Frustration has set in.

Something very frustrating is happening to my laptop today and it is driving me crazy.   Not sure what is causing it but it is one of the days when my tremor is very bad for some reason and that may well have a bearing on the fact that the screen will not stay still as I type.  In addition, trying to add items to my Tesco order for next week is impossible because although I have booked a slot the site will not let me get beyond 'book a Slot' to arrive at confirm the payment.   I am hoping that later in the day, when he has finished teaching on line, my son may be able to help me to adjust things.   I'll be back later, after 'Escape to the Country', which starts in six minutes - I am hoping that watching that helps my equilibrium.

Properties in Cambridgeshire today - a county I know only slightly - we had a quick look around Ely Cathedral (which I thought was in Rutland but then wondered whether Rutland still existed these days - no doubt somebody will enlighten me) and three properties.   Mostly the places we look round are just too big for me to contemplate - it is rarely usual for me to see anywhere I fancy.   Maybe this is because I am happy ..and content where I am.   But both yesterday and today the people looking round used the word 'Wow' so many times that I got tired and eventually switched off.   I am never really interested in the property but moreso in the countryside and this was no exception today in Cambridgeshire.   But also these days I bear the prospect of flooding in mind.

Well Wednesday evening is here again and time for the Great British Sewing Bee.   I am enjoying this programme and tonight is all about garments influenced by another part of the world.   I wonder what will surface .

It is very cold here today, although so far it is dry and sunny too.    Certainly it is no time for thinking of casting a clout - winter woollies are still the order of the day.   Until tomorrow friends.....

Wow!! This is really amazing!!!

Yes, Rutland still exists. My niece lives there. Tut tut not knowing Ely is in Cambs.

I caught the property bug early, but dislike ultra-modern houses with all mod-cons. My ex-husband nearly bought a house backing on to a river when he moved to Cambridgeshire, until someone he worked with told him about the flooding risk.

Been quite warm, dry and sunny here until 5.00 and now we're having a thunder storm.

The first course of action with computers is always to close everything down, switch off, wait a few minutes before turning it on and logging it back on.
It sorts out many small issues caused by files/programs not loading quite correctly. Hope your son could help.
Ely hadn’t moved to Rutland last time I looked!

Computer problems are irksome. Hopefully your son will resolve the issue. Could he set your computer to optionally take voice commands? Living by the water is great. Flooding problems are horrendous and not something I would buy into. Houses on some Massachusetts and New York coastlines are being swept in to the ocean during storms. My neighbor has a home on Long Island sound with 360 degree ocean views. It is built on a sandbar and floods regularly. I hear the flooding stories!

I hope that your son is able to help with your laptop problem. In my working life, one of my roles involved talking people through IT software issues, which was quite difficult when doing this remotely over the telephone as you cannot see what they see and unless you ask the right questions you can't always work out what the problem is.
Sewing Bee is one of the few TV programmes I can watch these days as I rely on subtitles and it is easier to follow what is going on with this one. I enjoy seeing what they create.

I hope your son was able to sort out whatever was wrong with your computer - we can not have you NOT blogging, can we!
There are some older episodes of Escape to the Country set in Yorkshire that I have watched on youtube a few years ago, I enjoyed those very much for what they showed of Yorkshire but can not remember much about the properties - only that the people usually did not go for the one I would have chosen.

I'm holding off watching the Sewing Bee until my daughter, Kat, gets home on leave from Cyprus at the end of the month so we can watch it together.

I hope your son was able to fix things with your computer. it's always such a. bummer when the laptop starts misbehaving. It's good that you have someone who can help.
Take care there!

Escape to the Country has long been one of my favourite programmes (I'm nosy and like to see other houses). Some people are incredibly fussy and narrow-minded when it comes to houses, and won't compromise at all. Some really don't seem to know what they want. I've seen quite a few houses we wouldn't have minded buying (money permitting) - we like anything with character and generous rooms.

Hope your son was able to sort the computer out for you to get your Tesco order done in time. I have to call in Tam when I am having problems but at least she's under the same roof.

We have been watching old "Time Team" episodes - got started because there was one set near here (east coast US) that we could actually follow, and now we dip into one when we are about to go to sleep (not to be mean, but if you not much about British geography and history they are pretty lulling). We'll have to look out for "Escape to the Country".

And problems ordering groceries are so frustrating - the site we use is really counterintuitive so you pretty much have to remember all of the numerous steps in order to get to finally order. And that's not my gift so my sympathies!

I'm definitely not casting any clouts, yet! So far, my heating bill looks like being higher in May than it was in March.
I love Escape to the Country too, but wish they would show more people wanting smaller houses. There was one when a young couple living in a one bedroom flat in London, with their two children, decided to move to Yorkshire, to give the children a better quality of life. ETtC found them 3 quirky small houses, which they were over the moon with - it was really lovely to watch.

With regard to my Tesco problem I switched off, left it for a while, switched on and it worked perfecly - obviously it was something I had done - probably pressed the wrong button.

Computer problems are so very frustrating to me mostly because I have no confidence in my ability to solve them. I feel as if I am in a real life escape to the country. My daughter and son in law are looking for their first home. I am enjoying tagging along...via the internet of course.

Casting a clout - nice expression; I shall remember that.

I hope your computer problems are sorted out. They are wonderful when they behave themselves - a bit like dogs!
We have had heavy showers with some hail and I am glad I knitted a couple of really warm jumpers last winter. Won't it be lovely to have to complain about the heat?!

Bike Shed - A Lincolnshire saying - N'er cast a clout 'til May be out - there is always an argument as to whether this means the May (Hawthorne) blossom or the Month of May.

As usual - thanks so much for your lasting support

But what is a clout? From this ignorant Aussie!!

It is too darn cold here, Weaver. The heat is back on.

Ely is officially 'The Isle of Ely', but it's still in Cambs. I was at school there, and spent time in the wonderful cathedral every day for four years (apart from holidays).

Rachel Phillips said...

I would dispute your claim that ne'er cast a clout 'til May is out being a Lincolnshire saying. I was brought up with it in a different county and recognise it as an English proverb.

the veg artist said...

I grew up with the saying in West Wales. Can we just say that it's a country saying?

The Weaver of Grass said...

Veg artist - you are quite right - this morning as I closed the garage door a lady with a dog walked past and she said the same and she was Welsh - so I think it is a saying from everywhere. Then I read your reply Rachel - I think you are right - it is a proverb.
Sparkling Merlot - a clout is a layer of clothing (most often for me it is my vest!!

Thanks for all the info from you all about Ely . Dare I say that for something to do in later life I took O Level Geography I am ashamed to admit it.

I 'casted a lot of clouts' ... and then quickly put them all back on again!!

Yes, turning your computer off, going for a coffee and then coming back ten minutes later to a fresh computer screen and a fresh you is always a good idea. My Mum is having lots of struggles with her old computer at the moment, she is still operating on Windows 8 which is pretty obsolete now. Once we move and we are able to visit her again, we are going to buy a new computer for the business and let her have our old one then she will be much more up to date and at least on the same system as us.

No clouts are being cast by me yet as although it's so often sunny at the moment there's a bloomin' chilly wind blowing !

I always say that if there's sunshine I can take any temperature... even cold ones. But it's cold AND rainy here in Indiana today so I'm out of luck. Ooooh, computer issues!! I have absolutely no patience whatsoever. Good luck with yours. ~Andrea xoxo
