9/11

First of all just a reminder that today commemorates twenty years since 9/11 - so remember all those almost three thousand who perished and their loved ones who were left behind.

And, of course, life has gone on without them and those left behind have had to pick up the pieces - which always is the case. And life has moved on.

                               ************

And the world has changed for us all but as will always happen it is easy to look back and see what went wrong.   Afghanistan has happened and almost as many of our joint American and British soldiers have been killed and many maimed for life.  And Afghanistan's people have also paid a high price and it is now time to question 'for what'?

                                ************

To continue on a happier note.   Covid is with us still but in spite of this 'The Last Night of the Proms' is tonight and it comes with much of its usual razzamatazz.   I shall watch it and I shall sing along with 'Rule Brittania' - not because I agree with the sentiment behind it but just because I enjoy a good sing in a crowd.   And I can't wait to see what the soloist will be wearing (I understand he intends to surprise us all).

                                ************

And then of course let's not forget the final of tonight's US Open Tennis Final - two teenagers - Leylah Fernandez and Emma Raducanu - the up and coming generation of teenagers.   By the time we get up in the morning here in the UK one or the other of them will be the champion.    Wonder which one it will be?

The Last Night of the Proms has come round very quickly. I seem to be losing track of time.

RIP to all lost on 9/11. Covid (Delta variant) is predominant in the US. Schools are open except those with pandemic spread. Those not vaccinated are most impacted. Children 12 and up qualify. US FDA has approved Pfizer. A booster shot is in the works. Israel is administering booster shots and again are ahead of the curve. Life goes on and I'm happily busy on my property doing home and garden projects. Sunny and cool today. It's really lovely.

Only one thing to watch tonight and that's the tennis. I've never watched the Proms and have never wanted to - come on Emma!

I would love to watch Emma but don't have that channel.

Channel 4 have agreed last minute rights so the match is available on terrestrial "free" TV (or is your TV still out due to the mast fire?). Can you watch on computer?

The coverage starts at 8pm Weave. Try this link just after 8 - it should take you to live coverage.

9/11 - how could we forget such a truly terrible day? Hard to believe that it is 20 years since it happened.
Good Luck Emma, but whatever the outcome of the final match it is an amazing achievement.
As for Afghanistan - it doesn't bear thinking about on so many levels. So much distress.

Thank you for your remembrance of 9/11. Many people have different political opinions regarding that day. To me, this is not a day to remember the politics. It is a day to remember the people lost and the many heroes that day who gave their lives in trying to save others.

Thank you for the reminder of 9/11, and all those who perished...
The Guardian Online says Channel 4 struck a last minute deal to show Emma's match, starting at 9pm. Sorry I only just found out. It may have finished...or maybe you can catch the end!

Life always goes on, doesn't it... despite whatever happens in the world. I don't watch sports much but I remember my mom watching all sorts of sports on television. Enjoy! ~Andrea xoxoxo

Charlotte thank you for the information but sadly at the moment our transmitter
burnt down and I can only get all the BBC Channels through iplayer. I have just watched the News and see that Emma has taken the first set.

Reading through your responses thank you to those of you who also told me about Channel Four

I have just switched on and it seems from your comments that Emma has won - I shall now go and look at Breakfast tv for confiramation.

I haven't listened to the news for ages, but congratulations Emma if you have won. It has been a totally two sad days with the horror of 9/11 being remembered. In the Smithsonian Magazine there was an article of how 250,000 people were moved from the district by boat. All the ferries came together and moved them away from the smoke. Amidst the horror there were people working quietly to save others.

Oh no, not Breakfast tv again.

Emma did it! I don't know why we went into Afghanistan anymore. I think Usama Bin Laden could have been found eventually, without an invasion. With the invasion, it still took years.

Love,

Apologies for any spelling mistakes.. I do know how to spell confirmation. My eyesight is getting poor and I don'talways see them until it is too late

Rachel - still on the subject of eyesight - I have limited time that I am able to read. I like to do the Mind Games - that is why I buy the Times. I like the company that Book Club brings so I have at least one book I need to read. Therefore I get the majority of my news from tv and I like to get it early in the day - hence Breakfast tv.

Thanks for calling by everyone. You are always very welcome.
