Sunshine at last

Yes - the sun is shining and there is but a small breeze blowing.   Of course that doesn't tell me the temperature when viewed from inside the room - but I shall dip my foot in the water later this morning with Priscilla and find out.   Meanwhile Monday is always my favourite day for The Times Mind Games and I sit an hour after J has brought me my breakfast and go through them all.   Now, at almost half past ten here I am with a bright and early post.

I have already had one smile this morning.   I see from The Times Obituaries - I always read them as they are so well written. - that Murray Walker, the Formula One Commentator, has died this week at the ripe old age of  97.   It seems no time at all since he was commentating but I read that he retired at the age of 89 after breaking his pelvis on a river cruise.   He fell down steps on the boat.   Then in the same year he was diagnosed with lymphoma.   But his Obit tells how he continued to watch the sport whenever he was well enough.   What made me laugh was in the Obit, reading about his absolutely unique style the Times tells of one of his best Murrayisms, when he said 'The Williams car is absolutely unique except for the one behind which is identical'.   Good old Murray - they don't make them like that any more.

Other happenings at this time in the morning?   Well I am finding the book Sue from the Isle of Man recommended 'A Bike Ride' very readable - if you like travel books do give it a whirl if you haven't already read it.   It has been written for almost thirty years but is very enjoyable - one of those books where you are with the author every bit of the way.

How Springlike is the weather in your neck of the woods?   It is reasonably dry here - just the odd heavy shower - but by no means Spring-like temperature yet. This time of the year don't we all long for a warm spell, especially this year when we have all been incarcerated for almost a whole year.

The paper today, of course, is now full of the Police  action at the vigil for Sarah Everard.   How sad it was that it all got out of hand.   With hindsight I do wonder whether it might have been better to ask all women to take part by putting a candle in our windows at a certain time.   I would certainly have liked to pay my peaceful respects in this absolutely terrible tragedy - and I still would - but it needs to be a peaceful, quiet and thoughtful caring time if only for the sake of Sarah's parents.   One can't begin to imagine what they must .be going through.   It is to be hoped that it might be the start of a gigantic effort to somehow make our streets safer for women but just for now I think Sarah's family might prefer peace in order to grieve for a while.

Well dear friends, outside calls while the sun is shining and hopefully I shall return with an appetite for my lunch of roast chicken and ham with cauliflower cheese, carrots, sprouts, Yorkshire pudding and roast and mashed potatoes - all sitting in the microwave.   All I need to do is push the button .   Thank you J - worth your weight in gold.

Lucky you with the weather, down here we are getting heavy showers interspersed with brief sunshine and the temperature is none too warm and due to get colder the longer the week goes on. Winter seems to be hanging on this year.
You seem to be getting progressively more active, good for you.

Beautiful, early spring weather here. Crocuses and snowdrops blooming everywhere and such a delight to look upon.

By now I guess you have had your walk, and I hope it was less of a struggle today.
Your lunch sounds delicious as always! Is it my impression or is there some kind of meat every day? I like meat (very much, actually), but I usually only eat it on weekends or occasionally when I am at my parents' for lunch, and must admit I don't miss it on the days I'm not having any. Not wanting to tell you what to eat - by no means! - just being curious.
It is winterly cold here again, we had sleet and snow and rain already today, and a very daring ray of sunshine poked through the clouds at one point for a few seconds.

Lovely and spring like in Devon this morning. I went for a long walk around my village after dropping youngest Daughter at school and have a couple of loads of washing out on the line. When the suns out, even if cool temperature wise, it does lift your spirits. I hope you enjoy your walk.

It is a beautiful crisp, sunny spring morning here. Our daffodils are just coming out and the rain has temporarily stopped.
By golly, your lunch sounds like it should sustain you for the rest of the week!

I hope your walk is a great success! Here on the east coast of the US we had spring over the weekend, warm sun, lots of bulbs opening their flowers, blue blue skies; today is well below freezing so the blue sky and sun are best from inside, so far. Perhaps by mid day it will be warmer outside.

Glad you share your lunch menus, they all sound so tasty and healthy!

Re: pushing the button on the microwave - Poppty Ping is the colloquial name for microwave here in wales. Always makes me smile. I too enjoy doing the Times games and quiz - only 7 out of 15 right today - but I solved the Cryptic Quintagram straight off - go me, as the youngsters would say!!!

Good enough weather here to apply moss treatment to our small front lawn (I understand the environmental concerns and don't use it on the back lawn). Then it rained.

How wonderful for you to have a sunny day! I hope you enjoyed your walk. Your meal in the microwave sounds absolutely delicious. Here in the middle of the U.S. we have had several days of rain and it is still cloudy with sprinkles today. We've had some slight hints of coming Spring but it is far too early for flowers. I do hear the birds singing much more and I so love that! Enjoy your evening my friend!

Well here in Ohio USA we have had a few warm days (upper 60's). Trees are budding out and some have a tinge of green, daffodils are getting ready to bloom. Some crocus and snow drops are blooming. It is a grey day today only in the 40's and rain predicted. Good day to make a soup. Weather to be back in the 60's near weeks end. My grandson and his family who live outside Denver, Colorado had 2 feet of snow. They can keep it. :) So sorry about the young lady in your country being murdered. Prayers for her family. Be safe on your walk with Pricilla.

It must be spring today as the sun was shining and the groundsman gave the grass outside my flat it's first cut of the year. However, I am under no illusion and it might be winter again next week.
The news is so distressing on many counts and some of it makes me feel angry and helpless.
I think your carer must have some qualification in cuisine - your meals sound delicious.
Hope you have another lovely day tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your comments. My carer has no qualifications in cuisine but is a farmer's daughter so has been brought up to cook. Good plain cooking I would say and I am getting used to never having to bother for myself.
Tasker I expect to see my gsrdener arrive any day with moss reatment for my lawn - it certainy needs it.
Bike shed - I enjoy the codeword and the number puzzles best of all.

Thanks everyone for dropping by.

Murray will be much missed. I'd been only thinking about him a couple of hours before I read the news. Prescient.
