.Storm?

As I write this black clouds gather overhead in an ominous fashion, huge spots of rain fall on the patio and thunder rumbles fairly close at hand.   S who lives next door but one has just come to see if he can put any surplus greenery into my green bin for morning - I have said yes of course.   I do so hope we get a proper storm with a good drop of rain as anyone who gardens here is desperate for some of the wet stuff (I know most farmers round here have cut their losses and got in their silage as it had stopped growing and was 'going backwards''.)

I have had a most frustrating day today.   We all have days like this I know but it doesn't make it any less annoying.   My carer no longer comes on Tuesdays - it doesn't do me any harm to care for myself now and again.   I got up at my usual time, had my breakfast, watched a bit of the Olympics, got washed and dressed and did the basics.   Everything takes me so long.  (maybe having to do things for myself on Tuesdays will give me the practice which will speed me up a bit).

My carer had put the 'white' washing in the washer to do in the morning so I thought I would surprise her by switching the washer on and doing one lot myself.   While it was doing I thought I would eat my lunch which she had left in the fridge ready to microwave (roast beef with all the trimmings including Yorkshire pudding) and it was delicious.   Tidying round after that I overbalanced, grabbed at my trolley, missed and fell over on the carpet.   Luckily, although shaken I didn't hurt myself but couldn't get up, so had to ring my son who had to come round and heave me to my feet.   A cup of tea and a sit down later and I was quite recovered although a bit shaken.

Then my son came round again to put a new ink cartridge into my new printer for me but after an hour of trying he gave up - his wife is an invalid and can only be left for a limited time.   So I am now marooned here without a working printer and shall now have to get in touch with friend S to see if she can help in any way (if you are reading this S - if you have time to spare some time soon could you please have a look at it for me).

Well it is raining.   It is tea time and I shall go and find something for my tea.   At present it is not a formidable lot of rain falling but at least it is wet.

I hope you are okay Pat after your fall, it must have shaken you. I was out with Rick this morning when I heard the rumble of thunder and the first big drops of rain started to fall. We did a fast trot home (I can't run!) and managed to get indoors just seconds before the storm hit.

Oh geez...the fall is a terrible confidence shaker, esp after one bad fall already. Sounds like a good idea to sit down with a good book for a while.

Thanks to you all - I am fine now although frustrated because something or somebody has allowed gremlins into my computer. First my bookmarks all disappeared and now, trying to order my prescriptions on line from my Medical Practice - something I have done ever since the system was set up years ago - the site tells me my user name and password are wrong and will not be accepted. Frustrating to say the least.

You are having one of those days where a lot is going wrong! Hope you get the computer straightened out! Glad you were not hurt in your fall. Take care!

Thank goodness you are not injured again.

Hate computer glitches - hope all is sorted soon

Sometimes I think life would be much improved if we could just go back to bed then start the day again. Glad you are OK, that is the main thing.

Oh my goodness, I'm hoping you won't be sore tomorrow, from your fall today. Don't they say you're always sore the next day? At least nothing is broken. Please take good care. Perhaps some Tylenol before bed will help assure an easier "get up" in the morning. Blessings~ Andrea xoxoxo

Sorry to read about your fall! I know what that's about. I fell on my front porch & had to call the Fire Department to come & get me up. They did it in 2 seconds!! Nice BIG Boys. Weaver, turn off your computer & let it sit for 15 minutes. Then restart it. Most of the time the darn thing can reset itself & everything is back in place.

Hope all is well without lasting effects - either you or your computer.

I hate to hear that you had a fall! Thank goodness you didn't break anything. Sorry to hear about the gremlins getting to your computer. I think that happens to all of us at times. If you have not already done so, you might try turning the computer off, waiting a few minutes and then turning it back on. That sometimes helps me. Take good care!

So pleased you didn't do any damage when you fell. It is still not a nice experience. Also pleased you have had some rain for the garden. Still comfortably warm down here and some nice heavy showers today. In spite of the rain to refresh us, I still find it 'sleepy' weather. Shopping tomorrow for me, so I hope I don't get wet.

So sorry to hear that your day went so badly! Hope that everything will be better tomorrow and you don't have any bruises after your tumble.

Accidents happen to us all and I'm glad you are okay. Computers - one day they are fine and the next they can go off. Frustrating. A Restart, as suggested above, might sort things. Otherwise your local expert will make things right. The rain is always welcome and I hope you got a good soaking for the garden.

