Thank you

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on this topic.   I was so surprised by your answers because I expected everyone to say they thought asking Politicians such banal questions was ridiculous.   I intentionally put it the way I did so that I could say this.   Rishi Sunak obviously takes his job very seriously indeed - as I said yesterday - whether you agree with his politics or not is in this instance beside the point.   Also in my own case I find it very hard to answer this sort of question because, like some of you say, 'favourites' change from day to day.  Does it make any difference to how good an MP you are talking to when you know his preferences for what he does in his leisure time?

So as I promised I will tell you my answers but they will be what I feel at this moment - my answers might be totally different if you ask me tomorrow:

1.  Any travel book by Patrick Leigh Fermor.

2.  Tonight I would rather like to look at Hobemma's  "Avenue" - tomorrow it may well be anything by Matisse.

3.   "Ride On" sung by Christy Moore.

4.   "Recuerdos d'Alhambra by Terrega if I am in one mood.   Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis" if I am in another.

5.   After eighteen months without them (because of Covid) a really good plate of fish and chips.

6.   Don't get to the Cinema or Theatre much but do love Midsummer Night's Dream.

7.   "All Creatures Great and Small"  mainly because it is beautiful local scenery.

8.   Don't watch football so can't say.

9.   Chocolate one.

10. Quite partial to Lemon Meringue Pie.

I suppose what it really tells us is that sometimes journalists 'scrape the bottom of the barrel' when looking for something to write about.

I agree Pat, does it really matter what anyone's favourite book, painting etc is? Does it tell us anything about the person? I don't hink so. I suppose some expert would delve deep and come up with some answer as to why that person likes a particular thing.

I hope one of your dear friends will take you for a nice Sunday drive to enjoy a feed of fish and chips .. long overdue, I would say.

The same as most people, my so-colled favourites can change with my mood or the season and are of course influenced by many different factors. And also like many of your readers wrote yesterday, I am rarely interested in knowing someone else's favourites - unless the person in question is a close friend, a family member of my partner, and I am looking for a birthday present for them.

There are a few firm favourites I keep returning to, such as the Narnia books (I've loved them since I first read them as a little girl) or Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacher Man", and I don't believe I will ever have enough of chocolate and chocolaty puddings. My favourite pastimes - reading and walking - are probably not going to change anytime soon, either.

As for the fish & chips, I am with Anonymous in thinking that I am sure one of your friends would happily take you somewhere to enjoy it; doesn't have to be a Sunday when everyone else is out and about :-)

I don't understand why nobody has brought you fish and chips home. Normal thing to do, buy, take home and eat. Fish and chip shops have been open all through Covid.

I missed fish and chips as well, though we get them weekly here now. But it was a good game in nailing one's favourite, which will of course change over time.

Well done for nailing some favourites - I must be much too fickle!

My bargain pensioners Fish and Chips takeaway have been a staple all through the last 18 months, once a month at least.

I had never heard Ride On by Christy Moore, so listened on Youtube. What a lovely song...but how it made me cry!
Perhaps sometimes journalists get fed up with politicians who won't give a straight answer to the most innocuous question, ones that could only have one sensible answer, so resort to asking something really banal?

Whether they are lying or not, any politician these days who refuses to play the game as far as being asked such questions would not get very far. Loftiness and unapproachability are thankfully mostly in the past. I've even read that Jacob Rees-Mogg takes his children to the toyshop on Saturday mornings (he can obviously afford to treat them!). They need to be seen as men/women of the people.

We have a big yellow fish and chips van that comes round on a Thursday.

Thanks for your comments. I could have had local fish and chips delivered throughout the last eighteen months - I don't want that I want a really top class version. Our local chippy has been open throughut but it is never good and by the time I get it it is almost cold and has to be reheated.

All your comments have been most interesting. Thank you for them.
Charlotte - thank you for the tip - I shall go and listen on U Tube this instant.

I am glad we are all so different. I don't know what my choices would say about me as I have very eclectic tastes - muddlehead probably!
I don't think it is important to know what preferences our politicians have so long as they are honest men and women and committed to their job.

I belatedly added my choices to yesterday's post. SO many paintings to choose from though, amongst ones I love, but I am pretty firmly tied to the Pre-Raphaelites (I just LOVE the detail especially the botanical studies - when we went to Birmingham for the Pre-Raphaelite exhibition of drawings, we were bowled over. Gosh - that was 10 years ago now! My dad had a great love of the Impressionist painters, and did copies of some of their works, and left me with a lifelong interest in them. I don't do modern art - I like to be able to walk into a painting.

As for books - well, how to choose! I went for the one most revisited!

As for Politicians and their interests and tastes, I remain in ignorance, not being a political animal in the least. They are on a par with Calculus to me!!

I was watching a show about the making of the series, All Creatures Great and Small. I hadn't realized that the show is about your Yorkshire Dales so now I am even more excited to watch the next season and explore where you live!

I think the reason reporters ask off-topic, personal questions is to make the politicians, celebrities etc they are talking with seem more like just a regular person. It removes them from the rarified air of whatever area they are experts in and make them more interesting as a "person" apart from their niche in the general scheme of things.

I think silly questions put to politicians are a reflection of society today - low levels of expectation, education and culture and low standards perpetuated by the media.

I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.

I will always advice, that when you want to trade, you should seek the assistance of a well trained personnel. I've been trading with Robert Seaman and it would be selfish of me, if i don't recommend them. With their well guarded signals and forever active strategies i have been able to make over $11,200 usd weekly.
