Bright(ish) and early. - again

Oh dear.   This hot weather (the same temperature here yesterday as it was in Cro's garden) is not altogther to my liking.   I can do little.   I seem to spend most of my day sitting in the cool of the sitting room with a cold glass of something, reading, doing the Mind Games, watching Escape to the Country (I have done) or even (dare I say) dozing.   I only really come alive during the evening when the sun begins to lose its strength and even that is not happening at the moment.   At least I am wearing a T shirt, which never happened last year.

My carer is now having Tuesdays off.   It has always been her day off but since coming to me last November because she lives near she has made the exception and come to me each morning at 7.30  for an hour.   Yesterday was the first day when she didn't come (apart from some Sundays and that too is going to become a regular thing).   It does me no harm at all, in fact it is good for me to take more responsibility but things do take me a long time to complete.   I was rather pleased with myself because I managed to do a load of washing and tumble dry it - she will come this morning expecting to put the washer on and I have done it.  Before you tell me off for tumble drying when it is such lovely weather - how I would love to dry the clothes outside in the fresh air - but my balance is not good enough to peg the clothes on the clothes line.

An early start again I see from the time on my computer - 6.27am - and a grey sky.   But another scorcher is forecast for today before the weather is set to break from the South tomorrow.   Then I suspect there will be high jinks up there in the sky!  A nice break yesterday afternoon when friends T and S called and we sat in the shade in the back garden and had a coffee and a chat - spent a lovely hour.   They are such kind friends.   And S did a little job for me, she dead-headed E A Bowles, my perennial wallflower - she lives high up on the rockery and I cannot any longer get up there to do such gardening jobs.   Now I know that within a fortnight she will be flowering again - so thank you S.

I'll be back later if anything exciting happens, in the meantime I shall put on my dressing gown, open up blinds and the front door and watch Breakfast until my carer comes - she will be doubly welcome today.   I do hope she realises just how much I appreciate her.

Priscilla and I walked round the estate early before the sun burned off the cloud and mist (now, a few hours later, it is a scorcher again.   )I always read the T M S in the Times and today an item made me smile so I thought I would share it with you.  Hugh Dennis, the actor, was thinking about the seven wonders of the world and how some of them at least were no longer to be considered as such.   He quoted The Great Pyramid of Egypt which is now just in any old suburb of Cairo.   Hugh  (the son of a Bishop) thought about what his wonders would be today.   His father preached once on Matthew 'Man shall not live by  alone' and he, a small boy at the time remembers thinking that man could if it was toast.   And I got to thinking what my seven wonders would be.   English Lit and Music being my subjects, all scientific and medical achievements have gone right over my head so all I am going to say is that for me all seven could be covered by the word Machinery.   I sit here typing - my dishes are being washed, my tumble drier is working, my clothes were washed yesterday, D came and mowed and strimmed my lawn, a machine is cuttting the silage in the field behind my house, Tesco will soon deliver my order.......my mother would not believe it all.   Oh and the richest man in the world went to the edge of space yesterday and parachuted back.   Tires me out thinking about it.

I can appreciate that you don't like this hot weather and you do the most sensible thing, but for me it's glorious. I don't ache, as I do most of the year and just generally feel so much fitter. Out on the reserve at 6.00 while it's cool for the dog, out on my push bike in the afternoon - love it but doubt that it'll last.

Your carer is a true gem, and I am sure she knows how much you appreciate her.
It is good that you can still do things for yourself, and never mind how long they take - nobody is rushing you, is there.
Like Derek, I feel so much better and have more energy when it is warmer - been out for a sunset walk until 9:45 pm last night, when it started to get dark. At the moment, because of my recently operated eyes I need to be careful with the sun, but I do enjoy the warmth!

We are under the Extreme Heat Weather Warning here in West Wales, along with the West Country and much of the south of England. Trying to create through-draughts in the house is hard when there's no wind, so it's grin and bear it for a few more days!

Makes me smile that nowadays it's felt necessary to warn us that it's gonna be hot, stepping out of the door tells us that - the government seems to be getting carried away with telling us what to do.

We don't seem to have the extreme heat that other places have - which is unusual but I'm loving the sunshine and being free to do as little or as much as I want.

I'm sure your carer knows how much you appreciate her - you really struck gold there.

Enjoy your day - and stay nice and cool

Yesterday the heat in my kitchen was unbearable. Today I have a fan on in there and closed the vertical blinds to keep out the sun. I have kept my bedroom curtains closed, also curtains closed in living room and a fan on. Last night as I was going to bed I noticed the temperature in living room was 27.5. Try to keep cool and drink lots of fluid and don't worry about any little jobs around the house, they will still be there tomorrow.

Yesterday, Tim and I were walking along and he complained about the terrible humidity. I hadn't even noticed. I was quite comfortable.

We got another big thunderstorm. I was very excited. After two days without rain, I was afraid we were moving into a drought situation.

You're being very sensible about what you can do and what you can't do.

Yesterday it was 25C here. Indoors is cool so if necessary I sit indoors. I love the good weather, the bursts of it are short and then it will be back to cooler. This summer will be like that. If you are hot and uncomfortable leave your bra off and put on a pair of shorts and put your feet up. Nobody is going to judge what you look like in hot weather esp. in your own home.

The air was perfect at 6am this morning. Glad I woke early and was able to get my shopping done and home again by 9.30. I find the hot weather exhausting but I know others love it. I am fortunate in the flat I bought as it only has the sun on my windows during the morning. By 2pm it is passing off my windows and moves along the front of the building. Well done for getting your laundry done. I never hang mine outside as there is quite a long walk, then down in the lift to get to the washing lines. I find it dries very well indoors even in the winter, thank goodness.

I've just noticed that we now have a Met. Office Yellow Warning telling us that it could rain in the south this weekend - what's next a warning telling us it might be cloudy - it's all getting ridiculous.

Mrs Eejit loves, Escape to the country, too! In fact we'd like to do just that. Live in isolation far from the madding crowd!

I love your perennial wallflowers name - wondered what the E A stood for. Elinor Ann Bowles would be good. I'll Google it and see what it really is - I think the heat is addling my brain!!!

Oh no - it's a man - Edward Augustus Bowles apparently !

For some silly reason I decided to wash the car this afternoon. It was 32 C, and I'm now suffering.

Before we know it the sun will be gone and the rain returned. I am trying to enjoy it - albeit going slowly.

Your mother would believe the grocery delivery. We used to get this in the 1950s, plus the Corona lorry.

Reaching up to peg clothes wouldn't work for me, either. I was just thinking of how much there was to hang for six people plus linens, when I was a girl. But, I just did it, as did everyone else, because clothes don't hang themselves, as mom would have said.

Thank you for bringing up the Seven Wonders of the World. I have not thought about them for quite a while and there are indeed all new Seven Wonders now. It makes me wonder what they will be in the future.

Ah, the Corona lorry and my favourite drink, the Dandelion and Burdock lemonade.