Thank goodness you are OK, and your son is close enough to pop round. I'm quite sure they make printers with a microchip that makes them break down just after the warranty runs out. Mine will only work in black and white, despite the new cartridges I put in...very annoying!

Oh heavens Weave - I wish I lived closer to you, then I could pop round and do these little things for you. You mean so much to all of us and I know that your readers the world over wish they lived nearer too. Please take good care of yourself and thank you so much for doing a post for me - I hope it will inspire others. XXX

Charlotte this is a new Canon printer and it is the first time I have had to insert a new cartridge/ I never had a problem with the old printer but if I have a shaky day - and I have had today after my fall - I can easily press the wrong button and everything goes haywire.

Bless you all. Off to bed now. Tomorrow is another day.

That sounds like a difficult day. I sure hope tomorrow goes better!

Definitely a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for you. It's good to hear that you came out of the fall all in one piece. Hoping your tomorrow is extra special good to make up for today.

You stopped my heart, falling over. I don't know what to say; I'm terrified of doing the same.

Now I'm really curious about the washing. You put the washing in the rising action and then forgot about it.

Our forecast said 'No Rain' for yesterday, then just as I'd finished cooking on the BBQ, it really poured. There's a beautiful aroma outside this morning.

Oh dear, that fall and not being able to get up on your own must have been quite frightening!
I very much hope that by the time you read this, you have had a good night's sleep and are feeling much better today.

Up bright and early this morning - no noticeable aches and pains so far. The patio is wet so there has obviously been more rain overnight although no raindrops on the washing line so it must have been a while ago. Nice to have commiserations on the fall from you all - I will try hard to stay upright today.

It's good to hear you're OK. Take things easy and rest up for a while. X

I hope you have no ill effects from your fall. One thing that has hit home for me from this post is how many friends you have. You often write about your friends.
It made me think about my own situation, after being the sole carer for my husband for many years I'm now alone and find myself without any friends. He couldn't be left alone and he didn't like anyone coming in to the house so anyone I knew gradually dwindled away over the years. Then it was Covid and I had to shield for a year. I realise how alone I am but don't know what to do about it, there are no friendship groups in my area and I can only travel in my local area. I envy you your network of friends with always someone to call on. My own age and health mean I don't get out much and of course we still have the Covid risk anyway. I often find myself sitting and gazing vacantly. I did go in a local café for my lunch one day (not something I can do often due to financial restrictions) but found I was the only person alone and hearing others laugh and chatter made me feel even more alone. It's good that you have so many friends, even though your mobility has been restricted you're not alone or lonely.

Oh dear - that must have shaken you up good and proper but glad to hear there were no after effects. As Debby I think it was said, it will have shaken your confidence though.

Thank heavens your son lives nearby and got you up and will also be able to sort out your computer problems.

I hope you're feeling OK this morning and haven't stiffened up too much overnight. You'll know by now whether you had your storm or not. If we'd had all the rain forecast in the last few days I'd be sitting on my roof awaiting the rescue helicopter by now.

Glad you got up this morning feeling better, it is lucky your son lives near. As for printers expensive (not the printer the cartridges) pieces of work.

Jane - I am so sorry for your plight. I really don't know what to suggest - some kind of group you could join would be a start - a church group or a W I group or maybe some kind of class this coming winter. Rachel gets about locally and jois in many group activities as does John - choirs, classes and such like. One thing I do know from my own experience is that people will not come to you - you have to get out, however locally, to meet them. Hope things improve for you.

Sorry to hear about your fall and hope you are feeling better. Falls seem to be what we all dread.
I don't know about other places, but here we have 'Strength for Life" classes for seniors over 60, a Government initiative at minimal cost per class. With a doctors referral, everyone is individually further assessed and put on a program to suit, and balance is a big focus. One of my exercises is to push myself up from the floor using a chair for support, as I too, dread not being able to get up and have no 'oomph' to do so.
I feel for Jane. It is part of the program that participants stay if possible for coffee and cake afterwards and has been a godsend for many of us. Cleanliness and sterilising the equipment is strictly enforced. South Australia has today just emerged from a 7 day total lockdown with no cases in the state now, but It is recognised that social isolation is difficult for many elderly on their own..however, like Jane I remember moving to another state with my husband's work and having the same cafe experience..not pleasant.
