Busy Day

What a busy day I have had and with the high humidity here today the combination has made me very tired indeed.   It is days like this which make me realise that I am not so much a Spring Chicken as an Old Boiler.

This morning was Book Group and they have kindly agreed to meet at my house now so that I can get there.   Many step entrances to houses totally defeat me these days.  There are eight in the Group but for various reasons only three were able to meet today but we had a super meeting - lots discussed and in depth too.   The book was Marcel Pagnol's 'My Father's Glory and my Mother's castle'.   It is a Memoir and is, without a doubt, one of the most beautifully written books I have read in a long time.   Do read it if you get a chance - it is not easy to get hold of a copy.

We had an hour's rain this morning, which was nowhere near enough but was more than welcome.

I had lunch and then decided I really must at least walk round the block.   I should have had more sense with the degree of humidity.   I stopped to speak to N, who lives close be, and we chatted for maybe ten minutes, after which I found it totally impossible to get going again - I had seized up!  I struggled round the block with difficulty and arrived home to find my gardener there mowing the lawn.   All I needed was a sit down and a cup of tea and maybe an hour's sleep before the Zoom with friend's W, P and D at 5pm.

They were a bit late arriving as their shopping trip overran but then we had a happy forty minutes chat.   Then a sandwich and another cup of tea and now, here I am at almost 7.30.   The lawn is mowed, the gardener gave my new plants another water so I am a bit happier about them now.

All I have to face now is to empty the dishwasher and then sit down for the evening.   Visitors for the day tomorrow but family so no special effort.   See you then....

The dishwasher can be emptied in the morning. I only empty mine as and when I need the stuff or want to refill it and need space in it. Relax, be a bit untidy, slovenly, messy for a change. It is not a sin.

Absolutely love Marcel Pagnol - the film of Le Chateau de ma mere (My mother's castle) is brilliant if you ever get a chance to watch it.

I'm surprised that you have enough to dish-wash, living on your own. I haven't used my dish washer for ten years, much preferring to to do the washing up the old fashioned way - in the sink.

What a busy day you had but it does sound like you enjoyed yourself and now you will sleep well tonight! I'm with Rachel - I would unload the dishwasher in the morning! Sweet dreams!

Thank you for the book suggestion. I have just found it and ordered it. I am looking forward to it.

I recently read Marcel Pagnol's book and thoroughly enjoyed it. How nice that your Book Group will be meeting at your house now; no more problems with steps.
Very humid here too. I took my mask off for the last few yards home this morning as I felt in need of fresh air.
Glad your plants had an extra drink, and enjoy your visitors tomorrow.

Rachel I had a load of stuff waiating to go in it from the Book Group. As to being untidy and messy - I just can't do it.

Derek I only put my dishwasher on about two to three times a week but always have plenty to fill it.__

This steamy hot weather is enough to make a spring chicken feel like an old boiler - you'll probably feel a lot better when it cools down a bit and the humidity drops...I know I will!

I saw the film of Pagnol's books many years ago, and the story was enchanting.
It is hot and steamy here, nearly 100F. I'm staying indoors with the fan and the air conditioning.

Cheers,

You had a lovely day - although I do sympathize about the weather. It has been over 30C here for a few days now with high humidity and it just drains me. I walked with a friend early this morning while there was still a bit of a breeze but by about 11am it is just too hot!

How nice of your book club friends to meet at your house - I must see if that book is available at the library.

Take care.

I ran the dishwasher tonight and then wondered if I'd put in soap. I won't look until tomorrow!

Hot humid weather affects me more now. Just tires me out. I don't like my home messy or especially the kitchen. The messy the house the more cluttered my mind.
Rest well tonight.

It has not been all that warm here, but humid, too, so I know what you mean about tiring easier than you normally would do on your walks.
We had solid grey clouds all day, but it took until about 9:00 in the evening before the rain that had been threatening all day finally fell, and boy did it fall! It was the kind of torrential rain that you'd expect in a tropical location, and there was some flooding in places near the river.
Apparently, a man drowned in his basement flat - the water came so quickly he didn't make it out in time.

I don't enjoy high humidity either - it does nothing for my breathing, put it that way! It is so draining too. You certainly made a bad move by standing to chat if everything seized up. At least you passed the time of day with N, the Book Group, friends on Zoom and the gardener so I imagine you slept well last night :)

The Met Office was right about pollen being low and I think I got away with a few hours' gardening.

My back doesn’t like the emptying dishwasher job. I bring a chair over and sit down to do it, putting everything onto the kitchen table. Then putting stuff away later in cupboards is an easier job.

Never use the dishwasher, it sits behind its cupboard door sulking I suppose. Ida the washing machine has been going for about 20 years, a record for a washing machine. Don't do so much is my answer when the weather gets sticky.

When you said you must empty the dishwasher I assumed you had already put in and washed your visitors cups and were up to date. My mistake. You didn't mention refilling it.
