Sport

  • Sport has been at the forefront of everything on the television for the last few weeks - Le Tour, Wimbledon, Football...........I have enjoyed some of it - Le Tour, which I have never watched before, has really grown on me and I have become really hooked on it, trying never to miss the round up at 7pm each evening at least.   Yesterday my friends P and D came over from Morecambe Bay for the day and together in the afternoon we watched the Ladies' Singles Tennis Final and I found that very exciting.   I think it needs to be watched with someone - watching it alone is not any good for me at any rate.   Today I had my friend and neighbour H round and we chatted all afternoon and when she had gone I switched on the television and the match was only just that moment over - it had lasted over three hours so obviously there had been quite a battle.   Tonight of course there is the Football Final - I could definitely not stand the strain of watching that.   But now maybe there will something else on as well as sport and that will almost make a welcome relief.
  • My week-end has been enjoyable but very busy with my dear friends coming.   They have not been for a long time because of Covid but the gap and now this week end and has made me realise that, sadly, my entertaining for the week-end days may be over.   A day is just about as long as I can manage before I am too tired to carry on.
  • It has been a dour sort of day here - thick dark clouds and the odd spot of rain - probably good for my newly planted plants who are having time to settle in in damp soil without a burning sun on them (I believe we are to expect that later in the week).   I am so relieved to have taken the decision to plant up my piece of garden that has MaresTail (thank you Derek for the encouragement).   From the patio (which is as high as I dare go now) I can't see any of the weed that my gardener misses so what the eye doesn't see etc.
  • I am off now to watch today's resume of Le Tour.   Back to normal tomorrow hopefully.

Just plod along Pat and you'll be alright.
We have a night's rain due in the next hour, which we could do without but with a hot weekend coming up perhaps it'll be necessary.
Going back to the Mares Tail, best you can do is to ask the gardener, every time he comes, to put out as much as he can and gradually weaken it.

I like the bullet points tonight Weave. Splendid touch.

We have noticed that the streets here are deserted this evening. Everyone must be indoors watching the match. I hope you have enjoyed your sporting week and tonight's Tour catch up.

I'm loving all the sport and still the Olympics to come in less than 2 weeks.

This has really been a summer of sports. I can't get your football game here but I'm following Rachel's blog to keep up. I'm cheering for you England!

All my neighbours have Italian flags out but I haven't heard any great cheering. No doubt I will hear the result soon enough!

There has been so much other sport, I missed the fact that the Olympics are upon us. Hope CV doesn't get out of control again, with all the mingling of fans and extra airline travel...
If you're still entertaining, you are doing well. One day of most visitors is enough!

It is so nice to be able to have people coming in for a proper visit, rather than chatting through the window. I am rather worried by the size of the crowd at Wembley this evening with no sign of any masks. I'm glad I wasn't there, and can't bear the strain of watching the game even on TV! Hope the news will be good in the morning.
Glad you have had some rain and have been able to do some entertaining. You have more stamina than you imagine.

Heather I am relieved by what you say - I feel exactly the same. I just switched on hoping it was over but no I think it has gone into extra time or something. Have come to go to bed.

Rachel Bullet points are accidental must have presed something but don't know what it was or how to get rid of them

Well, in the football, from half time onwards, England seemed to get worse rather than better and as we went into penalties at the end, the result seemed predictable. The choice of penalty takers did seem questionable.

The Olympics will be on TV before long so that will bring a great deal of sports watching for many people.

Love,

I always enjoyed watching sports on broadcast (antenna) television (not cable), especially when my children were small... because I never had to worry about inappropriate language or scenes or clothes or anything. That's why I don't watch any tv shows to this day... they all seem to be filth-ridden. But sports are always nice. I enjoy football in the winter, especially, and next is basketball. ~Andrea xoxoxo
