Sunday bright and early

Well not so bright now - and I just heard the weather man say that there are so many 'layers of cloud' today that it is unlikely we will see the sun.   In spite of the promise of quite a warm day it seemed to have missed here and my morning walk was very chilly.   I had a nice long chat to my daughter-in-law about a present for her birthday this week - then I set off on my walk without my hearing aid in (I had taken it out to use the telephone).   The first person I saw was D, who I have not seen for literally years - we chatted and it was a strain hearing him.    He went off on his walk and a couple of minutes later I  stopped to chat to P who was hoeing her front garden.   She has a bed of pansies - they have really done superbly this year.  I have pansies in tubs either side of my front door and they are a sight for sore eyes.   So were P's no single plant the same colour as any other.

We were debating just how many people on our road are retired and live alone - having been widowed.   And how we look out for one another and how good it ia.   Opposite her lives a gentleman of 103 with his partner, who is in her early eighties.   It seems that we all take an interest in what is going on - and how good that is.   How lucky we are.   And how good it is to have Lifeline - I have a button on a bracelet at my wrist and I can press that at any hour of the day or night to summon help.   I did indeed do just that in October when I fell and broke my hip and the ambulance was here within ten minutes.   All the NHS services, plus Lifeline, plus my Carer and I feel so very well looked-after.

My son has just called with three parcels to be collected by the Post Office tomorrow and we stood talking on the doorstep for ten minutes (he is not in my Bubble - that 'honour' goes to my carer-).  That time let the chilly air into the hall and bliss - the central heating has kicked in and going back into the computer room I was met by a wall of warm air.   Spring is by no means here yet - keep your winter woollies on folks.

Chilly and rainy here this Mother's Day morning in S. Colorado! Just another quiet day around here!

I'd have been indoors like a shot sitting with my mum.

You are indeed well cared for and live within a lovely community.
Cool wet and windy over here today. Not long until summer!?

I think Rachel's got it dead right, can't believe people are still doing all that social distancing/bubble stuff now.
Very warm and sunny day here, seafront was very busy with some people in swimming. CH is off for the summer now.

Weaver - According to the Government website you can still form a bubble with another household even if you have a carer.

"You can form a support bubble with another household of any size if:

You live by yourself – even if carers visit you to provide support"

Here's a link to the page https://www.gov.uk/guidance/making-a-support-bubble-with-another-household

Yep! It's 39*F here in Indiana... almost snow weather. But that's ok, it's spring all the same, with summer not too far away. And you are correct to have your son stay outside! If he is "out in the world" he can be carrying the virus. No sense to take chances. Have a wonderful "cared for" day. ~Andrea xoxo

80s (F) and sunny here this Mother's Day in California. My sons will be here today. All of us fully vaccinated. They'll join us for road trip next month to see my 88 yr. old mother in Arkansas; I last saw her 2 yrs. ago on Mother's Day. I thought the point of getting vaccinated was to safely be around people again? Return to more ordinary lives? Even share a hug with loved ones? Hope it warms up for you soon, Pat, and that you can soon visit with friends and family in person.

EM Griffith - here we have been told still to keep separate apart from our one 'bubble'
family - no-one else comes into our homes. The only person who comes into my home is my carer and she comes every morning still in full PPE and she too has been vaccinated.

Liz - yes I did know rhat but my son's wife is a severe invalid and they don't wish to even risk that.
Rachel - as you will read above - my son's wife is a severe invalid and during the whole of lock down he has been in contact physically with no-one but her. He comes over frequently and we chat - he on the lawn and me in the doorway. He rings me nightly. They don't have their second jab until next Monday so for all our sakes we are happy to stay with things as they are.

We have been a bit more fortunate with sunshine earlier but then the rain returned. It has been less chilly today but my woollies are definitely near to hand.
I wear my alarm button as a pendant. I am glad to have it as my children don't have to worry about me, knowing that I have round the clock emergency cover.
My son is in my bubble and came for a chat and cuppa this afternoon. Such a treat.

Yesterday early evening, the weather turned really warm all of a sudden, making us walk up the hill behind the village to a favourite bench of us, watch the sunset and enjoy a glass or three of rosé wine. This morning was so warm already that we had coffee on the balcony formthe first time this year, and tonight the first BBQ of this year. It was 29C and lovely - but we know it won‘t last, rain and a drop in temperature by about 10 degrees is forecast for tomorrow.

I was lucky to have a small group of 9 over for brunch. Most fully vaccinated, some partly vaccinated, wearing masks, and 2 children. My DIL is a doctor and so we follow her advice as to wearing masks or not. It was pleasant to visit and play with the little ones and now I have the afternoon to relax and read!
Glad you and your son are being careful!

I just gave in and put my central heating on (quarter past 9). We had lovely warm sunshine this morning, so I'm not really hardy! Did lots of minor jobs I've been putting off, today, and the house looks better for it.

At least you managed to liven up your Sunday a bit. Cold here too, and windy.

I am socially distancing and mask wearing and will continue to do so - we are by no means out of the woods yet as no-one knows exactly how long the vaccine will work for or if it is protective against some of the more virulent strains. If the government have already ordered in booster vaccines for the Autumn that should tell people something about its effectiveness long term.
We had sunshine all afternoon here in Scotland.

It snowed here today. Aaaaaannnnd we lost power. Happy mother's day, Pat!

Not warm here, either, another hundred miles west of Debby. We need spring, not snow.

It was warm and very windy here yesterday, then at night there was a terrific storm which I slept though. I came down this morning to find poo and pee all over the Kitchen floor; poor Billy must have been petrified.

Debby - thank you but we had our Mother's Day some time ago.

Thanks everyone for dropping by.
