evidence of global warming. I have lived through the 1963 big freeze (where my parents lived in Sussex the snow lay on the ground from Boxing Day 1962 until the first week in March, and neighbors had heating oil freeze in outside tanks.) Likewise my elder brother was a newborn baby through the horrendous winter of 1947. I also have pictures taken of our local Boxing Day hunt meetings on successive years - in the first there is over a foot of snow on the ground and in the second everyone is in shorts and tee-shirts with temperature s in the 60's F.

Perhaps the diansaurs farted too much or breathed out too much. Oh their's was a big freeze that came and wiped them out, sorry forgot. Perhaps they frightened an asteroid out of the sky and it blew up the earth and the winds changed. Don't know what happened to Dunwich when it drowned, a big storm brewed up from the east one night and the full moon took the village away.

Must admit I am glad I am not younger. The change in weather patterns in my life has been dreadful.

My mother had an expression that sums it up perfectly “nasty plague of humans.”

I agree with "Unkown". I was born in the bad winter of 1947, endured the big floods of 1953, worked in the big freeze of 62-63 and no mention of Climate Change was suggested at those times.

And as I recall during the 1970/80s the talk was of the coming ice age!?

Well today I felt that wind in Saltaire not Heptonstall Pat and followed all of David Hockney's art of the weather down a country lane. Whilst my daughter and GD watched a video of a snowy drive down the selfsame lane. Happy New Year whether we are experiencing Climate change or not ;)

I think the most terrifying result of climate change is the increase in massive forest fires. The videos of families attempting to escape forest fires in their vehicles, with burning trees all around them, are horrific. Three years ago, the house behind us burned down. Fortunately, the family made it out safely but it was frightening to watch. I can't imagine whole towns burning down, (which has happened in both Alberta and BC within the past few years.)
I'm glad you're feeling a little better today in regards to the tremors.
Happy 2022! Thank you for making my 2021 much sweeter.

I am longing for some good news for a change, as many others must also. It all seems doom and gloom at present and I am hoping that maybe 2022 will bring us some. Even a little bit would be good.
The strength of the wind is a worry but at least we are not facing snow and freezing temperatures.

You never know what to expect of the weather these days. Christmas Eve we had record breaking warm temps. Tonight and tomorrow we will be below freezing with ice and snow.

I send you wishes for a Happy New Year filled with friendship, love, and pleasant days!

Unknown above said it the best about climate change. The media hypes up any hint of something sensational as in "climate change" here we have had two very wet days. Unusual but cyclical. People love drama and to identify with certain beliefs to make themselves important. It is how we are programmed as humans.

Our TV weatherman told last night that the chance for a white Christmas used to be one in five years, now it is one in fifteen years. When I was a child, I got new skis every two years and I remember that I always tried them out at least on Boxing Day. Of course that might be a case of false memory, but I am absolutely sure that we never had 14°C (57°F).

Scargill certainly helped with the UK's pollution reduction, but whilst China continues to burn inordinate amounts of Coal, his contribution seems like peanuts.

Thank you for that info Tasker - I shall get my son to look into it for me.
I was in China thirty years ago when almost everyone wore a mask because of the pollution. I think things are to some extent better than that now - it is a long job in such a vast country. This is another of those occasions when I wish we could all sit in my sitting room with a drink and chat about it.
